DeColores Janet & Galen – Rest Well, Good and Faithful Servants! As many of you are aware, Janet & Galen Potter are stepping down as Co-Chairs of CVCC. Please know that the CVCC is alive and well, and actively pursuing the best way to do the Lord’s work in these unprecedented times.

Future Weekends: In addition to the 2020 weekends being cancelled, we will not be holding our Women’s Weekend scheduled for February 2021 or the Men’s Weekend scheduled for April 2021. Frank at the Shalom House will be updated on our revised schedule. We will relook at the Women’s Weekend scheduled for July 2021 in October 2020. Ultreyas: Currently all in-person Ultreyas through September 2020 have been cancelled. Starting with the October 9, 2020 Ultreya at St. Paul’s we will plan on meeting in-person. Coordinators for the churches we currently have scheduled for October through December 2020 will be contacted to ensure that they are still available, and that a witness, spiritual director, and music are also available. In-person Ultreyas will also depend on parishes comfort level of hosting large groups, and the increased sanitation requirements involved in that 2021 Ultreyas will continue to be scheduled! Church representatives will be contacted to aid in setting up “Zoom Ultreyas” which may begin as early as August 14, 2020. If it is still not considered safe to meet as a group, we will revert to a Zoom Ultreya. The CVCC will determine the status of each Ultreya at least one month prior to the scheduled date. ZOOM: Robin Bandino will be our “Zoom Coordinator” and set up an account for CVCC. The Zoom account will be made available for Ultreyas, CVCC Meetings, and any Cursillo Training approved by the CVCC. In addition to this being the current substitute for Ultreyas, it may also be used as an aid specifically for Group Reunions unable to meet because of the pandemic or even for those wanting a Group Reunion that do not currently have one. Robin’s contact information is included in the list with the other CVCC members. Cursillo Community – We need to hear from you! How comfortable would you be in attending an in-person Ultreya? Also, how are your groups adapting to the pandemic? What prayer intentions do you have? Please contact any of the CVCC members below with your thoughts.

Congratulations to our most recent men’s and women’s candidates, who have graduated from Babe Chicks to Full-Fledged Cursillistas!

Message from the Co-Chairpersons:

Janet and I are resigning from the CVCC effective August 1, 2020.

After much prayer and discernment, we have chosen to pull back from some of our involvement in outside activities. We know that this may be unexpected and hard to explain, but it is what we need to do at this point.

We know that the Cursillo Movement here in Central Virginia will continue to thrive under the direction and leadership of the current committee.

Janet and I regret that we are not able to fulfill our obligation of three years and will miss the excitement and joy spending time meeting with all of you.

We will be available to hand off the duties and responsibilities once a new Chairperson is selected.

DeColores! Galen W. Potter and Janet Potter, CVCC Co-Chairs

(Feb. 2002 – Table of John) (Nov. 2005 – Table of Courage)

Message from the Spiritual Director: I’ll bet no one has ever said that the Cursillo Movement is like Baseball? Well, in some ways it is. Just this week, the major leagues began the start of an abbreviated season affected by the pandemic. Up to this point, baseball has been suspended just like our “major league” level event, a Cursillo Weekend. We had hoped to conduct a Cursillo Weekend this summer. We had a Rector, a team of great men all ready but Spring Training (Team Formation) was cancelled and soon after we had to cancel the season for 2020. Our other activities have also been limited just like the baseball minor leagues but hopefully our advanced scouts (that’s you) have continued to speak to future prospects about the ‘big show’ and maybe even invite them into your own Group Reunions. Our Ultreyas have been curtailed also but we hope to soon begin them again. On the positive side, many Group Reunions have been using ZOOM to meet regularly and in that we are trying to figure a plan by which we can gather in some way as a community to pray, hear how God is alive in the life of someone in the community, maybe have some workshops, and discuss when Weekends can resume. There is a lot of prayer and deep thinking going into maintaining the life of our Central Virginia Cursillo Center. Like the Gospel of this past Sunday (17th Sunday in Ordinary Time), we all recognize the Treasure of love that is the Cursillo Movement. It is truly a pearl of great price that we have found and we do not want to lose it. But it is a challenge. I believe most of us will recognize that the very essence of Cursillo, the knowledge that God loves us is communicated in the personal intimacy of the stories we tell and, in the willingness, to hug and touch. How do we sustain the Movement when social distancing and quarantines and the general fear of a potentially deadly invisible enemy is the new normal? But we will persevere. Just remember the story of those first Cursillistas on that famous bus trip across Spain to reach the Shrine of St. James at Santiago de Compostela. Mountains, rivers, storms and mechanical breakdowns did not deter them. So to all I say, Onward! Hopefully, we are at the seventh inning stretch. Pray that a vaccine will soon be available and that all remain safe till then. Till then, as an old Russian sailor’s proverb advises, Pray to God, but row for shore. God bless all, Stay well. Onward!
