Rosewood Arts Centre enriches the quality of life for residents of Kettering and the greater Dayton area. Through classes, gallery exhibitions, theatre performances, drop-in facilities, artist studios and special events, there is something for everyone! A division of the City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Rosewood is supported in part by the City of Kettering, the Ohio Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

MEETING SPACE AND ROOM RENTAL The best kept secret in Kettering for event space is Rosewood Arts Centre. Take advantage of low-price room rentals for your next meeting or program. OPEN STUDIOS

CLASS CANCELLATIONRosewood Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel any class and to substitute faculty when necessary. Classes will be canceled three working days prior to the starting date when there is insufficient enrollment.

ARTIST STUDIOSArtist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Studio spaces start at $85/month for Kettering residents. Ready to bring your work to the next level? Take advantage of affordable and professionally equipped spaces. Call (937) 296-0294 for available hours and required orientations or prerequisites.

VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open studio fees to stay longer than 30 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended.

STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card.

Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded or considered a donation to Rosewood.

LOCKER RENTAL: Lockers are available for rental on a pre-pay six-month or yearly basis. Six-month: $20/resident; $25/non-resident; Yearly: $35/resident; $45 non-resident.

CERAMIC STUDIO: Clay fee of $20 includes 25 pounds of clay and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Attendance at a free pottery studio orientation is required of all first-time participants.

DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes, and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment.

GLASS STUDIO: The glass studio is available to students who wish to finish class work, have attended a class previously or have prior experience in cold or warm glass. Participants must be at least 16 years old and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Fees for kiln or torch usage are $5 respectively for up to 3 hours.

REGIONAL ART COLLECTION AT THE KETTERING GOVERNMENT CENTER

The City of Kettering established a permanent art collection to commemorate the renovation of the Government Center at 3600 Shroyer Road. Featuring several of the most accomplished visual artists of Kettering and the Miami Valley, the collection represents the natural world, from Kettering’s own Hills and Dales Metropark to the nearby Clifton Gorge. This collection of over eighty works includes black and white photographs, colorful oil paintings and multi-layered ink prints. Located throughout the offices of 3600 Shroyer, the Regional Art Collection is accessible to the public by special appointment and scheduled tours. Guided tours of the City of Kettering Government Center Art Collection are scheduled on the second Tuesday of the month from 5 to 6 p.m. and by special appointment. Tours must be booked at least one week in advance by calling Rosewood Arts Centre at (937) 296-0294 or emailing [email protected]. Dance students will be in class without parents. Please be sure your child can participate independently.

Dance classes are conducted in the Rosewood Arts Centre dance studio. Street shoes are not allowed on the dance studio floor. Slippers or socks with treads are recommended, as well as comfortable clothing that will allow you to move easily. Tap shoes or hard-soled shoes are required for tap. Kettering Children’s TheatreAge(s) 10 – 14

The Kettering Children’s Theatre Production is a youth theatre program for elementary through junior high students. The theatre program produces two plays per year. Prerequisite to this production is Advanced Theatre Instruction class at Rosewood Arts Centre or by permission of the KCT director. If you have previous theatre experience but have not taken the advance theater class at Rosewood you may perform a monologue at auditions. The monologue must be memorized. Monologues will be available in the Rosewood Arts Centre front office. All potential participants are encouraged to take at least one acting class or a summer camp.

Students are required to make a commitment to three rehearsal sessions per week. Parent participation is welcomed. A mandatory parent meeting will take place on September 6, the first scheduled rehearsal.

Registration deadline for the fall production is August 27, 2016. Registration forms must be dropped off at Rosewood Arts Centre. Open auditions will be help on Saturday, August 27, at 11 a.m.

Fall production dates are November 4, 5, 6 and 11, 12, 13.

Rosewood ParticipantsAll artwork unclaimed after several weeks runs the risk of being lost, misplaced, broken or mistakenly taken by other students. An art class for kids on the Autism SpectrumArt with Buddies is a special class for kids with ASD. Each student, with the aid of their own “Buddy”(caretaker), will get individualized attention from an experienced art teacher.

YOUTH EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHTThe Kettering Children’s ChoirThe Kettering Children’s Choir is a non-profit organization dedicated to vocal ensemble and choral school education for youth. The Chorus, Chorale, and Concert Choir sing music of all periods and types, from Renaissance to contemporary, and rehearse weekly at Rosewood Arts Centre. Meet artist and educator Vijay Sharon Govender!The multi-talented artist Vijay Sharon Govender is a world traveler. Her journeys are reflected in her photography and mixed media painting. While studying in South Africa, she received degrees in art, art history, English and education. Alongside her artistic practice, Vijay is an arts educator whose classes are inspired by art and cultures from around the globe.

Kids can enjoy experimenting with many different media in her summer camps, including Pyramids and Mummies and Art of India.

Rosewood Arts Centre offers an exciting variety of summer art camps. This year Camp Rosewood features weeklong camps including Fashion Design, Fort Building, Star Wars: The Art Awakens and Printmaking. This year’s featured one-day camps include Screen Printing, Clay Day, and more.

Camp Rosewood will also feature Art in the Wild camp that will take place at the Habitat Environmental Center in Kettering. This camp will focus on the intersection between art and environmental education.

The summer session will be held from May 31 to August 9, 2016. Keep in mind some camps do fill up early, so register soon!Fees: One-Day Camps: $35/Kettering resident; $45/non-resident Half-Day weeklong Camps: $85/Kettering resident; $95/non-resident Full-Day weeklong Camps: $150/Kettering resident; $160/non-residentAll camps include class time and a morning snack. CAMP ROSEWOOD 2016 SUMMER CAMPS

Campers should wear clothes that can get messy in the classroom. Campers must also bring their own insulated sack lunch, beverage, sunscreen and swim gear every day. Art materials, morning snacks and camp T-shirts are included in the camp fee.

Parents are required to complete a camp registration form, along with a health and a swim permission form (see new online health form option at www.playkettering.org/camps). Forms must be turned in one week prior to camp. Parents with questions may call Rosewood Arts Centre at (937) 296-0294.

Camp Rosewood offers a variety of one-day camp workshops. From July 5 to July 8 and August 8 to 9 we offer one-day workshops in various media. 2016 One -Day Camps include Clay Day, Screen P r i n t i n g a n d Painting.

All one-day camp workshops are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration fee includes all art supplies, professional instruction and a snack. Campers must bring their own insulated lunch sack with a lunch and beverage. Parents must fill out health forms before their child may participate in camp activities.

REDUCTION FIRINGGet unique and beautiful glaze results using our reduction kiln and cone 10 specific glazes. Patrons may use up to 3 cubic feet of space per firing included in the cost of class or open studio use. Cost of additional space needed in a single firing is $20 per cubic ft. Firings are scheduled when enough work is generated to fill the kiln (generally once a month). Anyone interested in firing work in the reduction kiln may sign up for an individual orientation in the Rosewood office.

Raku WorkshopAge(s) 16 +

Explore the history and aesthetics of Raku, a traditional Japanese firing style. Students are provided with enough clay to make their own forms during the first class meeting. Peter is a self-taught watercolorist with a background in graphic and landscape design. While known for distinctive sceneries, this Dayton artist has also ventured into abstraction with his painting series Abstract Contours.

Since its founding in 1959, the Kettering Civic Band has performed throughout the region and Canada as well as in sister cities, Steyr, Austria and Kettering, England. The band rehearses each Monday evening at the Kettering Middle School throughout the year. Summer performance schedules include community concerts and large public festivals. The program is for adults and young people who have a minimum amount of high school musical training. The organization is an excellent source for those who wish to gain concert band experience.

Program fees for non-Kettering residents will be an additional 25 percent or $5, whichever is greater (not to exceed $10). Fees will be refunded if a class is full.

PAYMENT METHODSThe City will accept cash, personal checks, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) and money orders for the payment of fees. Please note which of these forms of payment is acceptable for the method of registration you choose. The City cannot accept any debit cards for payment. The City will charge a $25 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. Checks should be made payable to: City of Kettering.

CLASS REGISTRATION Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Dept. 2900 Glengarry Drive Kettering, OH 45420All resident registrations received on or before Thursday, May 12, will be entered on Friday, May 13, the first day of processing. City of Kettering residents will be given preference until Sunday, May 15. All registrations (resident and non-resident) received after May 15, will be processed by date received.

3. DROP-OFF (check / credit card / money order / household balance)Registration drop boxes will be available at the Kettering Recreation Complex and Rosewood Arts Centre for those who wish to drop off their registrations instead of using the mail. Drop-off registrations will be handled just like those that are mailed.

4. FAX (credit card / household balance)Complete the registration form, include payment information and fax the form to the Kettering Recreation Complex (937) 296-3297 or Rosewood Arts Centre (937) 296-3289. Faxed registrations will be processed on exactly the same schedule as the registrations that are mailed in or dropped off. Note: See below for validating residency status.

6. PHONE (credit card / household balance only)When phoning in your registration, we ask that you have the following information ready for the operator:

1) preferred classes and correct levels; 2) alternate classes; and 3) credit card number. Note: In order to receive resident rates on a phone-in registration, you must have a current resident I.D. card or activity pass.
