It's pretty clear that the agro-industrial complex is just as

vulnerable and brittle as the too-big-to-fail banks. So

figuring out what comes next - how to grow the food the

world needs to eat in a way that actually can last far into

the future - is an essential task. SHI is on the front lines,

and in the places that really matter."

eliminate smoke in the home.Smoke inhalation from open cookingfiresis equivalent to smoking fivepacks of cigarettes a day!

Inthe villages where SHI works, more than 75% of families never had access togarden vegetables. We provide seeds, training and support to families desperate togrow food to sustain themselves. Now, more than 90% of families working withSHI have organic vegetable gardens, and children are getting the importantnutrients they need.

SHI Strategies for Success We work only with people who have requested

technical assistance to adopt sustainablefarming practices.

We encourage participants to decide which newmethods will work best for them, instead of using

    a cookie-cutter approach.

We partner with local institutions and hire localexperts to work with program participants.

We provide regular, long-term assistance untilparticipants are comfortable using the newtechniques on their own.
