Health & wellness projects of RC Holy Spirit and partners con-

tinue to touch lives of increasing number of poor patients

RCHS again demonstrated its commitment tohelp build healthy communities. Last Feb 2 in

Old Balara Church, and Feb 3-4, 2011 in Hal-con Mountain, Mindoro, a total of 948 patientswho were mostly 'Mangyans' were given freemedical services. Of these 39 were surgicalpatients of herniolomy (having tumor includingbreast tumor).

Rotarians Mr. David In Il Kim and Dr Bongar-ranged for the services of Dr. Lee Jin Yong(PHD) and Dr. Kwon Moon Kwang (PHD) whoare expert surgeons and specialistsof emergency medicine at Mother's Breast Cen-ter in Pusan, Korea. Rev. Kim In Hyo, Mr. DavidKim's brother also cooperated in the project.

A patient of herniolomy who has been severelysuffering for almost a year because of lack ofP250,000 for surgery, was finally operated on.His family was very thankful and revived after athree-hour free surgical operation.(photo - surgi-cal patient at Old Balara)

The Feb 3rd medical-dental mission in Pam

panga sponsored by SM Foundation and led

by PP Dr Roger Belleza, chair of RCHS Health

& Wellness, provided free services and medi

cines to 887 patients: 594 medical; 68 den tal; and 110 x-ray, 80 ECG & 35 urinalyse

exams. A large mission for 1500 patients is

due in Holy Spirit on Saturday, February 12.

Interact Club of Holy Spirit President-elect HaroldKim Maggay and Secretary Gretchen Berguera at-tended the RYLA (Rotary Youth LeadershipAwards) Training at the Phillips Sanctuary in Anti-polo City last January 28-30, 2011. Aside frommeeting new friends from different Interact clubs, ourInteractors were given valuable insights on how to bebetter persons and leaders and in organizing effec-tive service projects. On the 2nd day, the participantsplanted trees as a sign of their commitment to carefor the environment.

Due schedule conflicts, Rotaract and InteractClubs ofHoly Spirit will commemorate Araw ng Kabataan onFebruary 19 instead of February 5, 2011 when mostother youth clubs in District 3780 celebrated the occa-sion at the Amoranto Stadium in Quezon City. Thefollowing activities have been lined up:

Rotaract and Interact members have approached andreceived favorable response from QC Councilors AlyMedalla and Candy Medina for the supply of arrozcaldo for the feeding program scheduled in the morn-ing. For the garage sale, our young allies are solicit-ing the help of Rotarians and friends in providing usedclothes, white elephants or anything that can be soldby them for their fund-raising campaign.

Rotaract Club Presi-dent James Lorenzo and Interact Club PresidentXyrryl Opinaldo and their respective officers are at-tending this meeting to finalize the nature of theirparticipation as volunteers during the mission

Rotary DNA !

This Rotary year features a culture of

innovation in which we are looking at

all aspects of our policies, practices, and procedures

to see if they can be modernized and improved. Not

surprisingly for an old and large organization like ours,

we are identifying many areas that could, and should,

be brought up to date.

But at the same time, I fully recognize that some

things are so significant in Rotarys success that they

are sacrosanct. They are referred to in the RI Strate-

gic Plan as our core values, but I prefer to call them

our DNA. They are the characteristics that distinguish

Rotary from all other organizations. They are the es-

sence of who Rotarians are and what Rotarians have

in common around the world.

The five core values named in the RI Strategic Planare fellowship, service, integrity, diversity, and leader-

ship. Young people prefer the word networkingto our

traditional word offellowship, but to me they are

equivalent. Both words lead to lasting friendships in

our clubs, which keep us together between projects

and which make Rotary membership truly priceless.

Friendship is clearly the most essential element of

Rotarys DNA!

Rotarians should not worry that the current emphasis

on modernization will damage our core values. That

would be alien to Cowboy Logic, which includes the

admonitions Remember that some things are not forsale and Know where to draw the line. I want to

assure Rotarians that we will not alter the values and

attitudes that have made Rotary a premier organiza-

tion one that is now on the world stage through Po-

lioPlus!

We have so much to be proud of as Rotarians. This is

our finest hour, and our best days are still ahead as

we help our clubs to be Bigger, Better, and Bolder.

Along with our five core values, persistent progress is

another prestigious part of Rotarys DNA!

District polio immunization drive

President Dodgie has announced that, on Feb-

ruary 22, Tuesday from 8:30 AM our District will

hold a polio immunization drive at Barangay Ta-

talon. Let us support this service project by vol-

unteering. Please confirm if you could. You may

send a family member in your stead also a

good way of exposing them to current social re-

alities. We need the names by Wednesday.

March for Life to commemorate

Bataan Memorial Death March

IPP Linda informed us that this coming April 9-

14, 2011, Rotarians and their friends in the

Philippines will "re-enact the march", walking100 kms in five days, with Rotary Clubs and

other civic organizations supporting the

"Marchers for Life." It will be a fundraising Ro-

tary activity for the Villa Apong Santiago Housing

Project, including livelihood and skills training

serving the Poorest of the Poor of Betis, Guagua,

Pampanga, Philippines.

Rotary policy recognizes that throughout the world Rotariansrepresent many religious beliefs, ideas, and creeds. The reli-gious beliefs of each member are fully respected, and nothingin Rotary is intended to prevent each individual from beingfaithful to such convictions.

At international assemblies and conventions, it is traditional fora silent invocation to be given.
