MAY–YOUTH SERVICE MONTH



PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

II n-coming President Jeff Yap with his BOD members and some Pudu Rotarians have

attended the recently concluded District Training Assembly held in Kuantan. This Training will prepare them well to officially take office for incoming Rotary Year 2017/18 in July. I am reminded that I too attended such a training a year age. This important program deals in detail the essentials of running a club in a most effective and correct manner. It also highlights important aspects of club management that incoming club officers might overlook. As the training program is an interactive one, there is bonding resulting from the interaction of all the attending Incoming Presidents, Secretaries and Directors from the various Rotary Districts. This will offer them an excellent opportunity to network and cooperate in future. We can look forward to President Elect Jeff Yap and his

BOD to lead the Club well for the incoming year.

II n ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. He then hid himself and

watched to see if anyone would move the boulder out of the way. Some of the king’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many people loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none of them did anything about getting the stone out of the way. A peasant then came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to push the stone out of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant went back to pick up his vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King explaining that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. Moral of the story: Every obstacle we come across in life gives us an opportunity to improve our circumstances, and whilst the lazy complain, the others are creating opportunities through their kind hearts, generosity and willingness to get things done. CLUB PROCEEDINGS

PE Jeff Yap thanked Madam Wong Fong Lin for a very educational and enlightening presentation. He then presented a memento and a certificate of appreciation to Madam Wong Fong Lin. IPP Da IPP

Acting SAA Rtn Tenny Lee called the meeting to order at 1.15 pm. She welcomed all guests and Rotarians. She then led in the singing of the National Anthem and proposed the Loyal Toast.

1) The 83rd District Training Assembly will be held on Saturday, 22nd April 2017 at the M S Garden Hotel, Kuantan 2) There will be no meeting on Monday, 24th April 2017

CV OF MADAM WONG FONG LIN

Work experience : 32 years Bank Negara Malaysia in several departments and in charge of varied responsibilities; started in Bank Regulation Department responsible for licensing and regulating all financial institutions, stint at Bank Negara operations, several years in Training and was responsible for formulating training programmes for officers. Last position was in Exchange Control Department and was responsible for formulating and administrating exchange control policies and regulations. Subsequently consultant for 16 years, providing advice and services mainly to companies, banks and other professionals on matters relating to Bank Negara exchange control regulations.

Currently occupied with : a) Voluntary contribution to SJAM.

b) BMN Alumni executive committee.

c) Retainer consultant to a large group.

d) Instructor for Sun Wushu.
