CSR INITIATIVES

Light of HopeIn line with Sunway’s “Light of Hope” programme to reach out and touch the lives of the lessprivileged especially during major festivals, Sunway devises a string of activities and celebrates withindividuals from underprivileged homes, schools or orphanages throughout the nation. To date,Sunway has hosted more than 80,000 underprivileged children, single parents and the elderly to amemorable and joyous day-out at Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World of Tambun theme parks,Sunway hotels and Sunway shopping malls in addition to practical gifts and goods.

Sunway continues to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism in its people by encouraging activeparticipation in aid efforts on top of cash and in-kind contributions.

Job Training Programme for Special StudentsIn 2000, the Kelas Khas or special education class was established in SMK Bandar Sunway for students withlearning disabilities which include disorders affecting learning such as Down syndrome, autism, hyperactivityand William’s syndrome.

In 2006, Sunway Group started assisting the Kelas Khas to enrich the lives of the special students. In the sameyear, GOLD (Generating Opportunities for the Learning Disabled), a non-profit organisation, began as a parents’support group in the school. Since then, Sunway Group has been supporting GOLD to help special studentsmaximise their potential and become contributing members of society.

These special students were also selected for the Sunway Job Training Programme for Special Students whichcommenced in February 2006 and is endorsed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia. The programme providesthe special students with job training and exposure thereby developing and equipping them with skills that theycan use for future employment. To date, some 100 students from various ethnic backgrounds have graduatedfrom the programme.

Smoke-Free EnvironmentIn November 2014, Sunway was awarded The Blue Ribbon Outstanding Achievement (AnugerahPencapaian Cemerlang) at the Blue Ribbon Campaign 2014. The Blue Ribbon Outstanding Achievement Award is a testament to individuals, groups, institutions, civil society partners, local governments and other stakeholders who advocate and mobilise support for smoke-free environments.

Sunway is also the first and only corporate citizen invited by Ministry of Health Malaysia to be included as a member of the Asia Pacific Child and Family Health Alliance for Tobacco Control. As a result of Sunway’s active involvement in many initiatives to support the Ministry of Health to drive the realisation for a smoke-free environment, Sunway was used as a role model on smoke-free initiatives by Ministry of Health officials during their study tour at Sunway Medical Centre and Monash University Malaysia.

Christmas Carnival And Charity Event

Sunway Property recently brought a Christmas Town Carnival to the recently completed Sunway GEO Avenue for Sunway Property PALS and children from charity homes, continuing its ongoing efforts of building living communities together with stakeholders during this season of sharing and giving.

The Sunway Property Christmas Town Festival welcomed an approximately 800 guests with rustic and vibrant Christmas décor, a carnival, as well as a range of games and activities for them to immerse in. All of them had fun in joining the Gingerbread workshop, scooping and filling their cups full with colorful sweets at the Candyland, clapping at carols and magician’s performances, while enjoying carnival’s games booth and different types of delicacies at the event.

The 2-day festival was held at the retail component of Sunway GEO adjacent to SunMed BRT station, strategically located within the integrated development of Sunway City, providing participants an exclusive well decorated venue to celebrate Christmas with beloved family and friends.

Children from five (5) welfare homes, namely Rumah Kanak-kanak Triniti, Chempaka Welfare Home, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Waja Home, Rumah Charis and Shepherd Orphanage Centre were specially invited by Sunway Property to have a fun night in a homely and pastoral ambience. Each of them took home a present sponsored by Sunway Property and Sunway Property PALS.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Earth Hour 2016Earth Hour is a worldwide movement that encourages people to protect the planet by switching off lights and participation in environmental friendly activities. It is a symbolic event to portray a strong message on the importance of protecting the planet, our home.

As show of support to this meaningful event, Sunway Property observed Earth Hour at its participating communities by switching off common area lightings and encouraged the residents to observe the similar by switching of non-essential lightings in their homes.

On top of that, residents were also thrilled by the ‘Best Earth Hour Moment’ contest organized by Sunway Property which entitled winners to dining vouchers at Dining in the Dark, Sunway University which is run by Dialogue in the Dark, a social enterprise which facilitates social inclusion of blind in our society. It also aims to give participants an experience of life without lights or vision. Find the “Best Earth Hour Moment” of the lucky winners below.

It was a really good experience! Realising the struggle of blind people and how much we depend on light! But those people can do everything on their own in complete darkness. They are strong and determined to not give up even if they were born or became blind. The determination of the blind people who i met there is absolutely amazing! They are so ambitious and always cheerful! They take it as a blessing and move further so as to achieve every goal they want! For my part during the dinner, iappreciated every single bite! I chew and eat slowly trying to get the flavours and guess what was the food! I think when we eat when there is light, we just put the food in our mouth and swallow, rarely appreciating the taste and flavours, Because we already know what food we are eating. In the dark, this changes! You learn to appreciate the taste and get to appreciate more the food you are eating! Overall i would definitely come back to do that experience again!

It was a totally new and exciting experience for me and i loved it. I have to sense the world around me without my sight. The best part of it was i can leave all the electronic devices behind and focus on our food while having conversation to real people.

7. Tell us how can we improve. More entertainment during dinnerFor some reason, i can still see some tiny light spot in the dining area.

Best Earth Hour Moment

My first Earth Hour was one of the most wonderful experiences I have ever witnessed. At 20.30pm, I was just there, standing by the balcony, twenty floors above the ground, watching all the city lights going off one by one until the city went dark. At that very moment, I realized that I was not alone. There were hundreds, thousands of people with the same desire; the desire for change. In this darkness, the stars seemed to shine brighter, and I asked myself, as from now, why not turn off the unwanted

It was back in 2014, we turn off the light right after the digital clock turn to 8:30. This is not like any other ordinary Earth Hour. We have great plan for this special 1 hour family time! We played a game called “guess the singer”. No surprise our children beat us in modern songs but we hold our ground in classical songs. We had great family time and to me, every moment spent with my family is the best moment.

Sunway Property organized the 1st movie of 2016 in Klang Valley exclusively for Sunway Property PALS on 25th March 2016 at TGV, Sunway Pyramid. Property PALS were treated to the most anticipated movie of the year -'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' and all tickets were snapped up in lightning speed. It was also our honourto host 28 children from Trinity Home and Shelter Home during this action-packed movie event.

SUNWAY MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL 2016

Sunway Property recently celebrated the yearly the mid-autumn festival with its

communities by hosting four celebrations in Sunway South Quay, Sunway Eastwood,

Sunway Montana and Sunway Iskandar. More than 2000 participants attended the

celebrations.

Participants who visited these galleries got to enjoy mooncake making workshops in

order to pass on the delightful tradition. The sessions saw many parents making

mooncakes with their children, and explaining to them the legend behind the Mid-

Autumn festival.

There were also live performances, as well as a spectacular 10-minute fireworks show,

made and released lanterns, and enjoyed the community spirit by feasting on mooncakes

together.
