Received further amplification from Miles Kara,Commission staff, on 8.4."Commission learned at Andrews Tower thatflight strips are held for 15 days unless there isneed to hold them further for investigation. Ifsomeone is telling us that they were shredded,then we need a piece of paper explaining whyflight strips for 9/11 were not held and whythey were routinely destroyed even though theSOP allows that."NORAD has rechecked and finds the sameinformation as stated by AF/XOHP in 4-9b.NEADS confirmed that no events had occurredor other instructions requested in accordancewith SOP to retain flight strips. Procedurereviewed and found to have been followed inaccordance with SOP.Per AF on 9/5: ANG bases are not required tounless a mishap or Hazardous Air TrafficReport (HATR) was filed. None of the aircraftthat were scrambled on 11 Sep 01experienced a mishap or encountered
