This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilisation of over 70 million people and left between 9 and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known grave. The allied nations, of which Australia is one, chose this day and time for the commemoration of their war dead. Soirée Evening - Tomorrow

We are once again looking forward to our grade 3-6 Musical Soirée evening. The musical talents of our students

will be showcased for our community and once again it promises to be a fantastic night.

See you there.

Student Input into 2016 Class Placements

Over the next few weeks we will be beginning to formulate classes for 2016. In the past, this process has in-

volved student input which has come to be known as ‘friend requests’. The formulation of classes is a very diffi-

cult process for schools as we balance out the learning needs of every individual student whilst also keeping an

eye on the bigger picture of balancing out the classes and the range of individuals that make up each classroom.

Teachers have intimate knowledge of our students and the needs and best interests of them as learners, both on

an individual level and whole class level.

Students will again be given the opportunity to provide us with input about who they believe they work well

with and think they would benefit from being in a class with next year but please be aware that this input is not

the most important part of the decision making process and it may be that none of the people they suggest are

in their class for 2016. Social development needs will be filtered through the knowledge and expertise of our

teachers. Whilst not all students will be ‘friends’, all students are expected to be ‘friendly’ towards each other

and student relationships change and develop often in short time frames.

40km Zone on Mount Dandenong Tourist Road

After lobbying our local politicians for a number of years we were finally successful in gaining a promise from

James Merlino MP to install a 40km per hour zone (during pick up and drop off hours) on the Tourist Road be-

tween Wombat Road and the sweeping bend towards the Mt D kinder. True to his promise the works have

started and we are hoping for them to be completed soon. We are excited about the prospect of a safer traffic

zone for our community.

Remembrance Day

At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous

warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over

the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to

secure a peace settlement. They accepted the allied terms of unconditional surrender.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The mo-

ment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of

those who had died in the war. This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilisation of over 70

million people and left between 9 and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known

grave. The allied nations, of which Australia is one, chose this day and time for the commemoration of their war

dead. Many Australians were involved in the First World War and have been involved in other wars and armed

conflicts since that time.

This year 11 November marks the 97th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War. Each

year on this day Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in

all wars and armed conflicts.

At school we will commemorate this by observing one minutes silence at 11am.

We have been chosen from a long list of hopefuls by the team at Bunnings to fill an unexpected vacancy in their BBQ roster on Sunday,

15th November. This is a great opportunity to add to our fundraising

who flock to Bunnings.

So we are looking for helpers please on

Sunday, 15th November at the Bayswater store.

If you are able to help on the day and fill in the roster below, please

see Julie in the office.

If you are unable to be there on the day but would still like to help, we

also need donations of the following:

Food handling gloves, hand soap, tomato sauce, BBQ sauce, mustard,

serviettes, foil trays, paper towel, rubbish bags, alfoil and washing up
