The owner of a casting agen-cy in Table View has beenaccused of withholding

payment to extras who workedin a movie shot in Cape Townlast year.During the investigation it al-

so came to light the owner, Ti-mothy Roach, could be listed asa “sexual predator” on the Illi-nois Sex Offender Registrationfor aggravated criminal sexualabuse.Thewebsite states that someo-

nenamedTimothyRoachwas 27at the time of the offence and thevictim was 14-years-old.It also indicates he is “out of

state” at the moment.Table View’s Roach apparent-

ly graduated from law school atEverest University a few yearsago and moved to South Africa.Now numerous actors and ac-

tresses, who prefer to stay ano-nymous out of fear of Roach’s al-leged threats, are waiting forpayment for work done on amo-vie starring Sasha Baron Co-hen, Mark Strong and PenelopeCruz.Roach cannot be reached by them, and

if he contacts them it is apparently froma private number.The casting agency, Dream Castings,

has also since moved away from itsBlaauwberg Road premises.

Last week TygerBurger sent an urgentenquiry containing allegations of non-payment to the casting agency’s email ad-dress. A short while later, Roach contac-ted the newspaper from a private num-ber.“If any of these allegations of non-pay-

ment are printed then I will take yournewspaper to the highest court,” was Ro-ach’s opening move.He then went on to say that every pay-

ment that was withheld was done so be-cause the extras were either tardy or poa-ched items off the set.

It was discussed that thisnewspaper’s questions be sentto the casting agency’s email,which would then be answeredover the weekend and sent backon Monday.Besides the non-payment alle-

gations, Roach was also askedin the email about his apparentstatus as a “sexual predator”and whether someone with a si-milar chequered past could runan agency catering for childrenand adults. At the time of goingto print on Tuesday, Roach hasstill not replied, despite a fol-low-up mail.The agency’s contact number

also doesn’t work.One actress states: “Yes, he

has accusedme of poaching, butI never did! It’s hear-say. I’mguilty by association.”Another complainant said

she was ever-so-slightly late on-ce, but that does not mean Ro-ach could withhold payment.Not everyone who is awaiting

payment can be linked to tardi-ness or poaching off-set, howe-ver.“I’ve been waiting since Sep-

tember... He kept promising hewill pay, but lately he just hasn’t answe-red his calls or emails. He told me I mustwait three months for payment, but stillnothing. I was always on time and neverpoached anything.Henever evenmentio-ned this!”

A woman, who is six-months pregnant, waspunched in the head and two elderly menwere kicked during an armed robbery inMontague Gardens on Monday.

When Cape Town Appliances opened itsdoors for business, four unmasked menstormed into the place, waved their guns ineveryone’s faces anddemanded that they liedown.

After the ordeal the suspects escapedwith cell phones and laptops.

The store’s Jamie Rossouw got the dis-tressed phone call informing him of the in-cident just as he was about to leave the gym.

His pregnant sister and his father weretwo of the victims.

“It’s probably a good thing I wasn’t there,because I don’t know what I would havedone had I seen someone punching my sis-ter,” says a furious Rossouw.

“She told them there is nothing in the safeand they can take her laptop, then theypunched her in the head.”

She was later taken to hospital for a check

up, but according to Rossouw she and thebaby are doing fine.

“We keep no cash on the premises, so theytook what they could lay their hands on.

We are not surprised this happened, be-cause Montague Gardens is rife with thesebusiness robberies. It was only a matter oftime before we too were targeted... It wasalmost inevitable,” he said.

The incident happened just a few days be-fore the store was planning to install CCTVcameras.

“The armed guys were not wearingmasks, but as my dad said, nobody looks ata face when they stare down the barrel ofa gun.”

His sister, father, two staff members anda customer were held up at gunpoint.

According to Rossouw, the police tookabout an hour and a half to arrive on thescene.

Milnerton police station spokespersonWarrant Officer Daphne O’Reilly, con-firmed that a case of business robbery hadbeen opened and will be investigated by theSerious and Violent Crime Unit at the sta-tion.

West Beach’s 7 Eleven store was once againtargeted by criminals last week Wednesdaywhen cash and air time was stolen.

According to the police, the incident hap-

pened at 03:30.Chubb Security was alerted of the break-

in, but the suspects had already fled the sce-ne.

It is alleged a vehicle reversed into theglass sliding door in front of the store to gainaccess.

Local police spokesperson, Warrant Offi-cer Daphne O’Reilly, elaborates: “A house-breaking at business premises was openedand will be investigated by the Detectivebranch. It is alleged that the complainantlocked up and left the premises the previousevening at 23:05.

“Early the next morning the complainantreceiveda telephonecall fromChubbSecuri-ty who informed him the shop was brokeninto.

“When the complainant arrived at the pre-mises he noticed the front window was for-ced open. On further investigation he founda cash register and the airtime register wasremoved from the premises.”

The value of the items stolen is still un-known, said to O’Reilly.

as people living in the north and travellingtowards the city know, incoming traffic is al-ways a nightmare during rush hour.When they arrived, the birdwas sitting on

twohad to drive past it, take theKoeberg tur-noff and come back on the N1.Ted made his first attempt to catch the

bird in a large net and failed.It half-flew-half-ran across the incoming

lane and somehowmanaged tomake it to theother side.Edna admits that she had to close her eyes

a couple of times as it looked certain that thecormorant would not make it.Every time the two failed to catch the bird

it fled to the other side of the barrier, whichmeant every time they had to get in their carand take a highway exit further up the road.Since the bird was already injured by the

time Ted and Edna arrived, (Sanccob rec-kons itmust’ve beenhit by avehicle earlier),it was distraught.

Decades of experience at rescuing birdscompelled Ted to wait a while before he at-tempted to catch it again.“You get to know how birds react to cer-

tain things,” says Ted.“It was startled by everything and looked

at every car and truck that sped past, everypersonwalking on the other side of the road.I knew it would have calmed down later, sowe waited.”Ted and Edna hid behind the car while the

terrified cormorant’s heartbeat sloweddown.Eventually, after about 25 minutes, it loo-

ked away at a group of people and Ted knewthat was the moment to make his move.He was approximately four metres away

from the bird when he gave two or three gi-ant strides with the net rushing through theair.This time the bird was trapped before it

could have another near-death experience.Ted and Edna put it in a box and then the

peaceful darkness enveloped the fretful bird.Once at Sanccob’s headquarters, it was de-

termined that the white-breasted juvenilecormorant was in a very weak state.Upon closer inspection by the veterinari-

an team, it was identified that the bird hada bruised chest, blood on his beak and wasmost likely hit by a car. As a result, he wasput on a drip, given antibiotics and vitam-ins, and allowed to rest under the watchfuleye of the bird rehabilitation staff in the In-tensive Care Unit.The next day he was apparently feeding

well and already standing upright.Francois Louw, spokesperson for Sanc-

cob, says the juvenile cormorant will hope-fully soon be released into the wild thanksto Ted’s bravery.In thankingTedandEdna, SanccobExecu-

tive Director Dr Stephen van der Spuy said:“If there is a medal for bravery for savingseabirds then Ted surely deserves it.”

Vehicles illegally using the dedicated Inte-grated Rapid Transit lanes (also known asred lanes) will be fined R600 when caught onCCTV camera footage.This has been revealed after a reader sent

a photo to TygerBurger in which the trans-gressing vehicle can be seen using the laneillegallywhile a traffic official is in the back-ground.The reader was upset that the official

didn’t pull theminibus over and issue a fine.

“If the officer had seen the vehicle in theIRT lane, he could have pulled the vehicleoff and advised the driver of the offence, butthevehiclewould alreadybe chargedby theCCTVcameras, sowewould notwant to du-plicate the fine,” said City of Cape Towntraffic services spokespersonRichardCole-man.“Vehicles driving on the red bus lane are

charged via the CCTV cameras on the lane,which is amanual process andnot automat-ed. The footage is viewable by the owner ofthe vehicle or for court purposes after thefine is received in the post,” he continues.

The reader is furious at the number of vehi-cles using the dedicated bus lane, and indicat-ed it is apparently fine for government vehi-cles to use the lane.Coleman, however, says no vehicle is al-

lowed to use the lane for “commuting purpos-

es”.“The only vehicles which are allowed to

Die advieskomitees vir beskermde omgewings sal saamgestel word ingevolge dieRegulasies oor die Behoorlike Administrasie van Natuurreservate gepubliseer onderGoewermentskennisgewing R99 in Staatskoerant 35021 van 8 Februarie 2012.

Die natuurreservate waarvoor advieskomitees gestig sal word, sluit in Blaauwberg, BothasigFynbos, Botterblom, Bracken (insluitend Perdekop), Durbanville, Edith Stephens, Valsbaai(insluitend Rondevlei, Zeekoevlei, Pelican Park, Slangetjiebos, Zandwolf en die Strandfontein-voëlkykgebied), Helderberg (insluitend Silwerboomkloof), Harmony Flats, Lourensrivier,Steenbras, Tafelbaai (insluitend Rietvlei, Dieprivier, Milnerton-renbaan en Zoarvlei), Tygerberg,Uitkamp-vleigebied, Witzands-waterdraer, Wolfgat en die Zandvlei-riviermonding.

Die komitees se doelwitte is die fasilitering van interaksie, kommunikasie en betrokkenheid endie ontwikkeling van vennootskappe met belanghebbendes en omliggende gemeenskappeten einde die natuurreservate se doelwitte te bevorder.

Die komitees sal die mandaat hê om advies en insette oor strategieë, bestuursplanneen verslae te lewer asook vordering met implementering te monitor, betrokkenheid bybesluitneming te bevorder en natuurreservate se skakeling en integrasie met omliggendegemeenskappe te fasiliteer.

Alle regeringsorganisasies, gebruikersgroepe, gemeenskapsorganisasies,nieregeringsorganisasies, akademiese inrigtings en inwonersverenigings of omliggendegemeenskappe met ’n werklike belang by natuurreservate word genooi om aansoek te doenom lidmaatskap van die advieskomitees.

Die grondwet vir die stigting van advieskomitees vir beskermde omgewings in die StadKaapstad, soos op 5 November 2014 deur die portefeuljekomitee oor energie, omgewings-en ruimtelike beplanning goedgekeur, bepaal hoe hierdie komitees bedryf sal word. Diegrondwet is aanlyn beskikbaar by www.capetown.gov.za/paac.

Aansoekvorms om lidmaatskap kan op die webwerf hierbo afgelaai word en moet van ’nskriftelike, ingeskandeerde mandaat van die organisasie op sy briefhoof vergesel word.Nominasies moet die naam van ’n hoofafgevaardigde bevat en kan ook ’n sekondêreafgevaardigde insluit wat die lid by vergaderings kan verteenwoordig en as ’n kontakpersoonkan dien.

funds to purchase the first two prefabricatedbuildings, one to be used as a classroom andthe other to be revamped as an ablutionblock with five flush toilets.The Rotary Club of Blouberg has served

the local community for 28 years by raisingfunds for, and doing hands-on work for, avariety of local charities and institutions.They have helped provide literacy tools

The 17th 99er Cycle Tour andMTBChallen-ge took place on Saturday 7 February.

A total of 4 606 cyclists took part in theevent,which included a 108kmand 64kmro-ad race anda 35kmand 12kmMTBrace. The108km event is an official premier seedingevent for the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2016and is the third largest cycle race in theWestern Cape.

The 108km men’s event was won by Si-mon Geschke in a time of 2:34:31. The wo-men’s event was once again won by JennieStenerhag. Conditions were wonderful onrace day, with very little wind, and a greatracewas enjoyed by all. This year the ridersleft Durbanville via the CBD main road forthe first time in the race’s history, which

waswell supported by the local authorities.The race winners prize giving hadWesternCape minister of economic opportunities,Alan Winde, who is also a keen cyclist, asguest speaker. He highlighted the impor-tance of cycle races suchas the 99er as a con-tributor to tourismand economic growth inthe Western Cape.

This year the family focus of the 99er Cy-cle Tour and MTB Challenge was expandedto include amongst others, a 5km and 10kmFun Run/Walk which had over 200 entries.A kid’s fun zone with jumping castles, facepainting and kiddie’s fun rides were enjoy-edbymany.The inaugural kiddies 3kmridewas well supported, with more than 80 chil-dren aged 2 – 8 participating.
