Innovative Business Our winner has set its sights up in the sky, By setting up classes for people that fly. So that Zephyrhills kids will know what to do, From flying a plane to turning a screw. Making fliers and fixers of Zephyrhills natives, Is a concept that we all find quite innovative. So for thinking that’s out of the box now let’s see, We present this year’s trophy to PHSC.
Economic Development Champion Now here’s to a man with an eye on the plan, For the places we’ll go, how to get there, and when Using words like work force, infrastructure and sector, And talk of site studies and interconnectors. In setting the stage for the new event venue, He’s helping add more to the Zephyrhills menu. Zephyrhills is clearly putting its stamp, On Paul Correia, economic development champ.
Leadership in Government The people need leaders to help shoulder the load, Of having clean water or building new roads. Our government leader is clever not goofish, As he gets the support of both red fish and blue fish. He’s honest and bold and he’s fearless and sassy, And he carries our banner in old Tallahassee. For doing a job we can’t have any wimps in We award the fine senator Wilton E. Simpson.
Chamber Member of the Year This year, and I’ll say, in deference to ladies, The chamber went through its own version of Hades. The places we might have gone, we hate to think If our winner had not held us back from the brink Standing unbowed on the bridge of the ship He kept a straight rudder with steady, true grip So surely you realize now with delight Tim Linville’s the man, we salute him tonight.
Community Service A village, you know, would just fall on its ears, If it didn’t have helpful and kind volunteers. Our winner his year has been all over town, Working and giving with smiles - no frowns. He doesn’t seek glory, he’s always low key, If you don’t pay attention, you never will see. That’s why we give tribute with all of our might, To this community servant, the bright Randy Light.
Small Business of the Year When it comes to supporting the schools and the kids, Our small business winner can say that they did. They give to the boosters, they give to the teams, And a grand for each touchdown is risky it seems. Besides that, we don’t need to call Nostradamus, To guess who leads whom in supporting the Promise. Can there be any question as to who is the one? The award goes to car dealer Thomas & Son!
Ambassador of the Year Three cheers for ambassadors - even three more! Foot soldiers and helpers and true to the core. We never can ever say enough good about ‘em, And we have no clue what we might do without ‘em. But this year’s ambassador shone a bit brighter, A former Marine, but a lover – no fighter. So this trophy we give with great joy and great pride, And to Mr. Rod Rehrig, we say Semper Fi.
Leadership in Youth Involvement The award will be given above all the rest, To a group that likes passing a short four-way test. That leaves us with two nominees yet we fear, But only one club will be honored this year. Who helped Thomas Promise and fed hungry kids? Why Rotary Noon – That’s just what they did! And so we award them this trophy quite snappy, For giving their time to make children happy.
Diamond Award This year our diamond award has been given, To a group that helps folks when they struggle with livin’. Because without help no one ever will know All the things they may do or the places they’ll go. Whether water or power or to live here or there, These folks are just bubbling over with care. You all must agree that there’s logical logic In this Diamond winner: the Samaritan Project.
Citizen of the Year Serving meals here and there. Serving meals everywhere. Our citizen of the year you’re guessing, Excels in delivering edible blessings. But I’m sure, at least I think I am, They’ve never served green eggs and ham. Our Citizen of the Year award taker, Is Meals On Wheels Director Beth Aker.

“Oh The Places We’ll Go” Goes Places The Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce present-
ed the 2016 Business and Community Awards Thursday
evening during the chamber’s Annual Member Appreci-
ation and Awards Banquet held at the St. Joseph’s Parish
Center, 38750 5th Ave. in Zephyrhills. The Dr. Seuss-
themed affair called “Oh The Places We’ll Go” drew a
sold out crowd of over 250 business and community
leaders. The event was a sell-out and Executive Director
Melonie Monson called the event a “big success.”
Danny Burgess, District 38 representative in the Florida
House of Representatives emceed the event. Burgess has the distinction of
being the youngest person ever to serve on the Zephyrhills City Council, and
the youngest mayor of Zephyrhills. He is an attorney for the law offices of
Lucas/Magazine and a captain the United States Army Reserves. Burgess also
administered the oath of installation to the chamber’s 2016-2017 Officers and
Board of Directors.
Music was provided by Bruce Edwards and Resurrection Sound.

A light moment occurs as Florida Repre-sentative Danny Burgess swears in the 2016-2017 Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors at the annual banquet this year. Four new faces joined the board this year. Randy Stovall, the Provost Emeritus of Pasco-Hernando State College, Marcia Cornelison of Cornelison Engineer-ing & Design, Keith Williams of Hodges Funeral Home/Chapel Hill Gardens, and John Chesser of Zephyrhills First Assembly of God took the oath of office bringing the total to 14. Sam Abrahani of Zephyrhills Toastmaster is also a newcomer to the board having been appointed to a seat before the close of the past board year. Stovall stepped onto the board as president-elect and will train over this year to take the reins of the board next year. Some city water customers have already discovered a new look to their monthly bill, a change that indicates a new ‘wave’ of modernization and efficiency for Zephyrhills. On Sept. 14 the city and Fathom Water Management celebrated their contract for a new water metering sys-tem that allows residents to more easily access their bills and monitor their water consumption through an online website or a smartphone. City Manager Steve Spina said the $6 million dollar merger is “a big deal” for Zephyrhills. “We don’t normally step out on these kinds of expen-sive projects, but we recognized we had some problems in our utility billing and with our meter reading systems,” Spina said. The city will be able to more easily monitor submitted or delayed payments from residents, as well as oversee leaks and other errors in the water utility. Jason Bethke, president of Fathom, was on hand during last week’s ribbon cutting at city hall. “Customers now have access to new amounts of data to help manage their own water usage,” he said. “For instance, if you leave your sprinkler system on for a day… the system will notice you’re using [more] water than normal and send you a text message. It basically moves all of that information to your fingertips now as opposed to when we send the bill a month later.” Zephyrhills residents will be able to pay their water bills on the new digital platforms, although they will still be able to pay their bills the old-fashioned way by mail or by visiting city hall to pay in person. Spina said residents will be receiving a new account number for their water bills and they will have to create an account to pay digitally. Other than that, water customers won’t have to deal with any other changes, he said. Bethke also assured that the new digital platforms would be easily manageable for residents of all ages. As meters are installed throughout the next several months residents will be able to view their daily water consumption in real time. Spina expects the project will be completed by December. About 18 antennas have been added throughout town, which will read the water meters and send infor-mation directly to the billing office .“It will help us catch financial non-payments through the computer system at city hall,” Spina explained. “It will also tell us immediately if there is a water leak or other problem. So it’s both an economical and environmental boost.”

Announces Voter Registration Deadline
Pasco County FL - Supervisor of Elections Brian E. Corley, announces the voter registration deadline is Tuesday, October 11, 2016, for all new registrants to the State of Florida who wish to vote in the November election.
Voter registration applications mailed to the supervisor's office at PO Box 300, Dade City FL 33526, should bear a postmark of Oct. 11 or earlier, or be brought directly to one of the three Supervisor of Elections' Offices.
Voters who believe their voter registration is in good standing are encouraged to double check their status before Tuesday. Voters can check their registration at pascovotes.com or call (800) 851-8754.
In order to be accessible to voters for last minute registrations and updates, all Supervisor of Elections' Offices will be open Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will have extended hours on Oct. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the locations below.

Flood Resource Center opens Helping citizens affected by the flood Connect with service providers
Pasco County Government has opened a Flood Resource Center (FRC) at 8239 Youth Lane, Port Richey, FL 34656. The FRC’s hours will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to assist flood affected residents and business owners.
Representatives from Pasco County Human Services, Pasco County Elderly Nutrition, Pasco County Veteran Services, and additional com-munity service organizations will be available at the FRC to assist citi-zens and advise them on what resources are available to them.
Citizens with questions can contact Pasco County Customer Service, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (727) 847.2411.

Did you Know You Can Recycle Paper?
Pasco County’s curbside recycling effort has expanded to include newspaper, cardboard, and other mixed paper at the curb for recycling. The change took place June 23rd and li-censed private haulers now accept the materials in your curbside recycling.
“We hope to reduce the amount of paper and cardboard in our trash stream and shift it over to our recycling stream,” said Jennifer Seney, Recycling Supervisor. “It will help our recycling rate and extend the timeframe for adding a fourth burner to our Waste-to-Energy, saving taxpayers money in the long run.”
Paper and cardboard can be put in the same container with other recyclables; there’s no need to separate materials. Call your trash hauler for your recycling schedule and a recycling sticker. The county has recycling stickers, as well.
Examples of mixed paper include: newspaper, inserts, junk mail, office paper, paper bags, wrapping paper, magazines, and soft-cover books. Examples of cardboard include: ship-ping containers (flattened), cereal boxes, pasta boxes, shoe-boxes, shirt inserts, and cardboard tubes.

This year’s guide contains important prepared-ness information - including how to protect your home, family, and pets; what to expect after the storm; insuring against disaster; and much more. The guide also includes an evacuation map and storm shelter listing.

Some Pasco County Offices Closed in October
Several Pasco County Government offices will be closed to the public on Columbus Day, Oct. 10 for a Staff Development Day. Pasco County Recrea-tion Complexes and Community Centers will be closed to the public on Oct. 10, however, the parks will remain open for public use. A Pasco County Animal Control Officer will be on standby for emergency calls only. The Animal Shelter will reopen on Oct. 11, at noon and will close at 6:30 p.m. All Pasco County Libraries will be closed to the public both on Oct. 10 during their normally scheduled closing day and Oct. 14 for a prescheduled Staff De-velopment Day. All Libraries will return to their normal schedule on Oct. 15. All of the Pasco County Tax Collector’s Offices will be closed for Staff De-velopment Day and will reopen on Oct. 11.

The Election Event of the Season and You Guessed It

Just for the record, the repetitiveness of my message the last several months is not an oversight on my part. I'm willing to take the risk of sounding like a broken record, because I can't stress enough how voters can play a vital role in insuring a successful November 8, 2016 General Election. After months of preparation, we hope you will accept our invitation to the election event of the season, but there are a few things you need to know.
The invitation is open to all Pasco County residents who meet the October 11, 2016,deadline to register, or already-registered voters who have proactively maintained their voter registration and are still in good standing. Voters can check their registration status on line at pascovotes.com or by calling 800-851-8751. Please call before the deadline and take the initiative to update your address prior to voting, including voters who have moved within Pasco County or are coming from other Florida counties.
The event menu offers three options for casting your ballot. Voting by mail is the first option which comes with a side of convenience, no lines, no waiting, and room service delivery to your door. Option two is voting early at eight convenient locations throughout the county for 12 hours per day during the 8 days preceding the election. For those who still enjoy traditional voting, there is the Election Day option at your polling location, but plan accordingly for possible lines and waiting. All voters will be re-quired to present a valid photo and signature ID to participate in option two and three. Option one re-quires a current signature on file because all vote-by-mail ballot certificates must be signed and will be compared to the signature on file at the elections' office. Please call the office or visit pascovotes.com to reserve your vote-by-mail ballot or to inquire about early voting sites and wait times, or polling place lo-cations.
An event agenda, better known as a sample ballot, will be mailed to all voters who don't have a vote-by-mail request on file. You will only receive your sample ballot if your address is upto- date at the elections' office. Sample ballots can also be viewed online at pascovotes.com. In an effort to expedite vot-ing, all voters are encouraged to review the agenda beforehand, particularly the proposed amendments to the constitution. Take your marked sample ballot with you to the polls or when early voting. If voting on Election Day, your sample ballot has your precinct and polling place information.
Please note that your Voter Registration Information membership card is not required to attend the event. You will be asked to show your photo and signature ID, or you will be required to vote a provi-sional ballot. Don't wait until the event to find out there is a problem with your registration.
