WET PLATE COLLODION

• I think this is a good description of how wet plate collodion photography works.

• This was a little bit of a faster and easier way to develop photos.

• Wet Plate was also cheaper way to photograph.

• Frederick Scott Archer, in 1851, created wet plate by “spreading a mixture of collodion (nitrated cotton dissolved in ether and alcohol) and chemicals on sheets of glass.” according to History of Phytophagy.

DRY PLATE • This is an image of a camera that takes

dry plate photos. Also seen is the dry plates themselves with no print on them.

• According to History of Photography, in 1871, “Richard Leach Maddox, an English doctor, proposes the use of an emulsion of gelatin and silver bromide on a glass plate, the "dry plate" process.”

• Dry Plate developing, unlike wet plate developing, could wait to be developed. It does not have to be developed right away. -This was an advantage for photojournalist because they

can take their time with developing it, and so they are able to see their work longer before it was developed.

BLACK & WHITE FILM ROLL• This photo is an image of black and

white film roll with images on them.• According to History of

Photography, “[In]1906, Availability of panchromatic black and white film and therefore high quality color separation color photography” -This was great for photojournalist by they did not have to stop after every picture they took, to take out a plate and were able take multiple photos at a time. BLACK & WHITE NEGATIVES

• Black and White Negative let photojournalist see their images they had captured.

• For todays photojournalist, using black and white helps capture details with shadows and lighting.

• It also makes it look like history.

SPEED-GRAPHIC• This is an image of a Speed-Graphic

camera. This camera was usually used for weddings and portraits.

• This camera was also used to take photos of moving objects and would not be blurred.

• This was nice for photojournalists who are taking photos of animals, races, moving people, etc.

DIGITAL CAMERAS & MEMORY CHIPS

• This is an image of different types of digital cameras. Also seen is memory chips to put in the camera to keep photos on.

• This was a huge impact for photojournalist because it is easier to develop photos off digital cameras. They can now use wireless transmitters to send to different places. And also they can see the photo they just took on a screen in front of them and delete it if they wish.
