STEP TO FOLLOW FOR INSERTING A PICTURE INTO A WORD DOCUMENT

1) Open the Resume Example that I previously provided. You will find it on the class website today 02_18_2009. Place your Insertion Point on the first Paragraph Marker after the Header by clicking on the first line in the document area. Turn on your show/hide paragraph markers if you don’t have them on.

2) Inserting the Picture- Go to the Insert Tab on the Ribbon and go to the Illustrations Group(3rd Group). Click on the Pictures Command Icon. (This will open the Insert Picture Dialog Box).

3) Now look in the J:Drive- then the Luis Carias Eve Folder then the Datafiles Folder then Picture Folder Click on my Picture then click on Insert.

a. If you can’t find the picture in the dialog box go to the top right hand corner of the Insert Picture Dialog Box and change the view to thumbnails then scroll down to find the picture.

4) The picture is now on the first line of the resume and you have to readjust the size, layout, position, and border outlines. Let’s start with the size.

5) Size Adjustments/Cropping- Click inside the picture – like for example on the nose. Now the Contextual Tab named (Picture Tools Format) will appear. Click on Format and then go to the size group. It is the last group.

6) Click on the launcher in the size group and this will open the Format Picture Dialog Box with the Size tab selected. There are two ways to change the size.

a. You can change the size by decreasing or increasing the height or width scale.Notice that the height and width dimensions both decrease by the same amount.

i. Practice by decreasing the scale width to 15%, then undo this step.

b. You can also change the size by deselecting the lock aspect ratio box and

then changing the absolute value size for the height or width. (This is good when you want the picture to be in a perfect square.)

i. Practice by deselecting the lock aspect ratio box and then decreasing both the absolute height and width to 1.5 inches each. Do not undo this step.

c. Cropping simply cuts off a piece of the picture that you don’t want to appear in the final picture.

7) Layout Adjustments- Now we need to change the layout. Click inside the picture again. Go to the Format Picture Dialog Box Launcher again found in the Size Group to open the Dialog Box. Now click on the Layout Tab.

a. There are five wrapping styles. List them below.i. ii. iii. iv. v.

8) Choose the Behind Text Wrapping Style. Then click ok. Can you see what happens? Why do you think this is an important layout wrapping style to choose?

9) Position Adjustments- Now change the position of the document. Go back to the Format Picture Dialog Box again. But remember you need to first click in the picture. The picture is behind text now but you will know you are clicking in the picture because your pointer changes to a four arrows pointer and after clicking all the corner points of the picture will have dots. Also look for the Contextual Tab to appear.

10)Now go again to the Layout Tab inside of the Format Picture Dialog Box. Click on the Advanced button at the bottom.

11)In the picture position section choose the horizontal alignment to be on the RIGHT relative to the PAGE.

12)In the picture position section choose the vertical alignment to be on the TOP relative to the PAGE. Click OK then Click OK again.

13)You can change to other position alignments and locations to practice and see where the picture gets moved but in the end leave it in the top right hand corner.

14)Border Adjustments- Now change the borders of the picture. In the Borders group you can change the border color and weight right on the ribbon or from the Dialog Box

15)If you access the Format Picture Dialog Box launcher in the Borders Group from the ribbon and adjust the borders color, style/weight and dash in the Dialog Box remember to click ok so that the changes are applied.

16)NOW YOU ARE DONE WITH THE PRACTICE EXERCISE! NOW WASN’T THAT EASY?

Please do the same now with your picture in your Resume!
