Parx Plastics y Erze se asocian para reducir patógenos en elenvasado de alimentosPublicada el 01/01/2016

Publication date: January 2016 Source: Additives for Polymers, Volume 2016, Issue 1 Rotterdam-basedbiochemistry technology start-up Parx Plastics reports that it has successfully collaborated with Erze Ambalaj,Turkey's largest producer of expanded foam packaging for food, to incorporate antimicrobial properties into thelatter's range of packaging products. This will help reduce cross-contamination from disease-producingbacteria such as Salmonella on the packaging as well as prolonging the shelf-life of packaged food, thecompanies say. Erze produces around 15 million food trays per day from its two locations in Turkey.

The first objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of theincorporation of a lipid phase (25 wt%, dry basis) in wheat gluten on thefunctional properties of the film, such water sorption, surface hydrophilicity,water barrier properties, mechanical properties and thermal properties.The second one was to asses if such incorporation was able to reduce thewater sensitivity of film mechanical properties.

Barreras funcionales o adsorbentes para reducir la migración dehidrocarburos de aceite mineral desde cartón reciclado haciaalimentos secosPublicada el 04/04/2016

In a practice-oriented storage test, the boxes of recycled cardboard featuring a barrier layer on the internalsurface or an integrated adsorbent available early in 2014 were investigated for their efficiency in reducingmigration of mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH) into dry food. Three cardboards coated or laminated with barrierlayers on the food contact side and one containing active carbon as adsorbent were characterized bymicrotome cuts and infrared spectroscopy. By testing the barrier efficiencies with four surrogate compounds,limited efficiencies were observed for the investigated layers.

Arrieta, José Maria Kenny,Laura Peponi Fully biobased edible films were prepared using nativepotato starch plasticized with glycerol and further reinforced with catechin(Cat) and starch nanocrystals (SNC) obtained by acidic hydrolysis fromwaxy maize starch granules. The thermal stability of starch nanocrystalsobtained at different pH was studied, resulting on a decreasing in thermalstability at higher pH values. The X-ray diffraction patterns of theplasticized reinforced materials display complete destructuration of starchby solvent casting process.

Packaging containers for liquids, such as beverages, comprise at least onesidewall comprising an abuse layer comprising a frangible flap; a zonedrelease coating on an inner surface of the abuse layer over an area thatincludes the frangible flap; and an inner layer; wherein upon peeling thefrangible flap, a portion of the inner layer is exposed intact. A sanitarysurface is provided for receiving a straw. Because there is not a pre-formed opening for the straw, the receipt by the inner layer of a strawconforms exactly to the straw, which fits snugly with the container duringuse.
