1 Research into different natural disasters. Create a slideshow, fact file, or an information page presenting these.

● What is the disaster?● How does the disaster occur?● What causes the disaster?

Her are some examples of natural disasters● Volcanos● Tsunami● Avalanche● Hurricane● Flood● Earthquake● Forest Fire● Landslide● Drought

Draw these natural disasters in the correct place on the grid. Create your own grid, there is an example below.

B4 - Volcano E3 - Earthquake

H8 - Tsunami C7 - Avalanche

A2 - Flood I9 - Forest fire

J5 - Hurricane D6 - Storm

G1 - Drought F10 - Landslide

Create an emergency pack ready for when a natural disaster happens.

Think of items that are essential (food, drink, medicines, clothes)

Then include some items for your welfare (teddy, family pictures, colouring book)

Label the pack like the example below

Remember - You will need to carry this pack around so don’t make it too heavy!

2 Write a diary entry as if you were experiencing a natural disaster. You can choose which natural disaster.

Remember to write;● In the past tense ● About yourself (I, We)● The events in order● Your thoughts● Your feelings● In paragraphs

Arranging from smallest to biggest:

GREEN Task: Research 10 volcanoes and find out the height of each one. Arrange and name each volcano from the smallest to the largest. Remember to note the height and name of each volcano.

Want more of a challenge?RED Task: After arranging the volcanoes can you answer the following questions? Which volcano is the biggest?

● Which volcano is the smallest?● How many meters are between the biggest

and smallest ?● Can you double the height of the biggest

volcano?● Can you double the height of the smallest

volcano?● Round each height to the nearest 10 and

then to the nearest 100.

Label this map showing different volcanoes across the world.

Challenge - Research and add 3 other volcanoes on the map!

3 Can you unscramble the following jumbled up letters to uncover words related to natural disasters:vanolocekureathaqatmunislvaacdsionettrutoardondfoloclatimegmamatormre

Challenge:Now that you’ve unscrambled the words - can you put them into sentences e.g. Orange lava explodes into the air and runs down the mountain top.

TIMELINE:

Choose one type of natural disaster (Look at language 1 for ideas)

Research to create a timeline showing the events of this disaster over time. For example if you choose volcanos, you will need to research to discover where/when these explosions happened over the world.

Then put at least 5 events in order on a timeline

● Include the disaster● Include the date● Write a small summary on the disaster● Draw/Include a simple picture

**Begin with the earliest date, and finish your timeline with the most recent date.

Create a piece of art that conveys our theme: Natural Disasters

You can choose any style e.g. paint, pencil work, sketching, pastels neu a piece of 3D work. Look at the below work below for some ideas:

4 Create a front page of a newspaper showing any real natural disaster that’s happened. For example the forest fires in Australia in 2019/2020, Earthquake in Haiti 2010, Tsunami in Thailand 2004.

You need;● Title / Headline● Subtitle / Subheading ● Pictures● Information - What, Where, When,

How● Facts● Quotes (maybe an interview with an

expert / eyewitness)● Paragraphs

Emergency bag - weight:

Imagine that you need to prepare an emergency bag with thing such as:

● a water bottle,● a torch,● medication● etc.

Experiment to see what weight you can comfortably carry e.g. 2kg, 3kg, 4kg?

Remember, you cannot escape effectively with a bag that is too heavy. The bag will slow down your escape.

Choose your target weight e.g. 3kg / 3000g. Make a list of the items that you need to put in the bag. This information can be collected in a table or you could draw a labelled picture.

Make sure that your emergency bag does nol exceed your target weight. Good luck!

Follow the instructions on the link below to make a volcano of your own!

Take a lot of pictures or a video to show your volcano erupting!

disasters.

List the words in alphabetical order.

- volcano- earthquake- flood- tsunami- landslide - hurricane

Write a definition of the words as if they were for a dictionary.

You can include pictures to help with the definitions.

- Earthquakes- Volcanoes- Storms- Floods- Landslides- Extreme Temperatures- Wildfires- Drought

websites below to support your research.

Activity: Draw a picture of a volcano and record some facts.

Here are some ideas to help you:
