The Wurmkogel Hotel celebrates its 50th birthday in 2012

and we are so pleased to be able to celebrate this special day

with you.

A lot has happened in 50 years!

When my father purchased the »Schertlerhaus«, the former

builders‘ shed of the Trimmeljochstraße in 1962, he was fasci-

nated by the place, and probably passed a lot of this fascina-

tion on to me.

Since then the Wurmkogel Hotel has turned into a spa pa-

radise where you can spend many a holiday in comfortable

familiar surroundings.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt

thanks to our qualified and friendly team who make this pos-

sible and I hope that they will stay with us for years to come.

On a personal note I would like to thank my wonderful fa-

mily of whom I am very proud and whose love and support is

paramount to the success of the hotel.

But dear guests, it is you that I am most grateful to for your

long years of trust and constant encouragement that we are

on the right path.

On this note we would like to wish you health and happiness,

and we hope that you will visit us again in the next 50 years.

50 YEARS WURMKOGEL 3

Professor Dr. Bruno Haid born 2 May 1915 in Ötz

Son of a long-established, traditional Ötztal family.

17 July 1959A big day for the Ötz Valley. That street that had been en-visaged at the turn of the century and which one had been trying to build for years after the Second World War was now a reality. The 12km street from Untergurgl to Tim-melsjoch was completed after four years of construction. For this construction the »Schertlerhaus« was erected on the site where Hotel Wurmkogel now stands. It served as shelter for the engineers and was scheduled to be dis-mantled after completion of the project.

1962Acquisition of the »Schertlerhaus« by Dr. Bruno Haid.

The street is publicly extended on the South Tirol side and creates a very short link between Austria and Italy in the summertime.

1970Construction of a two-floor building behind the »Schertler-haus«. On the ground floor a stable and a barn were built, with eight guest rooms on the first floor.

15 September 1968

After attending grammar school in Innsbruck and then a humanities-oriented grammar school in Mehrerau where he passed his school leaving exams in 1935, he continued his studies in the Faculty of Medicine of Innsbruck University and gradua-ted as a doctor of medicine in 1941. Supported by his teacher Prof. Burkhard Breitner, a celebrated Innsbruck surgeon, he went to the USA in 1949 after his training, where he undertook further study in the field of modern anaesthesia technique. In 1959 he was appointed chairman of the first independent university hospital of anaesthesiology with its own teaching staff, which in 1959 was a first in Europe. He was world-renowned for his research and knowledge in the fields of anaesthesiology, reanimation and intensive medicine.As a keen mountaineer and ambitious skier he also had a strong interest in emergency medicine. As ear-ly as 1942 he organised the world‘s first flight rescue in Ötztal, which saved the life of a mountaineer who met an accident in the glacier. At the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck he led the medical care for the athletes. He retired on 1 October 1985 and moved back home to Hochgurgl. In October 1994 he suffered a serious stroke and died on 27 December 1997.

We will always remember him with love and thanks.

1984The out buildings were converted into a bar, recreational room and whirlpool spa area. A conference room and four guest rooms were added. A new stable and barn building was erected below the hotel.

Two floors of guest rooms were built on the rear building.

1978

Acquisition of the »Schertlerhaus« by Dr. Bruno Haid.

1972Construction of the front Wurmkogel lift, section 1, oppo-site the hotel.

1977The »Schertlerhaus« was extended on all four sides with further guest rooms and a large guest lounge, though the original walls remain. The two buildings were joined together with a corridor. Thus the hotel kitchen was also built.

1999Renovation of 17 guest rooms in the categories »Country cottage« and »Sunny and warm«.

1994 Major renovationThe following facilities were constructed in a seven month construction phase: entrance hall with reception, daytime bar with restaurant, di-ning room, WC facilities, baths with fitness and leisure facilities, new storage facilities, reorga-nisation of the outside facilities.

1994Carmen Haid took over Hotel Wurmkogel.

Renovation of 5 Wurmkogel rooms on the 3rd floor and renovation of the Wurmkogel lounge. The entrance hall was given a touch of new radiance and an internet suite was created.

2006

Construction of our »Aqua Orange« spa facilities with saltwater pool, herbal bath, feature showers, ice fountain, whirlpool jacuzzis, water beds, relaxation area, sun terrace and fitness room.

Renovation of 14 Wurmkogel rooms.

Complete renovation of the entire second floor of the rear building. Here there are now 19 beautiful new »Edel in Weiss« rooms with en-suite bath/shower room, WC, flat screen TV, telephone, radio, safe, illumina-ted cosmetic mirror, hairdryer and south-facing balcony (only in some rooms), as well as an attractive ent-rance hall. Renovation of the hotel dining room and stairwell.
