Hello! Dear Parents, Tēnā koutou katoa, Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou. Ko Lisl Prendergast taku ingoa. Nō te papakainga ō Te Awangawanga o Hawea au.

A warm greeting to you all. I am Lisl Prendergast your interim Principal for the rest of Term 2 and maybe a little of Term 3 depending on the appointment process for your new Principal. In writing this I am in my

fifth day in the job and I am really enjoying the children and the warm response I have had from the staff. You have a terrific school here and it is well resourced. We can all look to a bright future.

I am a retired Secondary Principal and hope to run a happy ship until your new Principal arrives. I have had terrific support from the teachers which is really important for me as I don’t claim to be an expert in the

Primary Curriculum. I have been happily teaching though and have already done some music, enquiry learning about our marae visit etc. I also saw our soccer teams last Saturday morning and I was very impressed. There are quite a few grandmothers I went to school with which is fun and nice to catch up. I grew up in

the Bay and I was Assistant Principal at Hastings Girls High School for 13 years too.

Our visit to Omahu marae on Friday went very well. A big thanks to Rocky for all the time he gave up to show us around and tell us some of the kōrero pūrākau etc. Thank you also to the kaumatua of Omahu. It is

a very beautiful wharenui and dining hall and the students learnt a lot.

We have the Fire Department coming to do a special fire safety programme with our students in July. It is a very good programme and covers the whole school.

A reminder that we have the parent – teacher interviews coming up, these are on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd June. School finishes at 1:45pm and conferences start at 2pm. They will go to 7pm on

Wednesday and 5:15pm on Thursday. You can book a time online. I look forward to seeing you there and meeting as many of you as possible.

We are also looking forward to the petrol heads visit on Friday 24th June. This is a very innovative fundraiser for the school.

Finally, I would just reassure you that I am a very approachable person so if you have any concerns or queries or you just want to call in and say hello please do so. It is a privilege to be a member of your school

community and I will work hard to ensure a very sound hand-over to your new Principal. Nō reira, noho ora mai
