HOUSEHOLD NAMES
By William J. Rae
(On April 28, 1973, "The Press and Journal" announced that Aberdeenshire County Council had purchased the farm of
Alehousewells, Kemnay, in order to establish a housing estate).
Alehousewells – say rather Alehoosewa's-
Aince ye're translatit tae a hoosin scheme,
Whit will the fowk cry their biggins then?
Naethin' tae fill the lugs and mou' like you'
I'se warrn't.
There'll be a birn o' Retreats and Havens,
I jalouse, a River view nae doot,
And wha kens whit? – a Bella Vista
That's tin't the Sierras and lichtit
On Bennachie, maybe?
It wisna aye like this, nor need be yet.
Tae mind the names o' Donside fairms
Is tae hear the sangs o' rural makars.
The liltin' notes o' Lauchentilly,
Drumnaheath and Tillybin.
And Womblehill and Wairdis,
A' mak a lichtsome reel,
While twang o' trump you'll hear ding oot,
In Dalmadilly and Piketillum.
The fiddle's scraich (and gey sair darg?)
Is brocht tae mind by dour Scraphard,
And whitna rummle o' kettledrum
Could dirl oot like stoot Roquharrold?
Sae a' you chiels aboot tae bide by Don
Dinna be blate – lat fancy tak its gait.

KEMNAY BARGAIN BOX
We sell good quality goods on Fridays from 9.30 to 11.30am in the Wainman Room of the Village Hall (side entrance).
Please drop off items at the Bargain Box or call in to make other arrangements.
Due to recycling regulations from Aberdeenshire Council which effect what can and cannot be put in the outside bin at Kemnay Village Hall, we need to be very careful of the items we can accept as donations.
If you are unsure please contact us on a Friday morning in the Wainman Room.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Kemnay Community Coffee Mornings
There will be Coffee Mornings every Friday in November from 9.30-11.30am and all are very welcome. Watch out for pop-up stalls as we get nearer to Christmas! Come along and meet some new friends, catch up with old ones and maybe even learn to crochet.

George Egg : DIY Chef
NEW MATERIAL, NEW METHODS and a whole NEW MENU from the comedian who brought you ‘George Egg: Anarchist Cook’ George Egg is a stand-up comedian who cooks food, outstandingly good food, live on stage using unconventional methods and unexpected equipment. He makes you laugh too. In GEORGE EGG: DIY CHEF a health scare sees George banished from the family kitchen but relocated to the garden shed, his imagination and resourcefulness lead him to build an improvised kitchen there instead. During an inspiring and inventive hour of stand-up, live cooking and comedy lecture George prepares a breakfast, a lunch and a dinner using, amongst other things, a wallpaper stripper, a heat gun, a paper shredder and a whole host of other power tools, office equipment, hair-dressing appliances and gardening implements.
And the audience gets to eat the food at the end.

Health Walks
These are short low level walks around Kemnay and designed for all abilities even those who have not exercised for a while. Anybody can join us, the walks are free and you don’t need any special equipment – just a sensible pair of walking shoes or boots! These walks are led by trained Walk Leaders. Please note that dogs are not permitted on the walks apart from Guide dogs.
In November we will be walking on every Friday 1st, 8th , 15th, 22nd & 29th
We meet outside the Village Hall at 9.30 a.m. We aim to cater for all abilities and everybody is welcome. We run both a Health Walk that lasts approximately 60 minutes and a Gentle Walk that lasts 20 – 30 minutes.
The Health Walks are free and available to anybody living in Kemnay & area. We are particularly interested to meet with people who are living with some form of dementia and also their unpaid carers (e.g. family member, friend, neighbour) .
These are excellent ways to get out of the house and meet new people. The benefits are not just physical but also helpful for positive mental health and wellbeing.

Thank you Kemnay!
A big thank you to all who contributed to my fundraising effort for Nepal on Friday 13th September. £170 was raised (in secret!) by the Coffee Morning & Bargain Box. I was truly flabbergasted by your generosity.
I finished off my fundraising with a quiz night in the Village Hall and my final total was £750, a huge
amount.
I travelled to Nepal in October to join in social charity work in remote areas and the fantastic amount raised makes a very positive difference.

I wish to congratulate Mr Duncan Downie on his magnificent display of Dahlias; such a great show of colours and different dahlia types. The Buggy Walk group walked past them this Thursday and all the members remarked on how uplifting this floral display is. Well done Duncan and look forward to your 2020 display!! RM

Christmas Card Deliveries in Kemnay
Where has the last year gone? It seems like no time since the New Year and here we are again fast approaching the festive season with many shops already starting to prepare for Christmas, so it’s time for us to start preparing for delivering Christmas cards again, to friends and family in Kemnay Village. As in the last few years, Kemnay Scout Group would like to help you get your local Christmas cards delivered. We have been doing this since 2006 which is fantastic. This year we will be putting out the collection boxes on Friday 29th November hopefully to the same collection points as last time – the two Co-ops, Chemist, Littlewood Court and McColls. The first delivery will be on Saturday 7th December followed by two other deliveries on 14th and 21st December. Please note that the boxes will be picked up on Friday 20th December just after lunch time. This gives us enough time to get those final cards sorted and stamped for the delivery on the Saturday morning. May we suggest a small donation of 30p per card that you drop in the boxes. (A second class stamp is now 61p, so that represents very good value for money). We very much appreciate the support of the local community in helping us raise valued funds from this venture. Let us help you get your cards delivered to friends and family in the village, and you can help us maintain a valued youth group in the village. Many thanks and may we offer you best wishes for the festive season when it comes (early as it is!). Please address cards correctly and please – cards for delivery in Kemnay Village only. You would be surprised at some of the addresses we have had in the past!
Yours in Scouting,

Kemnay Parish Church Did you know that a church has been sitting at the heart of Kemnay for nearly 500 years! The buildings have seen many changes over the years: the current building dates from mid 1800 and has been improved with a pipe organ (1907), and the magnificent north stained glass window in 1958. A major renovation in 2008 saw a church refit for the 21st century – light and bright and offering a warm welcome. All these changes happened because the congregation and friends of Kemnay Kirk are ‘stewards’ or temporary custodians of the church. We need to upkeep the church so that it will still be here and servicing the village for the next 500 years. Kemnay Parish Church – the name tells that it is for the Parish of Kemnay – all the people within the area. The church is here for everyone for your entire life, through the good times: birth and marriage and the bad times. Anyone living in the parish can have their funeral at the church. We rely on the members and friends of the Kirk for donations to maintain the Kirk and pay the bills. Everyone is welcome! Come along on a Sunday morning at 10am to find the Good News & why we have been involved in Kemnay for so long – you will be made most welcome. We also live stream our services or you can catch up at anytime, (see the church website or You Tube).

The law – Single yellow lines along the road indicate there are waiting restrictions. Not only do they apply to the road but also the pavement and verges. You may stop to load, unload or for passengers to get in or out of the vehicle providing there are no signs saying not to. So a van may unload/load on a yellow line, a driver may let a passenger out but the driver should never leave their car to buy food or go to the gym. The Law - Double yellow lines mean that there is to be no waiting at any time. So don’t park on the bridge pavement and leave your car The police will visit the registered drivers if they receive reports with photographs of the offending vehicles. Email - [email protected] In 2017 a survey found 17% are copying other drivers when mounting pavements . Kemnay has a lot of copycats who never consider the pedestrian
Please park
