what have you learned from your audience feedback q3
TRANSCRIPT
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Target Audience Our target audience consists of the age range of 15-60 males
and females Due to the USP of our film we initially intended to create it for
the British Public However, an international will be attracted to the film due to
the pastiche of British Culture. It is important for media producers to gain feedback from
their target audiences because it allows them to make any alterations in order to appeal to more people, therefore gaining a larger audience and thus a larger profit.
Existing media producers have gained feedback through surveys, focus groups, questionnaires, forums and social media comments.
For Example, a study was conducted by Steve Dempster , Jane Sunderland and Joanne Thistlethwaite whereby they investigated why boys are seen to be less interested in education. They were asked to read Harry Potter books. This not only helped with the findings for the investigation, but also looked into whether the target audience for the Harry Potter films and books were accurate.
Interim Class Evaluation Our media class watched every trailer that had
been created and then answered standardised questions about what they liked and what could have been improved
This methodology was extremely useful because it enabled the students to watch our trailer and then pin point certain aspects that they enjoyed (giving us appraisal) and constructive criticism in detail.
It was useful due to the improvements that were made which could be used in order to relate to a wider audience by appealing to more people.

Narrative/ Storyline• 5 out of 6 of the groups found our narrative intriguing. This shows that we had thought of an original USP of British homage to attract an audience.
How would you rate the film?
Very Good GoodAverage PoorVery Poor
•4 out of 6 thought the film as a whole was good.• 1 out of 6 thought it was very good. This suggests that our choice of having a wide target audience was wise because 17/18 year olds thought that it was an overall pleasurable film
What did you like most about the film trailer? (Qualitative data)
“The steam from the kettle which dissolves to white”
“The high art style freeze frames”
“The pun”
“The storyline is good”
What did you like least from the film trailer? “The beginning trailer didn’t fit in with
the others”
“Camera shots and music a bit slow”
“Soundtrack goes on for a bit too long”
“No Dialogue”
“As soon as you feel involved-It stops”
How do you think the film trailer could be improved? “More sound other than the
soundtrack”
“More of an insight into the narrative”
“Voiceover to introduce the characters”
“Maybe change the soundtrack when fight starts”
Interim Family Questions I showed my family my trailer poster and magazine cover
and asked them to answer a series of set questions.
These included closed questions (Would you go and see this film?) in order to present them in chart form do that they would be easy to read.
Open questions (What did you like most about this film?) so that they could give their opinions in depth and elaborate their answers
Rating scales (Which film certificate did you think the film suited?) which would allow the data to be analysed as well as giving more detail about their choices.

Camera Work
• 2 out of 3 of my family thought that the narrative was intriguing because “you were able to understand the main plot” and “It had good levels on excitement”. However 1 member found the narrative obvious due to the “Normal conventions found in every trailer”.
• My Mum and Dad both found the camera work exciting because “It had a fast pace and lots of close up shots that made you want to find out more”. • My Sister found the Camera Work appropriate due to there not being “Many different types of camera movements and angles”.
What do you like most about the trailer?
Mum: The original plot The post-modern elements
such as the freeze-frames and monochrome beginning
Dad: The soundtrack The idea of smuggling and
dealing tea rather than drugs
Sister: The editing to make the
trailer more post-modern The voice over of the Prime
Minister with a crackling effect.
What could be Improved?
Mum: Introducing the character’s
personalities and speeding up the soundtrack to fit different paces
Dad: Putting a black line to
divide the split screen and introducing the bad guy more
Sister: Focused the camera more
to give shots better quality and saturated the colours
Poster Family Feedback
Dad:• I like how the main character stands out by putting the white line around her• The title is very eye catching and the gradient affect really works
•It’s a little empty and could include more information
Mum:• The tagline is very funny• I like how professional it looks, especially the names of the actors at the bottom
•Could include something in the background, like scenery rather than one colourSister: • The title looks really clear and stands out well• The gradient background is simple but effective
•The actress needs to be contrasted more to fit with the bold colours of the font and background
Poster Feedback from a Photoshop Expert After Charlie had created the poster, we were
visited by a Photoshop Expert. He looked and the poster and gave us useful feedback.
He liked the font and the background, but said that the character needed to match the boldness of the other features and suggested increasing the contrast and saturation.
Charlie then increased the contrast to give the character more depth and fitted well with the rest of the colours.
Magazine Family Feedback
Dad:• The whole cover is filled with information is a style which you would find on a real magazine cover• I like how important information is in bright colours to catch your attention.
•The character doesn’t really fit in, in terms of colours she is over exposed
Mum:• The background fits in with the British theme in your trailer• Looks really professional and made the information readable • I’m not a fan of the yellow inside of the tea stain, it doesn’t really go with the rest of the colour schemeSister:• The film strip advertising other films looks effective• I like the different sizes of fonts used for the film title and caption underneath
• The magazine title looks like it has been copied and pasted.
Magazine Feedback from a Photoshop Expert and Tutors We were told that some real life
features of magazines were missing and would look more effective if they were included.
We added a date and issue number to make the magazine look more realistic. However, we didn’t have enough room to place a barcode in.
Overall Overall I have learnt that feedback would
have been more appropriate after the creation of our rough cut, which would have allowed us to make any changes at an earlier stage.
If I could re-make the trailer and ancillary products I would have organised a viewing after the rough cut and first drafts in order to make them as perfect and accurate as possible.
