The CP Holiday Train wraps up its 2014 tour in WeyburnThe Canadian Pacific Holiday Train made its last stop of
2014 in Weyburn on Wednesday, December 17. The Holi-day Trains make stops in communities across their servicearea, offering free concerts and seasonal festivities from aboxcar that they have turned into a travelling stage. Theannual event sees CP Rail and the Salvation Armypartnering together to raise food and cash donations forfood banks across North America. To date, the train thattravels through Canada, and the other one which travelsthrough the United States, have covered over 100,000miles,raised close to $9.5 million and 3.3 million pounds of food

The Canadian Pacific HolidayTrain rolled into WeyburnDecember 17 for itsannual visit.
since the program first began in 1999. The CP Rail HolidayTrain wrapped up its tour right here in Weyburn, whichmarked one of 150 free concerts the entertainers providedover the three week process.
The Salvation Army was on site, providing free hot choco-late and collecting cash and food donations. Once the trainarrived, the crowd was treated to a performance from coun-try music artist, Kira Isabella.
The evening continued on with a presentation from CPRail. A cheque for $5,500 was donated to the local WeyburnSalvation Army. The official results of the "Food Fight" con-
test between Barber Motors and the City of Weyburn wereannounced. Barber Motors came out on top with a collec-tion of 638 pounds of food, compared to the 572 poundsof food collected by the City of Weyburn. Cash donations

Annual JAMS dinnerset for December 25
Over the past 11 years, Sandy Johnson and her threedaughters have been spreading their Christmas cheer toresidents of the community without anyone to spend theholidays with.
"We have donated over $10,000 back into the commu-nity," said Johnson.
In 2003, Johnson's husband passed away, and she andher daughters, Jen, Ali and Mikki wanted to make a differ-ent memory for their own family. Spending it cooking Christ-mas dinner for others is how JAMS Family Christmas DayDinner idea came about.
"It is not just us, but numerous volunteers over the yearswho have also given up their Christmas Day to serve oth-ers," added Johnson.
The dinner takes place Thursday, December 25 at KnoxHall beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Anyone wanting to come, can register until that day, how-ever, they will accept walk-ins. To register for the dinner,volunteer to help or to donate, call 306-842-3316.
"We will deliver to shut-ins as well as provide pick up forpeople who may need it," said Johnson.
A $10 donation is suggested, which will go to the KnoxHall general fund.

collected by the City of Weyburn, along with help fromEnerplus and Crescent Point Energy, totalled $10,857. Bar-ber Motors was able to collect $8,800. In the end, The Cityof Weyburn came out slightly ahead of Barber Motors inthe food fight challenge as each dollar raised was counted asone pound of food. Either way, representatives of BarberMotors and the City both agreed that all fun aside, the realwinner from the challenge was the Salvation Army and allwho benefit from the work they do all year long.
Community members, along with Microtel, brought over800 pounds of food that evening. CP encourages everyonewho attends the concerts to bring along food donations.The successful event, which raised over $20,000 of cash/food value donations, will stay in the City of Weyburn.
Anyone who attended the concert can upload their pho-tos to the website at http://www.cpr.ca/holiday-train/canada. CP Rail hosts a photo contest with the grand prizebeing a passenger on next year's Holiday Train.

There's little to compare to the excitement of a child waiting to dive into the treasuretrove of parcels under a tree. Or, of an adult whose carefully disciplined emotions didn'tquite reach the pupils of his or her eyes. Whether dancing with pleasure or rubbing one'shands in anticipation, removing the barrier between the recipient and the gift is anythingbut dull. At least it shouldn't be.
If your family is like ours, you've established some traditions regarding this importantphase of Christmas celebrations: Who passes out the presents? When does the unwrap-ping begin? Where does the first gift come from i.e. back of the tree or? Why that order?What happens next?
What happens next can range from delighted surprise to sometimes ill-concealed disap-pointment, or anything in between. You see, it's not even so much how the parcel orenvelope is wrapped, it's what is inside that matters. That less-than-beautifully enfoldedbox could well contain a long hoped for treasure while conversely, a magnificently swathedgift might hold something of no value to the recipient. As lovely or as tacky as it may be, theoutside wrapping of any gift is no guarantee of its value or lack of it.
I've been giving a lot of thought to that concept. The manner in which we judge the skina person comes it too often prejudices our reaction to them. Unlike those brightly colouredparcels stashed beneath a tree, it's far too easy to dismiss someone or someone's talentssimply because of how they appear on the outside. God doesn't.
"For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, butthe Lord looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7)

Wishing you a joy-filled ChristmasWith Christmas carols playing in the background at our shopping places, Christmas
decorations and lights displayed for the last month or so, countless Christmas parties andconcerts to fit into our busy schedules, and every second person wishing us a "Merry Christ-mas" or the dreaded secular-sounding "Happy Holiday" for the last several weeks, is it anywonder that we are practically all "Christmassed out" by the time that the actual feast ofJesus' birth arrives on December 25th? Maybe at best, we can muster one last hurrah andgrand finale on this day itself to stuff ourselves with all manner of turkey and all thetrimmings, before we toss the tree outside on Boxing Day, and pack away all the lights anddecorations for another year.
It seems harder and harder every year for our churches to maintain the season of Adventof waiting and preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ, as we anticipate the celebra-tion of Christ's first coming in order to be in touch with His promise to return at the end oftime. The commercialization of Christmas with all its hustle and bustle has us usually wornout before the solemnity of Jesus' Nativity arrives for us to celebrate the implications ofChrist's incarnation, the mystery of God's Son coming in human flesh.
No wonder we often mistaken the joy of Christmas for something other than the mysteryof God sending His Son into our world to set us free from our sins and to bring us Hissalvation. What we associate with Christmas joy is hardly more than an extension of theconsumeristic mentality of earthly happiness and pleasure which in itself is very fleeting andmomentary. Real Christian joy is not based upon the number of presents under the tree oreven what is in them. True Christian joy is not dependent on our emotional state ofhappiness connected to our wants, but actually is based upon the establishment of lifelongand life-changing friendship and relationship with God and our Lord Jesus Christ, uponwhom we place all our trust and faith as the source of our inner peace and sense of fullcontentment. This is not based on everything going well exteriorly but more on His presencethat abides despite all the trials and tribulations we are dealing with. In the midst of ourpoverty and hardships, true Christian joy endures and prevails because at its heart is the keyrelationship with Christ, who helps us to overcome all that hurts and hampers our relation-ship with God and others. By His coming into our world, Christ brings forgiveness andhealing for our sins, as we turn to Him with repentance and contrition in our hearts.
In the name of our Saviour, may your hearts be filled with His joy, His peace, and His loveas you celebrate with thanksgiving His birth in the humble stable of Bethlehem, establishingthat He has clearly come for all, regardless of our status and station in life.

So, I gave her a job that required hard work and gave her the $10 she earned and then Imade her pay me for what she lost.
Listen, when I realized I was more than half the problem in this whole entitlement parentingchallenge, it was a wake-up call. Kids naturally want what they haven't earned, especially if weare handing it out for free.
But what we have is an entire generation of young adults who got everything they everwanted with little or no work; we have a cultural norm and it's a problem.
Because reality is, life doesn't give us everything we want. We don't always get the best jobsor a job at all. We don't always have someone rescue us when we have a bad day or replaceour boss just because we don't like them. We can't always have what we want when we wantit. We aren't always rewarded in life.
Here are nine things we can get rid of to begin eliminating entitlement in our children:1. Guilt: Often we give into our kid's requests out of guilt. We need to stop feeling guilty
for not giving our kids everything they want. It's hard to swallow, but we foster the attitudeof entitlement in our homes when we are ruled by a guilty conscience. It's okay to ask kids tobe responsible for what they lose and to require consequences for actions.
2. Overspending: I think it's good for our kids to hear us say, "We can't afford that" Or"We will have to save for it." Because that's real life. We don't have All The Money to Buy Allthe Things. I've known families before who are working multiple jobs to keep kids in extra-curricular activities, when honestly, the kids would probably be happier with more familytime.
3. Birthday Party Goody Bag (Mentality): I've been guilty of this like most of us. But, really?We take our kids to parties so they can give a gift, but they take a small one home so they won'tfeel bad? It's not their birthday. This concept of spoiling kids (which usually goes far beyondgoody bags) is temporary fun. It's okay for them not to be the center of attention.
4. Making our day-week-month, our world about our kids: Working in the non-profitworld has redirected our extra time. We simply can't center our lives around our childrenwhen we are centering our lives around Christ. Child-centered homes don't help children inthe long-run.
5. The desire to make our children happy (all the time): If you visited my house, you'd findout pretty quickly that someone's always unhappy. It's not our job to keep our kids happy.Don't carry that impossible burden. Typically when our kids are unhappy, it's because weare standing our ground. And that makes for much healthier kids in the future.
6. Made Up Awards: You know what I'm talking about. Rewarding everyone who partici-pates in every area only fosters an inflated self esteem. Kids don't need rewards for every littlething. It's okay to lose, they learn through failure as much as success.
7. Fixing all their problems: I don't like to see my kids struggling. There's a part of everyparent that longs to make things right in their child's world. But it's not healthy to create afalse reality. You won't always be there to do so and not only that, if you're doing it all foryour child, why would they need to learn to do it themselves? Fixing all their problems isreally only creating more challenges in the future.
8. Stuff: We could all probably fill a half dozen trash bags with just stuff. Excess. Try it.Bag it up and get your kids to help you and give it to someone who needs it.
9. Unrealistic Expectations: My girls are always asking for manicures. I didn't have oneuntil I was married, pregnant and 27 years old. I'm not opposed to the occasional treat, butit's the attitude of expecting it because you as a parent or others have it. Just because I havean iPhone, doesn't mean my children will get one. We don't have to give our kids everythingwe have. It's okay to make them wait for things in life.
It's okay to toss out these things. Go ahead, give it a try.Merry Christmas and may all your dreams come true in 2015!

Saskatchewan's population has grown to nearly 1,130,000 according to the latest figuresreleased today by Statistics Canada.
As of October 1, there were 1,129,899 people living in Saskatchewan, an increase of 4,489in the past quarter and 18,102 in the past year.
Premier Brad Wall noted it was just seven years ago that Saskatchewan's population hit onemillion people.
"Since then, we have seen steady growth of another 130,000 people - nearly 20,000 peryear," Wall said. "That kind of growth creates both opportunities and challenges. One of thosechallenges will be to keep our economy and our population growing in 2015 in the face offalling oil revenues. Our government will be working hard to meet this challenge throughsound fiscal management, continued investment in important infrastructure projects and taxincentives for new growth and job creation.
"The good news is that Saskatchewan's economy is a lot more diversified than it was just a fewyears ago, so a slowdown in one sector can be offset by growth in other areas. That's why wecontinue to enjoy the strongest rate of job creation and the lowest unemployment rate in thecountry, in addition to continued population growth."
Over the past year, Saskatchewan had the second-strongest rate of population growthamong the provinces, behind only Alberta.

It appears that the Cugnet family have appeared in ‘A Christmas Carol’ this holiday season.The movie sees ghosts of Christmas past, present and future appear, but there was definitely no Scrooge on site. On
December 19, Crescent Point Energy donated a total of $185,000 to the community of Weyburn in memory of KenCugnet, who passed away earlier this year. The family participated in choosing the three organizations which would receivethe donations. Ken's wife, Joanne Bannatyne Cugnet, along with the family were present for the donations.
"Our whole family was just entirely touched that they would choose to do this, and the fact that they gave the choice ofcharities to our family," she said.
The recipients, according to Joanne, were representative of the past, present and future of the Weyburn Community.The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #47, which is representing the past, received $40,000 to aid in the repairs to the roofof the hall. The present was represented by Nickle Lake Regional Park. A total of $120,000 was donated to help with thedevelopment of new campsites for the area. The park has seen an increasing demand of people wanting to camp over thesummer holidays. Lastly, representing the future, the Cugnet family chose to create a bursary of $2,000 for 12 years tograduates from Weyburn Comprehensive High School. The bursary will be awarded to a student who chooses to pursuestudies in petroleum engineering or geology.
Crescent Point Energy staff were pleased to work alongside with the Cugnet Family, in making these donations possible.CP representative, Dale Rinas commented, "For us to be able to have these donations today in the memory of Ken is
really gratifying."
The Cugnet family, in partnership with Crescent PointEnergy, donated $185,000 to the community ofWeyburn on behalf of Ken Cugnet.

Year End Review by Ed Komarnicki, M.P. Souris-Moose MountainThe focus has been on
growing the economy andcreating jobs. Govern-ment direct programspending is down for fourconsecutive years, the firsttime this has happenedsince 1961-62. Over 1.2million jobs have beencreated since the reces-sion. The economy isfragile, however, so wemust continue to be vigi-lant, especially with thef luctuation in oil andcommodity prices.
We have cut taxes over160 times and are keep-ing them low. This alonehas saved an average fam-ily of 4 approximately$3400 per year. The over-all federal tax burden isat its lowest in 50 years.Canada's total govern-ment net debt continuesto decline and remain thelowest of any G7 country.
We are on target to bal-ance the budget in 2015with a projected surplus of$1.9 billion. The govern-ment will continue to re-duce the size of the fed-eral debt with unused an-nual contingency funds.
In addition to all of theabove, we have added a sig-nificant income boost tofamilies with children. Forany couple with children
under 18, a new tax provi-sion will allow them to in-come split to a maximumof $2000 per year. Al-though some may opposethis, the time has come tolook at whole family in-come when it comes totaxation as families de-pend on that income tomeet their needs. Also,anyone with a child under6 will have the UniversalChild Care Benefit raisedfrom $100 to $160 permonth for an annual to-tal of $1920 per child. Fora family with two childrenunder 6, this would mean$3840 per year, a fairly sub-stantial amount. Also, afurther payment of $60per month per child fromage 6 to 17 will be forth-coming for a total of $720per child per year. The neteffect will help familieswho need help most.
The New BuildingCanada Plan that includesthe national infrastructurecomponent, the provin-cial/territorial regionalcomponent, as well as asmall communities com-ponent has been estab-lished for the next 10years, and the program hasnow been fully launchedby the federal and provin-cial governments. This,along with the Gas TaxFund, will add nearly $50billion to communitiesover the next 10 years.
As we know, we sawmany trade deals signed,and the most significantwas the agreement withthe European Union.This should allow us tocontinue to lead on theeconomic front. We arealso working hard tostand up for Canada andfor Canadian values on
the world stage. We stoodin solidarity withUkraine, we were neverneutral with terrorists,and as always, we stand byIsrael. After pictures ofbeheadings by members ofISIL, and the murder andrape of women and chil-dren, a raw nerve hasbeen struck with Canadi-ans. In my view there isclear support to eliminatethe threat, and when wecan, to degrade the assetsand ability to organize and
carry out operationalplans. The Liberals areabsolutely on the wrongside of this issue, as arethe NDP. The murders ofWarrant Officer PatriceVincent and CorporalNathan Cirillo drivehome the fact that thesetypes of actions can betaken on Canadian soil.
All in all, it has been abusy year with an electionlooming in next year's ho-rizon. You can expect par-tisanship and actions in
the House to take on anew energy as all partiesset their eyes on the 2015election. The Hill seldomremains dull and there isalways a news story wait-ing to be told.
I would like to thankyou, my constituents, forthe support I have receivedthis far and I can say ithas indeed been a greatprivilege and honour torepresent you. I offer mybest wishes for a healthyand prosperous new year.

My FavouriteChristmas MemoryMy favorite Christmas memory was when I was eight yearsold. My Papa (grandpa) was still alive and all the kids sat infront of him. I (Nikki) was in the front followed by my sister.Renee and my cousins Kailyn, Ayden, Justine, and Jami. Hegave all the kids presents. He always gave the best presents! Igot a Barbie pool and my cousin, Ayden, got a Spidermantoy and we played for hours. Later the kids played hide andseek and I was always the best! That was my very best Christ-mas memory. My best Christmas memory was when I was sick on Christ-mas day and I opened my presents and I got a Barbie house.It was bright pink with an elevator and a balcony. Then I woke up crying and screaming "Whereis my Barbie house?" My Mom came upstairs and told me itwas downstairs. I asked if she could carry me downstairs andlet me play with it. She took me downstairs and set me downbeside the Barbie house and I did.

My favorite Christmas memory is when we got my first quad.I was so happy I ran up to my Mom and Dad and huggedthem so tight they couldn't breathe. I ran out the door andmy Mom came out too. We went in the house and bundledup, then tried to start it up, but it wouldn't start. We pushedit to the garage and left it for a bit. I finished unwrapping mygifts. I got a new sled, a toy truck and a movie. We dranksome hot chocolate and went outside to build a snowman.Then we went to the garage, the quad started and we drovearound town. That was the best Christmas ever in humanhistory!

My best Christmas memory was last year, when my parentsgot me a pellet gun and some things too. The day we drove tomy Grandma Sheila and my Grandpa Roland's house. Ourcousins, aunts and uncles were there so my cousins and Iplayed games and ran around the house. After a while wehad supper and dessert. Then we opened presents and playedwith them. Then we visited and played cards. When we weredone at Grandma and Grandpa's house we drove homeand started to clean up the wrapping paper, the tape andthe other garbage. We brought our Christmas presents intoour rooms and told our Mom and Dad thank you for ourpresents.

One Christmas morning I was at my grandma's house inKindersley. I woke up and I woke everybody else up. We wentupstairs and ate Christmas breakfast. The iPad had games on it alreadylike Mindcraft and Survival Craft. I also got some othercool games but I played those two games most of the day. Iwas so happy. When I was on my way home I played myiPad. I thought to myself this is the best Christmas presentever.

My favorite Christmas memory is when my cousins and Iwent sledding on their giant hill on some new sleds that theygot for Christmas. One of my cousins pushed me when I wasin a sled and one of my other cousins was at the bottom ofthe hill. I put my hands in the ground to stop me then mycousin that pushed me yelled at him to move but he did nothear him so I yelled too.
