Q3 - WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
FROM YOUR AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK??
SUMMARY
Me and Kaya decided that we would film some
of our audience feedback but also we sent out
two questionnaires. The first one was for the
feedback of our music videos and the second
one for our auxiliary text.
You will be able to see
the answers we
recorded, with question 1
and 4 on the video.
From the recordings we learnt a lot about what went well in our music video
but also what we needed to improve on. It was nice to hear that the people we
recorded enjoyed and liked watching our music video so to us we knew we had
accomplished and produced a worth watching music video.
Secondly when our audience said they understood our storylines I felt as if we
had achieved what we set out to do. But also it was a massive relief for me and
Kaya that our storyline of the love triangle/ chorus was easily understood as we
used a metaphor instead of producing a video based purely on drugs in an
obvious way. One of our audience said all the storylines put together was a bit
confusing however she understood them separately which for me and Kaya we
don‟t take this as a negative just an improvement we could work on in future but
also it was a relief to us that the storylines separately worked well and were able to
understand.
We both wanted to know what we needed to improve on as
to us our target audience opinions were very important
throughout creating our music videos, this was because we
wanted our video to be appealing to them.
I liked the fact that each person had a different part we
needed to improve on as that means each audience member
had a different perspective on the video. Even though that
meant we could of improved on a few parts, it was nice to hear
their opinion as we wanted them to be honest and brutal with
the answers they gave. Instead of not being negative because
they didn‟t want to offend our video or our feelings.
THE ROLE OF EDWARD .
Me and Kaya feel as if we need to justify Ed‟s role within the music video
as there was an increased amount of negative feedback. For us we thought
it was a good idea using the band in the music video as it is a commonly
used conventions, so we wanted to use Ed and Jacob in the video.
We cannot judge his rapping as it was Me and Kaya who chose the song
however due to one of the audience feedback she says that he didn‟t seem
passionate about the lyrics he was saying which made it hard for the
audience to connect with him. However I do agree with this comment he
doesn‟t seem very interested and engaging which was the complete
opposite to how Jacob was. This is something we could of improved on as
we wouldn‟t want our audience turning the video off because they thought
his verse was „boring‟.
QUESTIONNAIRE WE SENT OUT .
We wanted our target audience to
give there honest opinion on our music
video. We decided to send a
questionnaire out as before when we
sent out a questionnaire it helped us out
with creating the video. So then we knew
we wanted to know how they felt about
the finish product.
Male Feedback Female Feedback
Looking at all of our responses back from our questionnaire, it is clear to
see that our target audience has different views on the chorus‟s and verse‟s. I
like that this is visible to see because it makes our music video‟s more varied to
our target audience.
Also it was nice to see that our audience thought we had used enough
effects and camera angles, which to me I was relieved about as I thought I
could have used more camera angles in the chorus.
I have also noticed in some of the questionnaire‟s we got back, the
improvements said Ed didn‟t fit the criteria of the male actors. Which by
having this said again by other people makes me question whether we should
have chosen a different male actor all together to play the role of Ed and not
sticking to conventions.
Me and Kaya was really concerned about the location we chosen
for the chorus. This was because once we had all of our filming done we
realised that it wasn‟t that busy so did it look realistic. However the
majority of feedback we got for locations were positive as they said
they fitted either the song or the storylines being presented.
The questionnaire responses helped us to see how our target
audiences felt about our music video‟s. We did use similar questions for
our questionnaire as the recordings but we did this because we knew
some people are shy when they are being filmed and don‟t want to say
their honest opinion as they didn‟t want to come across as nasty or
harsh. However when you can write your opinion down you be more
truthful as you are anonymous.
The idea to do a second
questionnaire was to see if our
auxiliary text would be
appealing to the audience, so
we knew the best thing to do
was to get their feed back on
this section.
We wanted our text to be
different and go with the
underlying theme of drugs. So
we wanted to know if we had
achieved this idea but also if
the risk off doing this pulled off.
Questionnaire we
sent out.
A male‟s feedback A female‟s feedback
We took a risk on our album cover with having three different effects. Luckily
for us this paid off and the majority of the feedback we got said they liked all three effects, it made the cover look different from other album covers and
all three worked well together. It took me a while to figure out what writing I wanted for the words behind
Sarah and also to state the bands name and song title. So I wanted to involve a question on the writing in the questionnaire “ Did the writing go with the front cover” every person who gave feedback said yes for the bands name and song title, they liked how the green fitted to the rest of the cover and the style of font was easy to read. The majority said yes for the for the writing behind the picture however, one person said they couldn‟t read
some of the words. But then realised after looking at the cover again they noticed that the words at the top of the picture were hard to read but then they stood out at the bottom. Once they realised this, they thought it was a clever idea and really liked how we did this. Although they did say it could have been a bit more clearer to see the idea we went for.
All the feedback for the back cover was all positive which me and Kaya were happy about as
before I even put the back cover together I knew exactly what picture I wanted to use. Everyone
said they thought the picture worked well with the theme of the song and also the front cover. The
costume he was wearing fitted perfectly with the colours being dull. Also they said by having him
smoking cigarette and him being mesmerized by the smoke, it links straight to the song and sets a
likely setting of what the music video will entail.
I was a bit unsure about having the writing in red as the front cover had green writing.
However our target audience thought the red writing was bold and stood out but fitted well with
the picture beside it. They felt it didn‟t draw attention away from the picture but was visible and
clear to understand and read. Lastly they thought it was good how we had no other people
walking past in the background as it gave the feeling that the boy was in his own little world whilst
smoking the cigarette which also links to the music video. I personally didn‟t think of this when I
took this picture but I like how a few of our audience have interpreted this picture in a way they
can relate to.
The feedback we got about the picture was really positive, we had that it would appeal to our
target audience and also that the grungy effect we used fits perfectly to the music video. One
comment said they like how the camera is looking up at them showing them to have more power and
look more intimidating. Our target audience also like the stances of the two boys because with the boy
on the left smoking it links back to the drug orientated side of the song and then with the boy on the
right he has his arm crossed which makes him look likes he is important and in control especially with
him looking directly at the camera.
We did get a few negative responses on the colouring of writing, especially the pink colour as a few
people said it was hard to read some of the information that was given. I completely agree with this
comment as looking back at the picture I have noticed that a few words are lost, however the colour
pink was the one colour that showed up the most with effect we used. It could have been my fault for
choosing such a hard effect to write over. Although I don‟t regret my choice as one of the positive
feedbacks we got was about the effect.
To me I felt like I had put a bit to much information on the
poster, however all the feedback said we had all the information they
would need to know if they were to buy this album. Also they like the
fact that we had the logo‟s for where the song is accessible to
download from if they were going to use digital technology to listen to
the song. Another thing that they liked was how we made sure that the
information of where the album is available from and the date when it
goes on sale is clear and stands out from the other information. As they
believe this is the most important information to have on the poster.
Lastly the majority of our audience like how we have put the image
of the album cover in the bottom left hand corner, as they know what
to look for when they go to buy the album.
Out of all the auxiliary text pictures we showed our audience, they all said
this is their favourite one because its unique and they have never seen this
kind of layout in the inside of a cover before. So they were interested and
intrigued on how the pictures of the band and the characters merged into
one another.
Secondly they like how the banner of pictures go across the middle
which gives the illusion that the images are on the graffitied wall which they
feel link to the music video they have just watched as the picture is in fact the
location to one of the verses. Futher more they thought it was effective that
all the characters in the video were all close together and facing the
front, whereas the band members were looking sideways on staring at the
actors, blowing smoke towards them.
By having some of the writing inside, it made the back of the album
cover less jam packed so it was less confusing to read. The information inside
was useful as they know who sang what in the song, which the audience felt
was useful to them.
Lastly there was a comment made about how they liked the quote from
the band thanking both myself and Kaya. The comment made was “ I liked
the fact the band said a thank you to the girls who put in so much time and
effort in making their video, to me it shows that the band and actors have
gratitude towards the girls” To me I felt the comment from the band wasn‟t
majorly important however I am now glad I used it as our target audience
has picked up on it and made comments.
