Headline South Florida Makeup Artist “Aims To Please”

Anais Guerra is a self-employed makeup artist in the South Florida whose love for makeup began at a young age. She she was the girly girl among her three brothers Alain, Avian and Ariel.

“She was meant to do this,” said her oldest brother, Alain. “My brothers and I always tried to force her to play sports with us, but she was always too busy playing dress up or practicing her makeup skills on our mom.”

In high school, Anais was the go-to girl to do her friends makeup for any special event. Anais learned as she practiced all on her own with no training.

Guerra enjoys the creative field, so she studied advertising at Florida International University. She worked at Ocean Drive magazine for a few years after she graduated but left to go to beauty and makeup school where she expanded her makeup knowledge. Shortly after, she began “Makeup By Anais,” which is currently in its fifth year of business.

“Makeup was always in the back of my mind throughout school,” she said.

Her business began by word of mouth and also social media. Clients posted her work on their sites and tagged it with her Twitter handle @makeupbyanais. Their posts included the final makeup look and captions of how great they felt. Guerra also posted photos on her social media of her clients finished look.

  

“It was scary at first throwing myself out there,” Anais said, “but little by little I gained more confidence and I love it.”

Like any self-employed business woman, Anais feared failure. This feeling motivated her to succeed.

Anais manages her schedule and normally works weekends.

Her days start in the early morning and go into the evening depending on the number of clients. She calculates an hour per client for each appointment.

She’s aware that this business would interfere with her weekends but has never second-guessed herself. When it comes to spending time with her fiancé and stepchildren, they plan family time around her appointments.

“As her future husband, I support her all the way. What makes her happy will make me happier,” said Omar Babun.

Anais brings out her clients inner and outer beauty that makes them feel good about themselves. She travels with a black plastic makeup bag containing MAC products, and a customized stool puts her clients at eye level.  Anais does makeup for any occasion, but her top clients are brides.

“They’re pretty on their own, but it’s my job to make them look and feel even prettier on their special day,” Anais said.

“I felt like a new woman,” Beatriz Pazos said. “I just couldn’t wait to walk down the aisle to my husband in confidence since I felt like a princess.”

Makeup is the final step in the preparations before a wedding. Brides become emotional on the makeup chair and it’s more than just makeup, it’s a connection between Anais the artist and the bride.

Whether her clients prefer a natural look or a dramatic smoky eye, Anais does just that.  Even if she thinks her client can rock a red lip, she always asks beforehand.

A woman’s makeup preference is very personal. Though she may believe her client will look gorgeous, “if she’s not comfortable with it, I’ll choose a color based on her preference.”

Her work ethic of listening gets clients to book another appointment for pregnancy or anniversary pictures.

“There’s no greater feeling than to love what you do. I plan on making women feel beautiful for as long as I can.”
