I began shadowing a teacher in my preference began to change

I have realized that nursing wasn’t for me and decided to choose being a kindergarten teacher instead as my career path

Before the shift….

As a child, I have always been the type of person to help those in need. My goal ever since I was little was to become a nurse. While attending college all that was on my mind was to join the nursing program at UK. Because I was so focused and determined on becoming a nurse, I never thought my plans would actually change.

Before the shift (continued)

My school assigned all of the seniors to participate in shadowing any job of our choice. Unfortunately for me, all the nursing sites were full so I was assigned to an elementary school for a kindergarten class instead.

Was I excited about it?

The Change…

NO

During my time shadowing my teacher I was surprised that I actually started to enjoy being a Kindergarten teacher. Just because I was assigned to this site, I ended up absolutely loving this career and decided to change my major.

The Change (continued)

I will hopefully soon be declaring my major studying as an elementary school teacher for a kindergarten class. I never would have expected myself to go from wanting to be a nurse to being a kindergarten teacher.

I have become more susceptible to change and strangely enough I have become even more excited about the career path I have chosen for myself

After the shift…

If it wasn’t for my high school teacher assigning me to an elementary school, I would have never even considered the thought of being a kindergarten teacher. I feel very blessed and grateful that I was able to experience what being in a classroom setting feels like. I look forward to the future of having my own classroom full of wonderful little children who are ready to learn
