Water Leak Causes Mayhem for Grade 3/4
I’d like to thank the staff and students in the grade 3/4 area and in particular grade 3/4L for their patience, flexi-
bility and understanding. Unfortunately we had a major water leak in the classroom that was caused by a rup-
tured pipe that was under a thick concrete slab. As a result both 3/4 classes have had to move out of their
rooms and also put up with some noise from fans and machinery. Both students and staff have done this without
complaint and I thank them for that.
The leak has now been located and repaired with some rectification works still to take place and hopefully as of
today 3/4L are back in their own classroom.
I’d also like to thank and recommend Victor Lazdins from Gush and Gutter Plumbing who dropped everything to
help us, including spending extra hours in the evening and on the weekend so that we could be up and running as
soon as possible.
Busking Night – Wednesday 29th July, 5.30pm – 7.30pm
Our annual Busking Night takes place this Wednesday and is a highlight of the school year. Each student who
performs has chosen to do so and we are always proud of them for having a go. Even if your children are not
participating we’d love you to bring them along to support their classmates and celebrate our great Performing
Arts program.
Please bring some coins along to show your appreciation for the artists. All proceeds will be used to further
support our Music program.
Junior School Swimming
Our prep to 2 swimming program started yesterday and it is great to see so many students taking this important
opportunity to develop their swimming abilities. Being able to swim is a very important life skill, particularly in
Australia where we have a cultural lifestyle that involves many water based leisure activities and sports.
Extra Curricula Events and Activities
We can sometimes undervalue and take for granted both school and staff efforts in providing extra opportunities
for the children at Mt Dandenong PS. I wish to acknowledge those who organise and deliver the many additional
extracurricular activities for our students. Here is a list of these activities -
Sporting events – Visiting sporting clinics provided by various sporting bodies, House Cross Country,
District Athletics and Cross Country events, summer and winter sports, Hooptime basketball, swimming
programs etc.
Instrumental Music lessons
Book Week activities – Book parade and the assembly.
Mother’s and Father’s Day stall
Junior School Council meetings and fundraising events
Biennial Wakakirri dance event
The Prep / Grade 6 Buddy activities
Thinking Outside the Box, Gifted and Talented Program
Chess Club
Special educational visits from the CFA
Our camping programs, etc.
Art show and visiting artists
Soirée evening, busking nights, external music events
Grade 6 production and graduation
Friday assemblies
Presentation night
Incursions and excursions
I am sure that there are some events that I have forgotten to mention
and sometimes events present themselves but are unplanned for.

purchased a ticket but would like
another, please come to the of-
fice. Several families who have chil-

buy tickets and we would en-
courage them to let the office
know at their earliest conven-

be hoping to attend next
Wednesday’s performance at

Staff Car Park Request
We kindly request that parents do not park in the staff car park or on the car park crossover please. Our staff need to have parking spaces available
to them and need to be able to enter and exit the staff car park at all stages of the school day.
It is also requested that due to safety concerns students and families do not walk through the staff car park for any reason.
Thank you for your understanding.
Conference Attendance
This week Anni Smart and I are attending the Knox and Dandenong Ranges Principal’s Conference. The theme of this conference is Precision Teach-
ing. We will be working towards developing a network approach to ensuring that each teacher has the tools, professional learning and opportunity
to refine their teaching practice even further to give every student, every opportunity.
During the three days of the conference, Mrs Liz Kennedy will be the teacher in charge at school. Please contact Liz if you have any concerns (or
compliments).
Pyjama Day Wakakirri Fundraiser
Thanks to the gold coin donations, last Friday, from our warm and snuggly pyjama wearing students and staff we raised $192.00. This will be used to
purchase makeup for our upcoming Wakakirri performance.
Thank you for your generous support.
Help Shape the Education State
The most important thing that we can do as a school community is to make sure we give each and every student a great education and a great start to life.
I know from speaking to many of you that you have great ideas for how we can improve the education we provide our students at Mount Dan-
denong Primary School and more broadly how we can improve our school system as a whole.
I also regularly hear ideas from our staff, our school council, and others in the community on how we can make our education system even better.
The Victorian Government has committed to making Victoria the Education State and has recently begun a consultation process – asking for us to
share our ideas and experiences, our challenges and solutions – to help us improve our education system across the state.
This is an opportunity for all of us to have our say and play a role in shaping what our education system will look like in the years to come.
I would encourage you to go to educationstate.education.vic.gov.au where you can join in the online conversations or read the Consultation Papers
that are available.
As always, I invite you to share your ideas with me on what is working well and what we can do better.
Home/School Communication
As a school we are dedicated to effective and productive communications with our families – a reason why all class teachers are available and can be
found in their classroom between 8:50 – 9:00am each morning before commencing instruction. Please be sure to chat with your child’s teacher and
organise a meeting time (if required) to discuss any concerns or compliments that you might have.
Likewise, as Principal, I remind everyone that you have an open invitation to approach me at any time if you have an issue of concern about the
school or an idea to discuss. Please don’t let any concerns go “underground” or allow the issues of others to become “hearsay”.
Thumbs Up To:
Victor Lazdins, plumber extraordinaire!
Our Grade 3/4 team for their understanding with our flooding issue
Staff, students and parents for successful three way interviews.
The staff who have volunteered to offer support and help by attending the busking night.
Thank you, Mike Leonard.

OSHClub News Before School / After School Care Program
This week in OSH we became creators, bringing our imaginations to life.
From playdough creatures, Hama bead scenes, recycled robots and dress ups we created so many different experiences!
We really challenged ourselves in creating something truly spectacular. Trying new techniques and working with peers to
collaborate ideas.
Here we have a beautiful wool doll one of the children spent hours making! It looks fantastic.
Next week we are having an ‘All about me week’.
We will be representing ourselves in posters, portraits and dolls.
So come along and join in the fun!!

Calling all Families
It is hard to believe our annual Art Show is now in its fourth year! We have been fortunate enough to be able to engage with the local community through our Art program by inviting in friends and relatives of students who have a skill they would like to share. In Term 3 students create artworks based on these newly acquired skills and the pieces are exhibited at our Art Show in October. The links to the broader community are priceless to the learning and engage-ment provided to students. Parents are always welcome to attend any of these sessions to see first-hand how students develop their work. Times will be ad-vised in the upcoming Art Show newsletters. If you have a Mum, Dad, Aunty, Grandpa or anyone in your family who has a particular creative passion or a skill they might like to share, then we would love to hear from them.
Please email [email protected] or speak with Liz Kennedy in the Art room. We look forward to lots of making, creating and sharing with those you know and love. Hope to see you in the Art room. Michelle Lawrence and Liz Kennedy
Art News In Term 3 we will be making paper
with the Preps. We would appreciate
donations of TISSUE PAPER (any
colour).
If you have any paper making equip-
ment or you are interested in work-
ing with a group of parents on this
activity please let me know or leave a
message at the office.
The students in Grades 5/6 are cur-
rently working with wire, making
wire sculptures and mobiles. We
would appreciate donations of wire
coat hangers, fine gauge wire (any
colour) and pliers for cutting, bend-
ing and twisting the wire.
Any donations can be left on the ta-
ble outside the Art room.
Thank you, we appreciate your sup-
port.
