I love summertime in the mountains of Western NC, and especially here in the Franklin area. I have so many memories of growing up here, with the best of those memories taking place during the summer months. Whether it was trips up the mountain to

Standing Indian Campground, afternoon swims in the Cullasaja River, or just hanging out with friends

around town, summer was always the most enjoyable time of the year for me.

The highlight of summer was (and still is) gathering at the Macon County Recreation Park for the July

4th festivities and the firework display. This is a true display of the best in small-town mountain living,

with different folks throughout the community coming together for a day of celebration. Food, games,

entertainment, and more fill the day with fun!

They are hosting their 1st Annual ‘Macon Waves Ducky Derby’ this summer at ‘Big Bear Park’ on the Greenway with hopes to raise awareness and funds to give back. FYP will be partnering with the ‘NC Big Sweep’ initiative and the ‘Land Trust for the Little Tennessee’ for an early morning clean-up of the Little Tennessee River, as part of the first phase of this event. At Noon, FYP will be having a cookout, hosting games and the Ducky Derby to raise money for their scholarship fund and a Little Tennessee River Greenway donation.
