Bateman Engineering provides a comprehensive rangeof slag-granulation technologies. The equipment
offered primarily uses water as the granulation medium,as the Bateman Engineering process has been developed
and proven to lose far less water by evaporation thanother commercially available processes.
Particles in excess of 1 mm in size are generallyproduced, but this depends on the process applied.
The range of slag-granulation productssupplied includes:

I Bateman Launder GranulatorI High-tonnage slag granulators

Bateman Engineering has supplied many slag-granulation
systems, often on repeat business from the same clients.
The reliability and accuracy of these installations have been
demonstrated and references can be supplied on request.
These slag-granulation systems are an integral part of the
range of processes available from Bateman Engineering for the
solidification of liquid metals and slags to produce particles
ranging from the smallest (atomisation) through granulation to
larger lumps (blobulation) to ingots (pig-casting).

I Bateman-Stillwater Granulator
The Bateman-Stillwater Granulator with a semi-closed tank is
used mainly in the non-ferrous industry. Granules are formed
during the molten metals freefall into a waterjet and quenched in
a cyclonic water bath.
I Compact and highly economical closed-circuit system for
flows up to 2.5 t/min
I Granulation slurry discharge via pumping or gravity to
de-watering system
I Minimal steam generation
I Semi-closed-tank operation permits installation inside
smelter buildings
I Bateman LaunderGranulator
This launder slag-granulation process uses a double stream ofwater, the upper for dispersing the liquid metal during freefall
and the lower to quench the granules. Granulation is achieved in
the waterjets before the granules reach the bottom of the sloping
launder from where they are discharged to a de-watering system.
I Continual or batch flows of up to 3 t/min
I The launder normally discharges into a de-watering pond
I Pre-cast concrete or steel launders with hardwearing liners
are widely used
I Minimal steam generation
I High-tonnage slag granulators
These are used in the production of blast-furnace and Corex
slag, LD (Linz-Donawitz) converter slag and slags in the non-
ferrous industry. More than 50 are in operation worldwide.
I Any flow rate, but flows usually exceed 3 t/min
I The unique granulation heads are extremely safe and
produce a high-quality product
I Bateman Granulators
Bateman Engineerings open-tank slag granulators produce the
granules at the point where the freefalling molten slag and the
waterjet meet at the surface of the quenching-pond surface.
I Slag flows in the order of 2 t/min
