March. 1, 2021

Last week we learned that astronauts are people who explore space, and they rocket ships that launch into space. Today, we will learn about Airplanes. Like rocket ships airplanes are a type of air transportation.

What is an airplane? – Airplanes are large passenger crafts that people use to fly so that they can travel in the air.

Like spaceships airplanes need special people to be able to fly them. The people who fly airplanes are called pilots.

Where are airplanes? – airplanes are found at airports. They need a lot of space called a runway to help them take off and land on the ground.

Music and Movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omTOqecTimU

Pretend: Help students to be the pilot of an airplane act as their copilot. Help students set up chairs as rows on an airplane and pretend to inspect it as part of the safety check. Pilots do safety checks along with other people to help make sure a plane is safe to fly. After preforming the safety check pretend to welcome people onto the plane and fly it to a destination.

Kitchen/house: pretend to clean out the refrigerator because you are planning to go on a trip for a week’s vacation and you need to clean before you go.

Carpet/Block Play: Use blocks to build different size airplanes.

Sensory Play: Pretend rice/rice and beans are the sky and add some cotton balls as fluffy clods then use airplane toys or a few spoons to pretend they are airplanes and pretend to fly them in the sky.

Page 2: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 3. 1. · Cruise ships are large boats that people can stay on for long periods of time. They have places for people to sleep, places

Art: Airplanes use engines, propellers, wings, and tails to help them fly. Let’s help students build or their own airplanes out of paper.

Science/discovery: Create paper airplanes and help students make them fly.

Today, we will learn more about traveling using airplanes.

Why do we use them? – We use planes to help us travel far distances. We use them to travel in the air to fly over large areas of land and bodies of water. We use airplanes to travel to different states and countries.

When we fly places, we need to go to the airport and show information that identifies us called a passport. We also

Music and Movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODzmMBuwjKs

Pretend: Help students pretend to pack and get ready to go on an airplane. Use students’ clothing and/or the sorting suitcase to pack for the trip and pretend to board the plane. Set up chairs as airplane seats and slide the packed bags under them.

Kitchen/house: Pretend to be a flight attendant getting food ready to serve on a airplane.

Carpet/Block Play: Build an airport. Build airplanes. Use people toys and pretend they are

need to have a ticket with our name on it.

At the airport there is a lot of security to help keep use safe. Airport security, flight attendants and pilots all work to help us stay safe when we travel by airplane.

Flight attendants help us once we are on the airplane. They can look at our ticket and help us find our seats, put our bags away, and tell us the rules for flying safely. They help us fasten our seatbelts. If we need something, we can push a button for help while we stay in our seats for safety. On some flights the flight attendants might give out snacks and drinks or for longer flight lunch or dinner.

getting ready to go on an airplane.

Sensory Play: Use playdough to build airplanes.

Art: Help you child fold paper to create a passport book and draw a selfportrate on the front of it as their passport photo. This passport book can be a fun way to kepp track of the different activities students are doing in the classroom and at home. Use stickers or a drwing to mark like a stamp on the page in their passport. Each page should be labled as a center (Pretend , music and movemement, kitechen, carpet/blocks, art, sensory, writing, science/discovery, math, and phonics/literacy)

Science/discovery: Try to create a paper airplane that is different than the one(s) you created yesterday. Then help students make them fly and see which airplane(s) fly better

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KPaxKUDj6I

Fine Motor/Manipulatives: help students use tweezers/tongs to help sort small balls of paper by color.

Page 5: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 3. 1. · Cruise ships are large boats that people can stay on for long periods of time. They have places for people to sleep, places

Writing: Fill out the information in the student’s passports. On the first page of the passports help students trace: their name, date of birth, Country, and date the passport was created.

Math: sorting objects and toys- Use clothing items to have students practice sorting the clothing by what it is (socks, shirts, pants, underwear).

Literacy: Books- Sit with your child to look at books. Work on book handling and care, turning pages, attending to 2D images, and attending to a story being read to them. Work on picture identification and what and where questions while looking at books. Work on finding words that begin with the letter of the week /k/.

Book suggestion (English): https://www.getepic.com/app/read/71958

Book suggestion (Spanish):

Phonics: This week’s letter is /k/. Review the letter name of the letter and the letter sound with your child. Letter /k/ for kite.

Help students cut strips of paper to build the lowercase letter k. then cut 2 triangles or a diamond to form the shape of a kite.

2021 Ferries, cruise ships, speed boats, fishing boats, sail boats, kayaks rowboats and canoes.

What are boats? - Boats are vessels that float on water and can be propelled/moved by sails, oars/paddles, a motor or engine.

Ferries are boats often used for shorter trips across water. They carry large numbers of people and are used by people in our community to get to work or to travel to different places that are across bodies of water.

Cruise ships are large boats that people can stay on for long periods of time. They have places for people to sleep, places to eat, and games for people to play on the boat.

Speed boats and fishing boats are smaller boats for less people. They are used to travel on water for short amounts of time. Like ferries and cruise ships they also use motors to move on the water.

Sail boats have large sails that wind blows to make them move.

Pretend: Pretend to be the captain of a fishing boat and go fishing at sea for different fish.

You can use sting with tape on the end and paper fish with letters or numbers on them to encourage student to go fishing and try to identify or match the letter or number on the fish that they catch.

Kitchen/house: Pretend to be on a cruise ship. Help students plan and cook a menu for the passengers. What meal will they make (breakfast, lunch, or dinner)? What types of foods should be on our menu?

Carpet/Block Play: Build Docks: Invite students to build docks/boat launches. Where are they built?- they are built from land into the water. What type of transportation uses them?- Boats are used for water transportation.

Sensory Play: Use a sponge to create a boat with a sail that can float and when students blow on it, it begins to move along the surface of the water.

Art: Have students pick a boat they want to make. A sail boat that is moved by wind, a ferry that is moved by its motor or a row boat with oars to move it throgh the water.

Science/discovery: Try some different materials around the home or classroom to see what

Page 7: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 3. 1. · Cruise ships are large boats that people can stay on for long periods of time. They have places for people to sleep, places

kayaks rowboats and canoes are the smallest boats meant for 1-2 passengers. They use oars and paddles that people push through the water to make the boat move.

When on smaller boats it is important to follow directions and use a lifejacket to stay safe.

things might make the best boat.

Fine Motor/Manipulatives: Use popsicle sticks or spoons and pretend they are paddles. Use rice and practice pushing the rice with the paddle. Look what happens to the rice when you push it. It goes backwards and that will push the boat forwards.

Writing: Tracing squares and rectangles.

Math: sorting objects and toys- Use crayons, markers, pens, and pencils to have students sort them into groups of the same objects.

Literacy: Books- Sit with your child to look at books. Work on book handling and care, turning pages, attending to 2D images, and attending to a story being read to them. Work on picture identification and what and where questions while looking at books. Work on finding words that begin with the letter of the week /k/.

Book suggestion (English): https://www.getepic.com/app/read/54702

Book suggestion (Spanish): https://www.getepic.com/app/read/54723

Phonics: This week’s letter is /k/Review the letter sound with your learner. Students will walk around their homes with an adult to help with identifying objects in the home that start with our letter of the week.

Today, we will learn about a form of land transportation people do using their own bodies. Using our legs to walk and run is the most common way people use to change their location over to go short

Music and Movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7qdWyHMjwE

Pretend: Pretend to be out in the community and practice street and sidewalk safety when walking.

Page 8: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 3. 1. · Cruise ships are large boats that people can stay on for long periods of time. They have places for people to sleep, places

distances. We can walk to get to other types of transportation. We walk to transport ourselves around our community to go to stores with our parents, and to change our location in our homes and school we can walk to the bathroom or other locations. When we walk or run places, we need to make sure we do so safely. If we are walking around our home or classroom/school, we need to make sure if we are wearing shoes, they are on our feet correctly- meaning that they are tied or Velcroed on and fit. If we are outside, we need to wear shoes and we should hold an adult’s hand. We need to follow directions and follow street signs with an adult and use cross walks.

Kitchen/house: Spill some toys on the floor (leave some open spaces) and help students try to get to the other side safely. Then have students help pick up the toys and try to walk across the same space where the toys were. It is safer and easier to walk when things are not on the floor.

Carpet/Block Play: Help students build a community and help the people toys walk around the community. Help make sure they follow signs and cross the streets at cross walks.

Sensory Play: use people toys and have them walk on sand.

Art: We use our feet for walk. Let’s trace our feet and glue sand on them to show that we use feet to walk on land.

Science/discovery: walk on different surfaces at home/ in the classroom first with shoes on and then with shoes off. It feels different when our shoes are on. That is because shoes help protect our feet. Try a hard floor, carpet, something squishy, something lumpy.

Fine Motor/Manipulatives: let’s help students create a shoe that they can lace and put some decorative foam stickers on or draw/color on.

Writing: https://www.getepic.com/app/read/54702

Math: Math: sorting objects and toys- Use forks, spoons, butter knives mix them together and have students sort them.

Literacy: Books- Sit with your child to look at books. Work on book handling and care, turning pages, attending to 2D images, and attending to a story being read to them. Work on picture identification and what and where questions while looking at books. Work on finding words that begin with the letter of the week /k/.

Book suggestion (English): https://www.getepic.com/app/read/8984

Book suggestion (Spanish):

Phonics: Work on identifying/matching skill for this month’s letters: o/q/r/k/y

Use letters o/q/r/k/y on flash cards laid out on a table. Then have a bowl of the letters o/q/r/k/y on cut on pieces of paper so that you have 4 of each letter in the bowl. Mix the in the bowl and have the student draw the letters out and match them to the large letters on the flash cards. Say each letters name as they are pulling them from the bowl and matching. Encourage student to say letter if speech skills are present.

Friday Today, we will learn about 2 other Music and Movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kpxKsQPNpM

forms of transportation that we use on land that we use our legs to move: bicycles and scooters.

How do we use them?- we use our legs to push petals or push over the ground and make wheels turn so that the bike or scooter move.

How do we stay safe while we use them? – To stay safe we should always ride them with an adult. We should wear helmets and wear shoes. We should make sure that when we use a bicycle, we sit on the seat the right way and use 2 hands to hold the handlebars.

On scooters we should make sure that we stand on the scooter with one foot and push with the other foot while we hole the handles.

Most importantly we should always look and watch where we are going.

Pretend: Pretend to be riding a bicycle or scooter around outside. Follow the safety rule make sure to check your shoes and pretend to put on a helmet before you ride.

Kitchen/house: Pretend to ride you bicycle or scooter to go babysit or to a restaurant to help in the kitchen.

Carpet/Block Play: use blocks with wheels to build a scooter and use the people toys to let them take turns riding it.

Science/discovery and Sensory Play: roll blocks with wheels on/ in different surfaces, top of table, carpet, in sand, in rice.

Art: Help students creat a helmet and decorate it.

Fine Motor/Manipulatives: Work with insert and interlocking puzzles.

Writing: trace letters x, k, y, t, f, v, w

Page 11: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 3. 1. · Cruise ships are large boats that people can stay on for long periods of time. They have places for people to sleep, places

Math: Math: sorting objects and toys- Use toys such as blocks to have students sort by color.

Use toys such as blocks, character/people toys, and cars to have you child sort them into groups based in what they are.

Literacy: Books- Sit with your child to look at books. Work on book handling and care, turning pages, attending to 2D images, and attending to a story being read to them. Work on picture identification and what and where questions while looking at books. Work on finding words that begin with the letter of the week /k/.

Phonics: Work on matching all lowercase letters from the alphabet. Lay out letters on flashcards 3 at a time and direct your child to match a letter to one of the letters laid out in the field of 3 by telling them “match i with i”. After they follow the direction to match switch all the letters with new letters and have them match a new letter. If student does not match correctly. Show them the correct match then have them do it before switching out all the letters.

Work on identification by pointing for all lowercase letters of the alphabet. Lay out letters on flashcards 3 at a time and directing your child to point to one of the letters laid out in the field of 3. After they follow the direction to point switch all the letters with new letters and have them point to a new letter. If student does not point correctly. Show them the correct letter to point to then have them do it before switching out all the letters.

Social Emotional- Review Week 20 by looking at Daily Social Emotional Letters.
