Please register for classes at least five (5) days before the class start date to guarantee availability and to provide time to obtain supplies for classes with a materials list.

The Parks and Recreation Department aims to make classes available to as many in the community as possible. Reduced fees for courses are available. for more than 30 years. Sixteen professional artists maintain open

studio hours for the public 10am - 5pm daily, seven days a week. Three

galleries present changing exhibitions of local and national artists in

a variety of media and styles. Concerts present nationally recognized

artists in a quaint, intimate setting. Classes in the visual and literary arts

are offered year-round.

Art: Introduction [Age 16+]A perfect introduction to the visual arts. Students will learn the basics of drawing, composition and color theory by creating a series of exciting projects including drawings, paintings, collages, and mixed media constructions. Call for a materials list.

Audio Recording: Level 1 [Age 15+]An introduction to audio recording. Students will be introduced to recording software, basic edit-ing techniques, and how to operate audio connection hardware.

Audio Recording: Level 2 [Age 15+]Explore multi-tracking, a basic rundown on the use of processing and effects, and mixing multiple tracks down to a final 2-track master. Students should have taken the Level 1 class or have a basic knowledge of Garage Band. Be sure to bring along a thumb drive to copy your project to, so you can bring it home.

Collage Workshop: Adults [Age 16+]Learn to use a variety of materials and adhesive processes to create experimental designs and textures. Call for materials list.

Drawing: Portrait & Figure [Age 17+]The nude human form and the portrait will be studied, with an emphasis on skeletal and muscular anatomy. Assignments and critiques will be individualized to each student's abilities. Bring draw-ing pencils and large drawing pad to the first class; a supply list will be provided then. Separate fee for model per class, paid to model.

Painting: Adults [Age 15+]Develop ideas from sketches to canvas. Paint from direct observation. Bring sketching and paint-ing materials (including a prepared canvas) and still life ideas to first class. Call for materials list.

Printmaking: Monoprint [Age 16+]How did artists illustrate books, flyers, and newspapers before cameras? In this workshop, stu-dents will collaborate with the instructor to produce hand-pulled prints. Mono prints are a single print pressed from an inked plate. Students will learn about art historical sources for printing, how to use a printing press, beginning color printing techniques, and be individually critiqued. Call for materials list.

Printmaking: Silkscreen Printing [Age 16+]Learn how to create multi-color images and put them on various mediums. Students will use non-toxic water-based inks, screen filler and indirect stencil materials. Methods presented may include everything from paper stencils to transparent base to be used as foundation training for students to work independently on advance printmaking process. Applications from this class may be inspired to print posters, making stationary and greeting cards, as well as T-shirts, fabric and individual prints. No print experience necessary.

Experienced students use an extensive array of tools to work in virtually any medium or process: welding, wood or stone carving, clay modeling, ceramic sculpture, mold-making, bronze finish work, casting plaster or plastics, patinas, etc.
