The contract agreement covers the period April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2017. Approxi- mately 90 per cent of physicians voted in favor of the agreement. "This agreement represents a fair and competitive compensation package for the grow- ing number of physicians in our province," Health Minister Dustin Duncan said. "It dem- onstrates the shared commitment of government and physicians to improve access to care for Saskatchewan residents." "The physicians of Saskatchewan are focused on improving the quality of patient care and this agreement will allow us to continue those improvements," SMA President Dr. Mark Brown said. "This agreement recognizes the evolving nature of practicing medicine in Saskatchewan. Given the current fiscal circumstances, the agreement provides a modest increase in fees and maintains a strong foundation to continue improving quality and access in the health care system." Over four years, the agreement provides physicians with a total fee increase of 4.9 per cent, along with 3 per cent in one-time lump sum payments. As a result of the agreement, funding for medical services and programs will increase by approximately $85 million over the four year agreement. The agreement provides investments in programs to support increased patient access to medical services, best practice and standardized care. As well, it continues a strong empha- sis on rural Saskatchewan and supports overall success in recruiting and retaining physi- cians in the province. "This agreement recognizes how much we value the significant contributions of physi- cians to Saskatchewan's health system, and will help maintain our competitiveness across Canada," Duncan added. A song from the heartBy Linda Wegner

I've played the piano in theadvanced dementia unit ofour local seniors' home foryears and it's become one ofmy favourite places to ticklethe ivories. Residents some-times stare blankly but acloser look may reveal toes orfingers that, ever so faintly, beat out the rhythm. Othertimes, a shadow of recogni-tion flits across a face, fol-lowed by the tremble of lipsseeking desperately to con-nect with those long-lostwords. A recently completedbeautiful new seniors' facilityboasts an expanded andlight-filled area for the hymnsing. Last week it was packed

By Helen WallerMy husband and I were recently invited to help celebrate

a 50th wedding anniversary. I mean 50 years! This couplehas spent more time together than I have been on planetearth. The invite may have stated ‘your presence is your gift’but in my opinion, that wasn't going to cut it.

This was quite the accomplishment and I didn't feel rightshowing up empty-handed. So I Googled the words fifty, years, anniversary and gift. Sometimes Google comes up withquite a lot of options to sort through, but this time, everysearch engine came to the same conclusion. When a couple

A holiday

Perhaps you have seen the news reports or the internet videos of Planned Parenthoodexecutives apparently negotiating over the sale of body parts from aborted human babies. The reaction to these revelations has been almost universally negative, and rightly so. Whatcould be more barbaric than the sale of human arms, legs, livers or lungs? And especiallywhen those are parts of babies, prematurely torn from their mothers' wombs! We're morecivilized than that, aren't we?

Unfortunately, when the evidence is considered, we may not be so civilized after all. We letthe slaughter of infants go on right under our noses, seemingly agreeing with the pro-choicepropaganda that abortions do not remove babies, they remove tissue. We seemingly acceptthat as long as a baby is in the womb it is not really a baby at all; out of sight, out of mind. And when that "tissue" is "harvested", we seem quite content to let it happen as long as we arenot confronted with gruesome images of mutilated babies, or videos of executives talkingabout selling body parts. "Out of sight, out of mind" seems to be our mantra. As long as weaccept the sanitized pro-choice euphemisms for what is actually happening, we can continueour lives undisturbed.

That's the problem though. These videos have brought what is out of sight into the light. We are faced with the reality that when abortions occur, doctors are not merely removingtissue. They are forcefully tearing tiny human beings from what ought to be the safest placeon earth. And what festers in our collective ethos is not only that human body parts arebeing sold, but also that people were murdered to supply those body parts, and we as asociety have sanctioned and subsidized all of it. We have even awarded one of abortion'smost outspoken advocates with the Order of Canada!

You might protest that you do not support abortion at all. Maybe so, but is your outragereserved for macabre negotiations for human organs over Caesar salad, or does it extend tothe systematic, sanitized murder of 65,000 Canadian babies every year? That's the reality weare dealing with! While the murder of one would be a tragedy, the murder of thousandsought to be unthinkable.

Perhaps these videos will cause us to think about the unthinkable, and realize that whenwe witness a holocaust of the unborn, indifference equals complicity. While we value ourtolerant society, we must be careful that our tolerance does not become our indifference, and that our indifference does not become our indictment.

Pastor Harley Porter, Gospel of Grace Fellowship

Indifference equals complicity

with residents of all levels ofcare plus numbers of visitingfriends and families. As I be-gan, a staff member wheeledin one last attendee.

I'd never seen this residentbefore, don't know his namebut for the purpose of thisarticle, I'll call him Gregory.I'm not sure what first at-tracted me to Gregory, hismissing teeth or his vibrantsmile. What I do know is thatwhen he was wheeled into theroom, his excitement was allthe thanks I could ever wishfor.

"I can't remember thewords," he blurted out, evenas his hands directed somefar-off choir. Jumbled syl-lables accompanied the key-board melody and the smilenever faded from his face. "I

wish I could remember thewords," he repeated. He wasparked immediately besideme, skirting the end of thepiano bench and I whisperedto him, "don't worry aboutthe words, just enjoy the mu-sic". I'll never know if he un-derstood me or not.

I was reminded of a pro-found truth, however: nomatter how confusing life gets, how painful the circum-stances, nothing is more im-portant than rememberingthe song.

"Speaking to one anotherin psalms and hymns andspiritual songs, singing andmaking melody in your heartto the Lord." (Ephesians5:19)

Thought for the week

celebrates their 50th wedding anniversary, you buy them GOLD. There is not a modern daysubstitution. The only thing that fits the bill is GOLD. Makes sense to me. Fifty yearstogether definitely deserves GOLD of some sort (perhaps in the form of a medal).

So, we arrived for the evening with my basket full of GOLD wrapped goodies (thinkchampagne and Ferrero Rocher chocolates). The perfect go-to gift. Even if he doesn't like it,she will, and let's face it, after a few years of marriage myself I have learned that a happy wifeis a happy life.

The evening was full of great food, drinks, laughs and, best of all, marriage advice. As theevening proceeded, it was brought to our attention that another couple there had cel-ebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. After doing the math, I realized we were among aset of couples who had spent over 100 years together, happily married. As the evening settleddown, I asked the couples to give some advice/quotes to couples to keep their marriageworking.

The answers were both entertaining and surprising! The husband said - “Yes, Dear. The two magic words in any marriage.”The wife said - “Darn right, and don't forget it.”The husband said - “Men to the left.”The wife said - “Because women are always right.”The wife said - “I hate arguing.”The husband said - “But the fun is in making up.”The husband said - “Drop her off at the doors, whether it be her work, Costco,

Walmart or the mall, be a gentleman and give her door to door service.”The wife said - “Don't forget to leave your credit card.” The wife said - “When I talk to him, he can't hear me anyways.”The husband said - “Good, good.”The husband said - “Always kiss her goodnight.” The wife said - “And don't forget the morning.”There were many more priceless quotes, hearing these two couples describe their experi-

ences that summed a total of over 100 years of marriage. My favorite wasn't a celebrity orTV quote, but was from a couple who had actually lived through 50 years of marriage andwere still smiling ….

Provincially, topsoil moisture conditionson cropland are rated as twoper cent surplus, 52 per centadequate, 33 per cent shortand 13 per cent very short.Hay land and pasture top-soil moisture is rated as oneper cent surplus, 36 per centadequate, 43 per cent shortand 20 per cent very short.

Sixty-six per cent of fallcereals, 68 per cent of springcereals, 64 per cent of oil-seeds and 63 per cent ofpulse crops are at their nor-mal stages of developmentfor this time of year. Midale man wins $2 millionBecause he was born in a Year of the Rabbit, Andrew Mok's wife told him his horoscope

"I used to buy lottery tickets two times a month, he said. I like all different kinds of lotterygames, but now I always buy WESTERN 649 for both draws each week."

The Midale resident picked up his winning ticket at the Midale Qwik Stop at 105 StephanStreet.

"I thought I won $200at first, and that was great,he said. Then the retailerchecked and told me, it'smore than $200. You won$200,000; no, it's $2 mil-lion!"

"I just started to smile, hesaid. My heart started beat-ing very, very fast. I tried tocalm myself down. I didn'twant to get too excited!

Mok has a few ideas forhis windfall.

"I don't want to go crazy,he said. I'm going to putmost of it in the bank, payoff a loan, and buy someinvestments. After I dothat, I'm going to remodelmy restaurant."

Never before in my life have I hoped a head coach is wrongmore than I do right now.

Prior to Sunday's home game against Hamilton, Roughriderscoach Corey Chamblin told his team in his pregame speech,"This will determine what type of team you're gonna be forthe rest of the season!"

TSN cameras caught the address and the commentatorsnoted how fiery Chamblin was in his talk.

The club then proceeded to blow a 21-17 lead in the fourthquarter and lose 31-21 for its fifth consecutive defeat to openthe 2015 CFL season.

0-5.Of course to make matters worse, quarterback Kevin Glenn

got injured making a tackle on an interception he threw atthe end of the third quarter and was unable to finish thegame. His status is now in question for this Friday's game atthe division-leading Edmonton Eskimos.

Initially, the inkling is that this season is a write-off andwe haven't even hit August yet.

Upon my return home after the game, my wife asked, "Soare we eliminated from the playoffs?"

And the answer to that question provided the one slimglimmer of hope the team has at this point.

No, they are not eliminated from the playoffs and there arestill 13 games to go. In my first season calling games in 1999,when the club finished 3-15, the Riders were miraculously inthe playoff picture right down to the final weekend.

But something needs to change with this team immedi-ately. There's one bullet left in the gun and should they falterat Commonwealth Stadium this upcoming weekend, it wouldbe tough to convince even the most-optimistic of fans - oreven the players - that this season can be saved.

Defense cost Saskatchewan the Hamilton game. Just likeall of their games so far this year. Chamblin, the club's defactodefensive coordinator, tweaked their approach and appliedconsiderably more pressure against the Ticats on Sunday thanwe've seen all season. But the result was the same.

"Just like you say, we brought the heat," Chamblin saidafter the game. "We got after (Ticats QB Zach Collaros) anddid everything we could. That's football and we couldn't keepthem out of the endzone. The thing we can't do is quit, nomatter what. This is one of the toughest situations they'llever be in but we have to fight another day."

Amidst all of Chamblin's postgame quotes, that was thekernel which stuck out to me. "We couldn't keep them out ofthe endzone."

So the time has come for Chamblin to relinquish the dutyof calling defensive plays and hand it over to Greg Quick, theman whose business card actually says "Defensive Coordina-tor".

The facts are staring the Roughriders right in the face. What they've been doing simply isn't working. There havebeen promises all season long but they've come up emptyeach and every week.

It's come to this.Receiver Weston Dressler has emerged as the leader of this

football club in the absence of injured quarterback DarianDurant and even he has run out of answers.

"It's getting harder and harder to talk to you guys," Dresslertold us on CKRM's postgame radio show. "Coach told us toremember this day. We're at the bottom and have nowhere togo but up."

That part is likely true. And it was so sad to see most of the31,683 fans in attendance on Sunday head to the exits with1:41 remaining. There was so much hope in their faces allgame long, but it is quickly evaporating.

"You never want to see people leaving early when there'sstill time on the clock. It's tough," Dressler continued. "Ifwe had the answers we'd be winning games instead of losingthem."

That was the toughest part to digest. The Riders don'thave the answers and if they don't, who does?

It's time to try something different, before it's too late. The clock has started ticking on Corey Chamblin's mostlysuccessful time in Saskatchewan and no doubt there will beplenty of calls for his dismissal between now and Friday. Butthat, assuredly, won't happen.

"I think, no matter what, through social media the playersare gonna read (speculation on his future) and they shouldn'tbe worried about my future," Chamblin said calmly. "Theyshould be worried about theirs. My mindset is the guys inthat room. As long as I'm here, that'll be my focus; to get winsfor the guys in that locker room."

For the last couple of weeks Chamblin has sounded like adead man walking and it's clear the team is down to its last out.

But they're not giving up. They can't. Not yet."It's gonna be a heckuva ride when we pull out of this

thing," Dressler concluded. It has to start Friday night.
