SALOLAMPI DAY CAMP –A PERFECT TIME FOR A FAMILY VACATIONConsider spending a vacation in the Bemidji, Minnesota area next summer while your child

or children enjoy a new experience at a Salolampi Adventure Day Camp. While the children spend several days at Salolampi, parents are free to visit the beautiful lake country surrounding the Village.

Salolampi Finnish Language Village staff members will introduce activities, sports, and language learning to the children. The children will also meet and enjoy a meal with villagers who are attending a session. Parents agree that the Day Camps are a valuable introduction to Salolampi.

Dynamic New Offerings for 2016by Dean Amy Iida Tervola Hultberg V

This summer of 2016, as we approach our 40th summer (est. 1978), will also be one of new, fresh, and creative offerings. We are assembling staff from around the world, expanding to offer four different One-Week sessions, and engaging day campers and One-Week villagers in new ways. Salolampi songs and a warm sauna are always a must as we look forward to the start of a new summer. We also invite you to join us for our 4th Annual Juhannus, engaging all villagers in session on Sunday, June 26. Our own Heta (4) and Niilo (2) are already eagerly preparing for our arrival, orientation, and general life at Salolampi through daily dramatic play at home. We look forward for that dramatic play to transform into real Finnish immersion with as many members of your family as possible this summer.

hELP BUILD ThE SALOLAMPI SAMPOIn the Kalevala Finnish epic, the Sampo is a magical mill that supplies its owner with all of life’s needs. Likewise, the Salolampi Sampo is an endowment fund that will provide continuous scholarship support for the future life of Salolampi.

In that spirit, we appeal to you to remember the Salolampi Finnish Language Village in your will or estate plan. Help Salolampi grow with scholarships so future generations may learn about the beautiful Finnish language and the noble history and culture. The Sampo endowments are managed by Smith Palmquist Financial Services, Burnsville, MN and InFaith Community Foundation, Minneapolis, MN.

Thank You All – Kiitos Paljon!by Ruthann Swanson & Linda Warpula Davis

Following a successful summer with record high enrollment at the Salolampi Village, the Phonathon Committee’s scholarship appeal in September was successful, with $38,000 toward the scholarship needs.

We thank not only our many loyal long time supporters but especially those people who contributed for the first time.

Forty-four callers reached out to 2000 homes on our mailing list. There were callers in their own homes from around the country and a group who made use of the generous gift of phones at InFaith Community Foundation, Minneapolis. A big “Thank You” goes out to all of them.

We appreciate Finlandia Foundation National which has actively asked its chapters to provide scholarship help to support and send youth to the Salolampi Village. A number of Finnish American organizations supported villagers by partnering with the Salolampi Foundation for additional scholarship funds. Thank you.

We are aware that home phone calls are less viable in today’s social media world. “Scholarship Appeal” has become our new fundraising name because the Foundation need is higher and not just a week in the fall. We are exploring additional and creative ways to reach our Sanomat readers and Salolampi friends. We welcome any and all ideas that you may wish to share.
