Father’s Day We hope that all of the dads and special male friends and role models in our community had an excellent Fa- ther’s Day. Grade 3/4 Excursion to Mont de Lancey Last Thursday, I spent the day along with a number of staff and parent helpers on the grade 3/4 excursion to Mont de Lancey. We travelled back in time to an 1800’s homestead in the Yarra Valley. The students were able to see a black smith in action, look at some old farm machinery, visit the museum, an old church and tour the original homestead. They also cooked damper, played old fashioned games, attended a school house and made peg dolls. All in all it was a great way to support the learning that has been taking place in the classrooms. Afterwards we received a phone call from the staff at Mont de Lancey, to commend us on the beautiful behav- iour of our students which made us all extremely proud. Thank you so much to the staff for organising this excellent experience and to the many parent volunteers who attended with us. Thursday 22nd October 2015 Our Art Show is in its fourth year. The students have worked with members of our local commu-nity and parents to create some wonderful pieces for the exhibition. We hope all families can make it along to what should be a fabulous show.

Can you donate a trolley item?

This year we are asking parents if they can help out by donating a shopping trolley item to add to the raffle, which is drawn after the art show. The raffle prizes are typ-ically items like; pencils, paints, brushes, felt pens, canvases, craft goods or any other art related item you can come up with. In supporting the raffle you help to ensure the ongoing success of the wonderful art program at our school. Donations can be left at the office. Many thanks for your contribution. Michelle and Liz

with Keith as he learns that there is only so much he can do about his parents’ happiness and that sometimes

change is inevitable.

Recording of “Worry Warts”

The school would love to have available for parents a

DVD of the upcoming “Worry Warts” presentation.

We are therefore asking any parents with the capabil-

ity of recording a performance to please contact the

office or the SLU.

Would you be interested in an annual DVD of school memories?

The school’s fundraising committee are exploring the idea of putting

together an annual DVD of memories that parents can purchase. It

might include footage of assemblies, productions, concerts and other

special events. A wonderful memento capturing the past year.

Our first step is to work out the feasibility and costs that might be

involved. So we are reaching out to the school community to ask if

anyone knows of a videographer or someone with a keen interest in

filming, that might be interested in helping us with this idea.

If you know of anyone… please ask them to contact

Megan on 0418 331 743. No obligation, we just want to start the

conversation and see if this idea has value!

As part of our Health Unit, we have much pleasure in presenting a special

screening of

“That Sugar Film”

on Monday 5th October, 6pm in the Multi Purpose Room

THAT SUGAR FILM is one man’s journey to discover the bitter truth about sugar. Damon Gameau embarks on a unique experiment to document the effects of a high sugar diet on a healthy body,

consuming only foods that are commonly perceived as ‘healthy’. Through this entertaining and in-formative journey, Damon highlights some of the issues that plague the sugar industry, and where

sugar lurks on supermarket shelves. THAT SUGAR FILM will forever change the way you think about ‘healthy’ food.

THAT SUGAR FILM investi-gates how much sugar we are consuming, and what impact it is having on us. It explores the truth about what many Australi-ans consider to be healthy foods. Damon undertook a high sugar diet, consistent with that of an Australian teenager, and moni-tored the effects it had on his body – they were shocking. That Sugar Film is an enlighten-ing but entertaining look at sug-ar in our diet, on our supermar-ket shelves, and as an industry. It presents an argument for a diet which includes less sugar, but does not demand that eve-ryone quits it entirely. In addition to its prevalence in the common Australian diet, Da-mon also investigated sugars impact on indigenous communi-ties, and it’s extreme preva-lence in parts of the United States. Entry cost; gold coin donation
