Using Twitter for effective recruiting

Twitter is an indispensable platform, especially to businesses who have embraced social media, not only for organic marketing but also to carry out recruitments. Moreover, Twitter earns a company ubiquity - the Holy Grail of every business trying to achieve brand leverage.

Recruiting via social media is further enhanced by video interviewing software, a software that enables fast interviewing of candidates regardless of their geographical location.

Video interviewing software is essential for hiring managers because it allows for screening of potential employees boosted by the visual presentation of the interviewee.

To effectively use social media effectively for recruiting, a company must do the following:

a)           Place a direct link to your website

Online users are an impatient lot, their attention divided among many different sites they just want to peruse. Therefore, it is paramount that the link to your business is a direct link.  Do not make your followers dig for the information by including many sites before reaching the intended site.

The disadvantage of links is that some people never follow links because they think it is an advertiser’s game or that it may not lead them to the stated page. After all it is a treacherous world out there.

b)           Tweet and tweet

For a company to create a connection with social media users and make an impact, you have to be as social as possible. Post tweets on upcoming events, changes made in the recent past, new job openings that could attract more candidates. Keep tweeting and tweeting even if it means you will be labeled a twitter freak.

This strategy can backfire because excessive tweeting from a single source can get annoying and put off the online users.

c)           Follow as many people as possible

The fact that you have posted your company’s listings on Twitter does not guarantee you an automatic audience. To sell yourself, you have to follow as many people as possible. Follow friends, friends of friends, other business associates, hiring companies-follow everyone that can give you a sizeable audience.

Following potential candidates will enable an employer to supervise their tweets which boosts candidate screening.

However, the downside of this is that, some online users ‘borrow people’s profile’ – what is depicted on the social media is not the reality.

 d)         Ensure that the company’s website is detailed, up to date and appealing as well

Profiling of a company should be a top priority. The last thing you need is directing potential online candidates to a bony website that lacks information that may be important to them if they need to apply for the job. What is the background of the company? What services or products does it offer? Where is it located? How does it carry out its operations? All these information should be included in the company’s profile.

More and more companies are turning to Twitter as a recruiting platform for the vital reason that it engages potential candidates. It is a platform that seeks to sample the best of talents from a vast world and put them into good use. With a little help from video interviewing software, a manager is bound to harvest a large pool of qualified personnel that would propel his company into the future.
