S P Setia’s corporate responsibility focuses on the acronym ECO – Environment, Community andOrganisation.

EnvironmentIn every Setia development, greenery and public spaces are abundant, with importance given toproviding sustainable infrastructures for our communities. Our endeavour to meet internationalbenchmarks for green architecture and sustainable developments has gained recognition fromindustry authorities. Some of the recent green awards received are:

Green Building Index (Platinum) – S P Setia’s corporate office located in Setia Alam is only thethird building and the first private sector corporate office in Malaysia to be awarded this prestige.

BCA Green Mark (Gold) – KL Eco City’s Residential Tower 1 Malaysia's Top 30 Green Catalysts – awarded by the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation to

On the international front, the Battersea Power Station redevelopment project was conceptualized tobe a sustainable development, with the promised creation of an estimated 17,000 jobs for itssurrounding community upon completion. Besides that, the Battersea Power Station will have its ownon-site Learning Academy to provide training and accreditation for the community.

In terms of heritage conservation, every historically important element of the Power Station has beencatalogued and photographed to ensure the restoration is as precise as possible. The original bricksupplier has been contacted and commissioned to re-create identical bricks for the wall repairs whilethe ornate glass ceiling of the Control Room and ceramic tiles of the turbine halls are beingprofessionally repaired.

The development will be served by its own Energy Centre which will provide heating, hot water andcooling, thus saving 6,000 tonnes of CO2 per year in the process. The Energy Centre has also beendesigned so that it can serve neighbouring buildings in the Nine Elms as the Power Station did whenit was in operation. Vapour from the Energy Centre will be exhausted via two of the four chimneyswhen they have been rebuilt.

New habitats are also being created for the wide range of established wildlife, including a bespokenesting tower for he peregrine falcons.

At least 25,000 sq. metres of roofs will be green, brown or bio roofs. Across the development, therewill be a 20-acre of open space with special provision for wildlife such as foraging habitat wildflowerplanting.

In Melbourne, twelve 150-year-old elm trees were preserved on the development site of Parque,where two towers of apartment units in St Kilda Road are being constructed. This proves that Setia’sconservation and efforts to care for the environment is not only being practiced in Malaysia but alsoacross all of Setia’s project overseas.

S P Setia’s commitment to replicate its expertise in building eco developments outside of Malaysiahas also resulted in the conception of Eco Sanctuary in Singapore. Inspired by nature, thedevelopment’s design reflects the intricacies of a butterfly. The layout of the site traces themetamorphosis of the butterfly from the egg to the ‘papillon’. A first-of-its-kind butterfly trail,housing butterflies of various indigenous species amidst an ecosystem of trees, shrubs and flowers,will run the length of this verdant luxurious condominium.

Apart from that, the landscaping of the area is designed to integrate with the adjoining park and leadto a cycling and jogging trail. All these eco influenced features has earned Eco Sanctuary the GreenMark Platinum awarded by BCA. Other green features of the development includes rainwaterharvesting, drip irrigation with rain and motion sensors.

S P Setia’s two distinctive townships – EcoLakes & EcoXuan in Vietnam adopt the SetiaLiveLearnWorkPlay development philosophy where the townships cater to all these four pillars of lifein order to enjoy life to the fullest. From extensively landscaped town parks to lush landscapingsurrounding the townships and eco developments within the township, to regular communityactivities such as festive events, recycling activities and health and green workshops, S P Setia’sdevelopments are truly holistic from they were master-planned. EcoXuan dedicates only 44% of the10.84 hectares of this freehold development for residential use while 56% is reserved for public areasand green spaces.

Since 2008, S P Setia has been commemorating World Environment Day (WED) in order to createpublic awareness on major environmental issues.

The most recent WED activities by S P Setia saw the campaign, themed “Planting Positivity” beingbrought to schools within its townships in Selangor and Johor, at Tenby International School at SetiaEco Park and Tenby International School at Setia Eco Gardens.

A seed planting activity was held preceded by an interactive talk and fun quiz on natural resources,water and pollution, conducted by the Global Environment Centre, which S P Setia collaborated withfor the campaign launch. The event was aimed at educating students on the importance ofenvironmental conservation.

At the workshop, students were asked to make a pledge to play a simple role in their daily lives andhelp reduce their carbon footprint. To remind the youngsters of their pledge, they were given seedpledge packs where they had to plant the seedlings at their school’s garden. The main aim of thisactivity was to encourage the students to nurture their plants and care for its growth. Besides, it alsohelps remind them of the pledge they made to the environment.

S P Setia will continue on its quest to create greater awareness towards environment conservationthrough this yearly campaign.

CommunityIn an industry that revolves around brick and mortar, S P Setia is more than just abuilder. Wherever we set our footprints, we strive to connect with our communities,creating sustainable environments that enrich lives. Through S P Setia Foundation, thecorporate responsibility arm of S P Setia, we focus our efforts in education and aidingthose less fortunate. The Foundation, has to date raised over RM73 million from itsannual charity dinner to help underprivileged Malaysians while the Setia AdoptionProgramme provided assistance to over 2,400 students in Malaysia.

In 2015, the Foundation took its dedication to education to the next level with the launchof Setia Caring School Programme, which aims at cultivating and promoting the idea of a“caring” society among school students, teachers and parents of underperformingschools. The programme also seeks to instil good human virtues, strong moral valuesand a sense of nationalism among the future leaders of our nation.

The Foundation is also committed to promoting integration and national unity through

various initiatives. In this regard, the S P Setia Foundation undertakes numerous welfare

activities to reach out to the nation’s multi-racial communities in times of need.

Some of the activities undertaken by the Foundation under its Caring School programmeincludes:

• Caring for the environmentStudents of the Setia Caring School Programme’s adopted schools, namely SK MeruJalan Tap, SJK (T) Ladang Vallambrosa and SJK (C) Lee Min participated in a series ofrecycling and seedling planting activities on top of continuous workshops onimportance of caring for the environment to instil a caring nature within the studentstowards mother nature.

• Caring for your friendsActivities such as birthday celebrations, group activities and dance performances forSetia Foundation Charity Dinner inculcate a sense of camaraderie among students ofvarious age, races and religious background and teach them to respect each other.

• Caring for your teachersSelf-crafted personalized gifts for teachers during teachers’ day celebrationtaught the children to love and respect their teachers who work tirelessly toprovide them with solid education.

• Caring for the societyStudents from the Setia Caring School Programme’s adopted schools, alongwith teachers, parents and volunteers visited Rita Home in Kapar, Klang, tospread Deepavali festive cheer to the residents of the home. The studentsalso visited Pusat Jagaan Warga Emas LZS during Raya in the spirit ofRamadhan. Prior to visiting the homes, students gathered to pack festivegoodies and create personalised festive greeting cards for the residents ofthe homes.

Besides the above, other activities include caring for family and caring forpets.

Besides the Setia Caring School Programme, the Foundation also organised a join-graduationceremony for a total of 355 Year Six students from the Setia Caring School Programmeadopted schools, namely SK Meru Jalan Tap, SJK (C) Lee Min and SJK (T) LadangVallambrosa, who recently received their graduation certificates in a multi-racial jointgraduation ceremony organised for the first time at Setia City Convention Centre.

Themed “Celebrating Your Success: Fulfilling Dreams”, the headmaster, headmistress andteachers from three schools worked hand in hand to put together a heart-warming affair tocelebrate the achievement of the students before they bid goodbye to their alma mater.

Grounded by the belief that unity is vital to bring everyone together, collaborative efforts assuch by bringing multi-racial students together under one programme should be emulated atlarge to ensure continuous peace and unity of the country.

Besides the Foundation, S P Setia also gives back to the community via trained Setia AuxiliaryPolice to ensure safety at our townships. The Group also invested in infrastructures which willbenefit communities such as roads, shopping mall, commercial centres as well as promotingactivities themed around LiveLearnWorkPlay for residents – Setia Kids Club, WorldEnvironment Day, festive celebration with our communities and more.

OrganisationS P Setia continues to invest in our people and organisation as part of our CSR.Popularly known as Team Setia, the employees of S P Setia is well known for its unityand team spirit. Setia was recognised as Best of the Best Employer in Malaysia by AONHewitt in 2013 and one of the Best Employer in the same study in 2015. Besides, S PSetia was also recently named one of Malaysia’s Top 15 Leading Graduate Employer byGTI Media Asia and Trendence, Europe’s leading research institute.

One major highlight of Setia’s team spirit is the inclusiveness of the management andequality towards all employees regardless of income level and position. When Setiaprojects were launched overseas – in Vietnam, Australia, Singapore and the UK, allstaffs were given equal opportunities to visit overseas developments regardless of ranks.This creates long term bond between management and Team Setia. Honing talent, creativity and execution power of Team Setia will continue to be key tothe Group’s success. To this extent, human capital development is a high priority withthe Group spending 2% of total salary budgeted on trainings for continuous employeedevelopment. Team Setia is encouraged to attend training sessions, which are includedin their Key Performance Index (KPI). A comprehensive yearly training calendar focusingon various competencies such as strategic planning, property insights and businesscommunications is made available to all employees at the beginning of every year.

S P Setia also administers the People Pulse survey on a yearly basis, which providesvaluable insights into its people issues and engagement level. Information from thesurvey helps the company innovate initiatives which target the core of people issueswithin the organisation.

In our quest to drive a high performance work culture, S P Setia sets transparent and merit-based rewardsystems to drive engagement. One such reward system is the Long Term Incentive Plan (LTIP), which aimsat rewarding employees with company shares in addition to yearly performance bonus and increments.

One of S P Setia’s key mission is to provide superior customer service and satisfy customer needsthrough a culture of excellence. This include giving careful thoughts to the layout and design of ourWelcome Centres and sales galleries to the customer experiences after sales is made.

Thoughtfully planned sales galleries on site include customers’ comfort at the gallery, sufficientinformation and visual aid for customers as well as professional sales team to attend to customers’needs. For example, children’s play area is available at Setia’s sales gallery so that the children canoccupy themselves while the parents get peace of mind obtaining information about the property.

Besides, it is norm at S P Setia that our sales gallery is located on site, where the projects will be builtto ensure that customers are aware of the actual environment which they will be buying into.Infrastructure such as proper roads, vast landscaping, community parks, waterscapes, cycling andjogging paths are already in place prior to handing over of the first phase of the projects. We alsomonitor the infrastructure on an on-going basis to ensure they are well maintained.

Secondly, S P Setia has been continuously nurturing our communities in all our developments byengaging our residents in various activities that promote neighbourliness, cohesiveness andunderstanding among different cultures. Some of the activities were organised

One such success story is S P Setia’s annual festive open house where members of the public andresidents are invited to celebrate festive season such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya withTeam Setia. In 2015, Setia’s Open House held in Setia Welcome Centre, SPICE, Penang, Setia CityPark, Setia Alam, Setia Eco Glades, Setia Eco Glades, Cyberjaya, Setia EcoHill, Semenyih, SetiaEco Park, Setia Alam and Setia Eco Gardens, Johor drew thousands of visitors and residents aliketo the respective townships for a joyful as well as colourful and multi-cultural Chinese New Yearcelebration.

Another testament to the Setia brand is that we began nurturing our community spirit long beforewe launched our first product, for example at Setia EcoHill. Through a series of thoughtfullyplanned events and activities such as Sunday morning Green-xercise sessions, monthly Farmers’Market and Setia Kids’ Club workshops, quarterly health campaign and blood donation drive,purchasers and residents have fostered friendship before they moved into their new homes.

Lastly, besides community enhancement activities, S P Setia also provide customer services aboveand beyond the call of duty in our continuous pursuit of excellence in customer service. Besidesdiligent follow ups on customer feedback and request, assisting in legal advice as well as providingprofessional consultancy, it is also the small gestures which put customers mind at ease which createlasting impression among customers.

At Setia Eco Park, security guards will increase frequency of patrol at units where residents newlymoved in during the early stages of handover to ensure residents’ safety at all time. It is also atradition at S P Setia to celebrate the completion and handover of projects to our customers bythrowing them a dinner gathering or get-to-know-your-neighbours events.

On top of that, Setia Eco Park also made provisions for a dog park for residents’ convenience. The dogpark is located at Eucalyptus Garden, Setia Eco Park. This corner of Eucalyptus Garden has beencreated specially for man’s best friend, complete with an obstacle run, play pond and bathing area.Residents have voiced their appreciation towards having such value added facility within the vicinity oftheir neighbourhood.
