Happy Valentine’s Day! Winter Break is February 17—21

T. J. C. Library’s New Form of Communication Karen Arendt, School Library Media Specialist, at T. J. Connor Elementary has gone social! She has started a blog to share what students are doing in the library as well as relevant information about books and reading that relate to our students and families. Parents, community members, faculty, and staff can visit the blog at: http://tjcmediacenter.wordpress.com to see new posts about the library media center.

First- and Fourth-Grade Beach Party After reading the story, Moe the Dog in Tropical Paradise by Diane Stanley, the first graders turned their rooms into a tropical paradise. They invited their fourth-grade buddies to join them. While listening

to tropical music and dressed in tropical clothing, the students read beach stories together and designed and wrote postcards. They also enjoyed some warm weather treats. The students had a warm and wonderful time right here in the middle of this cold winter.

T. J. C. Students Learn to Skate

Third, fourth and fifth grades have spent the last two weeks learning to ice skate. Continuing a long-standing tradition, students were bused to Scottsville Ice Arena for the last two weeks for their Physical Education class. For some of the students, this was the first time they had ever put on ice skates. Even some of the classroom teachers joined in the fun. Many thanks to Scottsville Ice Arena for donating the ice time to help our students learn to skate.

Valentines for Vets T. J. Connor students designed over 100 beautiful Valentine’s Day cards for veterans. Mrs. Liz Streb of the American Legion Auxiliary/Smith Warren Post

delivered these valentines to the Veterans Medical Center in Batavia. The cards will either be handed out to the veterans during a Valentine’s Party, or distributed to those veterans who are unable to attend the party. What a great way to show our support to the brave men and women who have served our country.

Wheatland-Chili Middle School “Students of Character” Every five weeks, we like to take time to recognize students in the Middle School who have consistently demonstrated outstanding character over the course of the school year. Students selected as “Students of Character” have been nominated by their teachers for having regularly displayed Wheatland-Chili’s Six Pillars of Character: Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.

This past five weeks, we have focused on the character pillar of Trustworthiness. Some of the ways in which these students have demonstrated trustworthiness may have been by:

Being honest Not being deceitful, cheating, or stealing Being reliable and keeping their word Doing the right thing (even when it’s difficult) Building a positive reputation Being loyal The students recognized as “Students of Character” this past five weeks were:

6th Grade- Taylor Allen Zoe Schmieder

7th Grade- Madeline Ozminkowski Jerrit Pierce

8th Grade- Traveon Roberts Dejanae Robinson

MS Ski Trip Forms and Payments Due Please remember that our annual MS ski trip is happening on February 28 starting at 9:00 a.m. with students returning to the school at 6:00 p.m. We encourage all students to participate and hope that

parents will encourage their son or daughter to attend. There are several benefits which include: 1. Several hours of ski instruction from the Swain staff 2. A chance to try something new and develop life-long physical activity skills 3. An opportunity to bond with students and staff 4. A reduced rate of $40.00, which is less than half the price the trip would typically cost without a group rate

Forms and payment of $40.00 were due this Friday, February 14, but are still being accepted. If finances are a concern, please call the Main Office for assistance. No student who wishes to attend will be denied an opportunity based on payment. Forms and permission slips can be found and printed on the MS webpage under the Parent Resources located to the left. Please look for MS Ski Trip information at the bottom of the page.

Basketball Teams Honor Seniors Both our basketball teams recently honored our senior class members as they played their last regular season home game. We appreciate all that this group of students has brought to the program and the legacy they leave behind. Each senior was recognized with a few kind words from their coach and one last photo opportunity with parents as W-C basketball players. Good luck to all as they move on to future plans.
