    Project Proposal

    WHAT IS AMiDA (ACADEMY FOR MICROFINANCE DEVELOPMENT IN ASIA)

    The 3rd AMiDA, Academy for Microfinance Development in Asia, will be conducted inMay 2010, and build on the successful 2008 and 2009 academies. Modeled on worldsleading microfinance academies, the unique AMIDA provides affordable internationalstandard training and best practices to microfinance practitioners and policy makers forthe Asia/Pacific market.

    The AMIDA, in line with its founder MICRA Indonesias vision, strives to build the localfinance sectors institutional strength, capacity and outreach, and to promote innovationsand transparency, to help promote access to finance for low income populations and todevelop local economies.

    Participants come from all over the region to share ideas, learn new skills, develop theirknowledge base and to establish new business relations. The event provides intensivetraining programs focusing on technical issues led by international and IndonesianAsia/Pacific region microfinance experts. Classes and are held in a participativeenvironment, with brainstorming and sharing of ideas enhancing the learning experienceand ensuring practical skills are developed for the long term.

    Since 2008, donor and corporate organizations recognizing the importance ofdeveloping local microfinance sectors to enable low income people access to finance,have sponsored participants of the AMIDA and partnered with MICRA Indonesia. Theseorganizations are: Mercy Corps (the founder of MICRA), GTZ, Hivos Triodos, HS Micro,

    Rekadesa, Moris Rasik, GTZ ProF1, GTZ Aceh, UNDP, TIFA Foundation, and MicraPhilippines.

    The AMIDA 2008 and 2009 brought together over 200 participants, including 60international participants, from 10 different countries thanks to our many sponsors. Forthis, our 3rd AMIDA, we plan to partner with greater numbers of participants andsponsors and continue to offer demand driven, creative and innovative courses to helpMFIs understand the market and develop ideas and solutions to address market needs.We hope you will join us.

    OUR VISION AND MISSION FOR AMiDA

    Our VISION is to be a leading microfinance academy in the Asia Pacific region providingan affordable, market driven international standard education program for microfinancepractitioners and policy makers.

    Our MISSION is to provide intensive training programs to build strength, capacity andoutreach in Microfinance Institutions across the region, in a sustainable and progressiveway, to promote access to finance for low income people and to develop localeconomies.

    OUR PLAN FOR AMiDA 2010

    We plan to carry out our 6-day AMiDA 2010 training from May 3-10, 2010 in Bali. TheAcademy plans to invite around 100 participants, both local and international. AMiDA2010 will offer 10 courses in both Bahasa Indonesia and English over a 6 day periodfollowing after the plenary sessions. The courses and plenaries are designed and will bedelivered in a detailed, thorough and practical way, with a focus not only on good toknow but also on how to.

    Courses offered in AMiDA 2010 will include: the GTZ module on Human Resources

    Management; CGAP courses (Business Planning with MICROFIN and ProductDevelopment, Financial Analysis, Delinquency Management and Interest Rate Setting);the Citi/WWB module on Financial Risk Management; and other modules such as Microinsurance; and a MIS course.

    Plenaries offered in AMiDA 2010 will include: Future trends and scenarios forMicrofinance in Indonesia; Identifying opportunities, threats and challenges; Agriculturelending, Lessons learned and success stories; Operational lessons for M-Banking ;Findings on womens cooperatives in Indonesia; Disaster preparedness for MFIs;Opportunities and challenges in Islamic Microfinance.

    The faculty members for AMiDA 2010 will include well-known international trainers:

    Michael McCord (MicroInsurance Center), Naheed Islam, Don Johnston, and NatasaGoronja, amongst others, and highly reputable local trainers, M. Syafii Antonio, GraceRetnowati, Ifdol Mahyudin, Erlyn Shukmadewi, Agung Meranga, Fadri Effendy, andothers.

    OUR TEAM FOR AMiDA 2010

    Ms. Natasa Goronja, Executive Director Micra Indonesia, started work in microfinance13 years ago, and has worked for CGAP (Microfinance Gateway and the DonorInformation Resource Center), the Microfinance Management Institute and theMicrofinance Center in Poland.Ms Nagwa Kamal, Chief Operating Officer, Micra Indoneisa is an experiencedinvestment banker and auditor and a certified CGAP trainer. Prior to joining Micra at itsinception she worked with leading Indonesian investment companies.Ms. Rini Radikun worked as Regional Vice President and Access Trainer for IMPAC, aFlorida based company, prior to joining Micras Technical Assistance Unit.

    WHO WILL PARTICIPATE AND WHAT THEY WILL GAIN

    The participants will be: Microfinance practitioners including mid and senior levelmanagers from rural and commercial banks, savings and credit unions and coops; policymakers and funders; and key industry stakeholders, such as government policy makers,international development agencies and social investors

    Participants will learn practical and applicable skills and knowledge about how to

    develop new microfinance products and services to strengthen their own institutions andbroaden their outreach. The participants will also have the opportunity to share ideas,information and learn from other countries experiences

    HOW YOU CAN HELP AND WHAT YOU WILL GAIN

    We would like to provide your organizations with the opportunity to support the AMiDA2010 and therefore, the microfinance industry in the region, by sponsoring participants inthe event. To prevent market distortion, sponsorship donations are partial rather than

    full, whilst still enabling those participants who lack financial support to attend. Sponsorsalso have the option to choose a specific institution type or location.

    By supporting this event, not only can you play a role in helping to develop themicrofinance industry in Indonesia but you may also have the opportunity to:

    SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

    MICRA invites companies and organizations to contribute and take part in AMiDA byproviding scholarship to local participants @ Rp 12,000,000 per person.

    Through the sponsorship, you:a. Play an important role in improving and developing an MFI and also the

    local microfinance industry (can be aligned with CSR or CSM CorporateSocial Marketing);

    b. Receive new updates and information about recent microfinance industrydevelopments;

    c. Receive an action plan from MFIs, including performance progress fromrelated MFIs; and

    d. Have your company logo highlighted on the AMiDA website

    MICRA believes that this will afford many benefits to the organizations attending sincethis is an international training event which will be attended by participants from othercountries, such as the Philippines, Cambodia, China, Canada and others.

    IMPLEMENTATION FOR AMiDA 2010 SCHOLARSHIP

    The AMiDA scholarship terms and conditions are as follows:

    1. MICRA will provide information on pre-selected MFIs(based on certain criteria that has been agreedpreviously) as potential scholarship recipientorganizations for AMiDA.

    2. Pre-selected MFIs will fill in the application form andwrite down their action plan. The action plan will bereviewed in detail after AMiDA.

    3. There will be a scholarship committee consisting ofrepresentatives from MICRA and the sponsor

    organizations to select the credible and capable MFIsto receive scholarships from the pre-selected MFIslisted

    4. The scholarship will only cover the tuition fee whileother fees, such as: travel, accommodation, etc will behandled by the MFI or from other funding sources.

    5. The scholarship is for the ONE named person and if ascholar wishes to have a family member accompanyhim/her, they will be required to pay for the additionalfamily member/s.

    6. Scholarship participants are obliged to sign and abideby this scholarship contract (Terms and Conditions

    here within) and return a copy to the AMiDA team forits records at the start of their course and retain acopy for their own records.

    7. AMiDA may use information collected regarding thescholars in AMiDA Marketing activities.

    8. It is the scholar's responsibility to set a good example,e.g. strive for best results, attend classes, finish thecourse on time and continue to demonstrate theexemplary participation attributes/grades by whichhe/she was awarded the scholarship.

    9. All scholars should complete their courses and onlyauthorized postponements (requested in advance

    from the participants, scholarship organization, andAMiDA team) will be considered and only inexceptional circumstances, and for a valid reason.

    10. The Scholarship committee is not in a position toprovide information regarding the non-awarding ofscholarships and the committee's decision is final.

    11. AMiDA team reserves the right to investigate andpossibly withdraw a person from the scholarshipprogram, if there is adequate proven evidence ofserious allegations of illegal activities discovered.

    12. AMiDA team will do the monitoring and evaluationafter a specific period (3 or 6 months) to check

    whether the MFI has already met the progress thatwas suggested before AMiDA in their Action Plan.Failure to do will lead to the MFI being excluded from

    future scholarship opportunities for any MICRA eventsfor 2 years.

    13. The AMiDA team will then make a report to thesponsors about the progress results of the MFIs.
