Term 3 - Week 8 Wednesday 11 September, 2019
Calendar - Term 3 - 2019
From the Principal’s Desk
I hope all of our dads had a magnificent Father's
Day, spending some quality time with family and
being spoilt. Thank you very much to the P and C
for providing a wonderful Father's Day Stall for our
community.
Book Week ends with a bang. What an
outstanding day Friday before last when we
celebrated Book Week with our Book Parade. The
costumes were amazing, as usual and I would like
to thank the parents for their enthusiasm and time
for this much-loved event. The smiles tell the story,
the kids had a ball! It was topped off by some very
impressive dioramas where students designed
their ultimate reading space. The students also
loved Welly’s Wonders and thanks to Adam and
Demelza for your fabulous presentation. Thanks to
our Mrs Birchall who always goes above and
beyond with promoting a lifelong love of books.
Kiss and Drop Zone in Balgownie Road. There are
many parents I could thank for their common
sense approach to using the Kiss and Drop Zone. I
would particularly like to thank those drivers who
see the zone full and go around the block. One
aspect I would like to improve is the length of time
cars are waiting in the zone. There are only 4
spaces and the time limit for using this zone is 2
minutes. I have seen cars pull up in the zone
before the bell and wait there for up to 10 minutes
for their child to come out. This will result in a $200
fine by the rangers if they come by. If you pull up
in the zone and your child is not there within 2
minutes, please do a lap around the block and
free the space up for other cars. Thanks to you all
who do the right thing for all of our kids.
Playground celebrates its 4th birthday. This time 4
years ago we were excitedly watching the
installation of our play equipment and climbing
wall. It is timely to celebrate the enthusiasm of our
community as we launch the draft of our new five
year grounds plan. This has been put together
after consultation with students, parents and staff.
Have a look and let me know what you think? We
will be discussing it at the P&C meeting this
Wednesday evening in the library starting at
7.15pm.
The last plan has been very successful and we
realised so many of the goals we set out to
achieve in 2012. See attached for the new plan
and for celebrating the old one.

Southern Stars In Week 5 our Stage 3 dance troupe performed at
Southern Stars. This year’s theme was ‘Come
Alive’. Students performed 4 dances: Nine to Five,
Come Alive, a medley of When Love Takes
Over/Born This Way/Tonight Again, and they also
combined with the High School Performing
Company for Nothing Holding Me Back. Our
students worked hard in the lead up to the shows
and had a wonderful time performing for their
classmates, family and friends.
Sport Report
Girls Touch Football On Monday 9th September, our Senior Girls’ Touch
Football team played the 4th Round of the PSSA

well together as a team. Our next game is on
Wednesday against Shell Cove Public School. A
special thanks to Mr Masters for reffing our last 2
games.

Double Deal - Helping your
school & the environment! You probably know about
Return & Earn? What you
may not know is that you can
contribute Return & Earn
money to Balgownie Public School! Return & Earn
works for those small single serve plastic bottles
(eg. gatorade), cans or glass bottles. Milk cartons
or big juice cartons etc are not accepted. You
can recycle them in your yellow bin at home.
Where is Return & Earn located? The automatic
deposit machine is located at the back of the
Fraternity Club in Fairy Meadow. When you get to
the Return & Earn collection point, simply scan the
barcode below and start feeding your bottles
down the chute. This money is then sent to the P &
C's PayPal account which will help us raise money
throughout the year. Every little bit helps and your
children are always the recipients of material
bought with the money raised for the school. Of
course recycling in any way is better than it going
to landfill, so you can involve your children in
Return & Earn where they can earn some pocket
money, or you can choose to donate it to one of
the charities or organisations listed.
Happy bottle & can collecting!
