My Greatest Regret

Overview

In 2000 my family moved from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Prospect, Kentucky.

In order to help my sister and I cope with the move my parents let us get a new pet.

Life With The Cat

The cat would ruin our furniture, carpet and even bed sheets.

I have grown up hunting my entire life. So at this point I didn’t quite care as much as I should about properly treating animals.

Finally Getting Rid of It

My sister left for college and my mom didn’t want to take care of the cat on her own anymore so my parents finally agreed we could get rid of it

I didn’t think I would feel bad at all getting rid of my family's pet, but as soon as I let the cat go I immediately knew I did the wrong thing. From this point on I had an entirely view on the proper treatment of animals.

My Sister

Since it was pretty much my sisters cat she was having the hardest time dealing with it being gone, and my parents told me not to bring up the cat around her. So I really never had the chance to tell her how I felt about the subject.

My Parents

My parents on the other hand could not be happier that the cat was gone. So I never really bothered telling them how I felt about releasing the cat.

My Friends

I never was really able to communicate my shift to my friends either. I just figured that they would want to hear about it and wouldn’t care.

Internal Struggle

I really had no one to talk to about how I felt after I released my cat so I just kept my feelings about the issue inside me.

Reflecting

After going through this entire shift without telling anyone I realized it would have been much easier if I did talk to the people around me.
