American Football in Britain• The national governing body of American Football in Britain is called the ‘British American Football

Association’ (BAFA).• BAFA runs the British American Football League (BAFL).• BAFL Flag consists of 2 leagues, the English league, and the Scottish league.• The Scottish League consisted of 10 teams in 2008, and 7 teams in 2009.• Average BAFA/BAFL registration price is £35 per player per year.• The BAFL league runs from April to August, with Finals held in the first weekend of September.

Flag Football is a non-contact version of American Football, developed by the NFL, to encourage players to take up the sport. The game is played 5-a-side and teaches the fundamentals of American Football at grassroots level. There are many advantages to this game, here are a few:

• Non-contact - no blocking or tackling. A player is "tackled" when an opponent removes his or her flag.

• No expensive kit required - all a player needs is a pair of football boots / trainers. Flag belts and footballs are all supplied.

Flag Football is promoted as a fun game, played in good spirit with sportsmanship and camaraderie.

2

Former Fife 49ers kitted players Neil Arnold and Stevie Bramwell formed the Kirkcaldy Bulls in July 2002, re-establishing American Football in Fife after a 6 year absence.

2003 saw the formation of both Youth and Adult squads with great success as both squads won the Scottish (SFFA) Championships in their respective age categories, which they then both went on to successfully retain in 2004.

The club progressed as a Adult-only team after 2004 and we have now retained the Scottish Championship title for the last 7 consecutive years.

2008 saw the formation of the first ever official British American Football League (BAFL) for Flag Football, and the Bulls have successfully won back to back British championships in 2008 and 2009, doing so by remaining unbeaten in 34 games.

We are the only British club to play regular football against European opposition, having twice competed in Flag Oceane (the largest flag football tournament in Europe, held in Le Havre France), and finishing in the top 5 on both occasions. Additionally we have organised and ran a local tournament in Fife called the ‘Bull Run’ in 2008 and 2009, and were successful in attracting teams from England, Germany and Italy.

The Bulls are looked upon in the Flag Football community as one of the most disciplined and well organised Flag team in Britain, and are well known and respected not only in Britain, but also in Europe.

Our record shows that we are the most successful Flag Football team in British history, with 115 wins and only 15 losses in our 7 year history*, which becomes an even more impressive feat when you consider that we have competed all over Britain, attended 2 tournaments in France, and hosted 2 European tournaments ourselves.

Each year becomes more competitive and 2010 will be no different as the opposition becomes more experienced and more talented players join the game.

Alongside the ‘on-field’ activities there are financial constraints that we have to overcome to remain a successful club.

Listed below are the main objectives for our club for 2010:

• Financial stability to allow players to focus on playing the game.• Finish in the top 2 teams in Scotland, which will allow us to defend our British Championship.• Attend the BAFL Finals in Doncaster.• Finish in the top 2 teams in the ‘Superbowl Weekend’ tournament in February.• Attend at least one European event, either the ‘Champions Bowl IV’ in Rome Italy or ‘Flag Oceane’

in Le Havre France.• Investigate the potential to host the Bull Run 3 in Fife, and to secure attendance by a European

team.• Support players selected to play for GB in 2010 World Flag Championships.• Support players selected to play for Team Scotland in the Tri-Nations tournament.• Run up to 3 fundraising ‘Poker Day’ events during 2010.

Otherkirkcaldybulls.com current receives over 3500 visits (17K hits) per month and our new Faccebook fan page currently has around 120 fans*Bulls have given their time freely to provide instructional demonstrations on Flag Football to support local events such as:• The Beveridge Park festival – 2 years the Bulls attended to provide demonstrations on the game• Family Learning Day run by Kirkcaldy High School at Fair Isle Primary School – open day where the public could join in and try some basic drills• East Neuk Centre – Bulls ran 2 sessions of drills and friendly games for teenagers with learning difficulties

ConclusionAlthough the above cannot be quantified in pound sterling, it can be easily seen that the exposure of the Kirkcaldy Bulls is far reaching with regular frequency.Also to be taken into account is word of mouth, opponent press releases in their local papers, an ever increasing fan base, and league awareness.

• The Club has a unique advantage in that it is performing different and new activities from its rivals, and also other sports in the area. The timing of the league season fits well within the local sporting calendar, which creates a unique advantage in attracting the supporters from other local teams to provide a year round calendar of local supporting events.

• The timing of the Clubs season will also allow local businesses who want to support the club the chance to have a presence throughout the year on a local level to ensure their message is carried to supporters consistently through the year.

The Bulls are looking to supplement their own fundraising activities and annual players subs by offering a number of sponsorship packages:

Champions Bowl IV Sponsor / Flag Oceane

The Bulls are looking to attend the Champions Bowl IV which will be held in Rome during July 2010. This tournament represents the highest level of domestic football that can be played in Europe and Asia, as it will be contested by the Champions of numerous countries across these continents.

The Bulls hope to send a team of 9-12 players and coaches to this tournament, and will provide an opportunity to network across the European and Asian Flag Football community, and of course play against the best teams around.

The sponsorship itself will assist with the considerable travel and accommodation costs, and also new strips specific to the tournament, and presents a unique opportunity for press coverage for the sponsor.
