WritingReading instruction focused on 3 key areas:
Daily 5 Reading Read to Self The best way to become a better reader is to practice each day, with books you choose, on your just right reading level. Read to Someone Reading to someone allows for time to practice strategies, helping you work on fluency and expression, check for understanding, hear your own voice, and share in the learning community. Listen to Reading We hear examples of good literature and fluent reading. We learn more words, thus expanding our vocabulary and becoming better readers.
Daily 5 Writing Journaling Just like reading, the best way to become a better writer is to practice writing each day.Writing Prewrite, Rough Draft, Edit, Revise, Final Draft, Publish, Share. Word Work - Teach children to read, spell, and use high-frequency words. Teach word family patterns which allow children to read and spell many other words.
How you can help your child become a reader:Read to your child daily.Have your child read to you.Take your child to the library.Read signs and other text with your child at home and in the community.Model your love of reading!
