Our Lord died for women just like he did for men. During Jesus earthly ministry he was particularly close to the sisters, Martha and Mary, and to one named Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons (Luke 8:2) and who was the first at the tomb of the risen Savior (Mat. 28:1). The Knight Arnold/Forest Hill church has been blessed with many devoted women who have helped mold and shape this congregation. Some, like Jewel Earls, have been a dedicated part of our office staff. This dear sister served as our church secretary for over 40 years at both the Knight Arnold and Forest Hill locations. Sister Earls was born in Culleoka, Tennessee in 1935. Situated in the rolling hills of middle Tennessee, this beautiful farmland is located just south of Columbia and west of Lewisburg. Sister Earls was understandably proud of her roots. As a child, she had the opportunity to hear many gospel preachers, and was baptized in 1947 by the late, great N.B. Hardeman. In 1956, Jewel married Malcolm Earls. A few years after they were married, the couple moved to Memphis. Three children were born to this union. The firstborn, a daughter, was named Toreda. Six years later twin girls were born, Tracey and Stacey. It was during this time that Sister Earls placed her membership with the Knight Arnold congregation. Though Malcolm was not a member of the church he never hindered Jewel and the girls from attending worship. As the congregation grew, a full time secretary was needed. The elders, with the blessing of evangelist E.L. Whitaker, selected sister Earls. She remained in this capacity until her retirement in the mid 2000s. Not only did sister Earls work in the church office, but she labored in other areas of congregational work. While her children were coming of age she regularly helped chaperone retreats and campaigns. She was a Bible class teacher of children, as well. As one who worked alongside her for many years, I can attest to her faithful Christian life and devotion to duty. She knew the history of the congregation and the makeup of the congregation as well as anyone. This greatly assisted me when I became the associate minister in 1992. After I returned as pulpit preacher in 2000, sister Earls continued to be a helpful assistant, as she and I worked together in the various tasks assigned to the church office. Sister Earls suffered from declining health during the last few years. After a massive stroke on Friday, February 16, she passed from this life the following day at the age of 82. Her funeral service was conducted Friday, February 23 at the Forest Hill building. David Looney and this writer had the honor of preaching her funeral service. David Foster, former Knight Arnold song director and nephew of sister Earls, led the congregational singing. Forest Hill deacon and special family friend, Buster Rogers, led a prayer. Please continue to pray for her daughters and their families as they adjust their lives without this sweet mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. May all of us left behind pattern our lives, as did Sister Earls, that we may hear the Lord say, “Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Mat. 25:34). SILVER HEARTS BANQUET 2018

The Annual Silver Hearts Banquet was held Saturday, February 24, 2018. This year’s banquet hosted a carnival theme with games, prizes, entertainment, food, and fun! On behalf of myself, Matthew Jones, and our youth interns: Garrett Olney and Hatton Allen, we would like to thank all of those that helped with prep work, set up, clean up, cooking, and games. This event would not be possible without a lot of helping hands. For many, it is one of the favorite events of the year. This is an opportunity for the youth to show their love and appreciation for our senior members. We are very grateful to our senior members that support our youth by attending this event.
