In the darkest hour, the chickens are sleeping in the barn.

The barn is located in the middle of the farm, where Rudi is waiting for the sun to rise.

When the first signs of light appear, Rudi takes a deep breath.

When the tip of the sun appears, Rudi wakes the whole barn up with his calling.

After the break of dawn, the chickens go out to have breakfast. Rudi keeps an eye on them.

Whilst the farm was well fenced, Francis the Fox was looking for a nice meal.

Rudi knows that Francis is up to this old tricks, he has a plan in hand.

Francis got his bolt cutters to open up the wire fence.

As he got into the barn, it was all empty, not a chicken in sight. Then all of a sudden he heard “AIM! FIRE!”

Francis has egg all over his face. “Yuck, these eggs are rotten, just like Rudi.”

As Francis leaves the barn he falls into another trap.

Hours passed and then Rudi appears.

“Francis I will only let you go, if you promise never to touch my chickens again.” stated Rudi. Francis not having much of choice in the matter agreed, but only on one condition.

The condition agreed, was that Francis could eat all the eggs that he wanted to, so long as a chicken’s feather wasn’t touched.

Page 16: Rudi the Rooster

Now Francis protects chickens as they provide him with meals and shelter. Once a foe of Rudi, Francis is now a partner in protection.
