A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear families, Term two is well and truly underway for us at Queenscliff Primary School.
Last week, our school captains attended a student leadership conference, which focused around leadership responsi-bility, identifying leadership strengths and weaknesses, developing understanding of the school captain role and ap-plying these to our Queenscliff Primary School context. By all accounts, this was a useful and exciting day – I look for-ward to the school captains sharing a bit more about this at Friday’s assembly – assembly will be at the regular time of 2.30 on Friday.
As you are all aware, ANZAC Day is tomorrow and therefore a student free day at our school. Students have worked extensively with Mr Tantau learning about ANZAC day and what this day means to Australia and us. Tomorrow our school captains, Jewel Allen and Sol Bowtel, will be attending the 11.00am service at the Fort to place a wreath on behalf of the school. Also, 6 students across years 3-6 have been invited to represent our school on behalf of Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale RSL in escorting the ‘Cosmopolitan Lodge Honour Board’, currently in custodianship of our local RSL sub-branch, from the RSL Memorial Hall into Fort Queenscliff. The students participating are Liam Fitz-simmons, Kathryn Grima, Mitch Bowtell, Bailey Drummond, Jed Hutchins and Virginia Roob. All students representing the school must be in full school uniform. We encourage and invite all of our QPS families to join us at the memorial service. We will be meeting at the school from approximately 10.15 am and walking to the fort.
May is a huge month for us at QPS. Next Monday the 1st May, we have Queenscliff Kindergarten students visiting our school for a literacy session with Mrs Fitzgerald. On Tuesday the 2nd of May, all students will be attending a whole-school excursion compliments of Barwon Water. As you may be aware, significant pipe works are being undertaken in Queenscliff next week and due to this, we have been invited to visit Barwon Water’s Otway storage catchment and treatment plants – all fully funded by Barwon Water, ensuring we are not inconvenienced by any water interruptions that may occur - We are very lucky indeed! On Friday the 5th May, Mrs Fitzgerald and her P-2 class will be going on an excursion to Fairy Park as part of their narrative unit in English. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Drysdale Carpet Court for the use of their mini-van as well as Ms Green and Mrs Kirk for assisting with driving – notes for this excursion will go home on Wednesday. On Friday the 12th May, our whole school will be attending the Queenscliffe Literary Festival excursion where all schools within the Borough will be attending. We also have our swimming pro-gram held from Tuesday the 16th of May until the 26th of May. There will be no swimming Monday the 22nd of May as this will be our Biggest Morning Tea. Each year Queenscliff Primary School hosts the Biggest Morning Tea to raise awareness and funds for cancer research through the Australian Cancer Council. Last year we raised over $800.00, which was a fantastic effort for a school that only had 10 students – imagine what 40 students will be capable of!
NAPLAN week commences for years 3 and 5 students on Tuesday May 12th and concludes Thursday May 14th. Please feel free to call me or pop into the school should you have any queries, concerns or questions about NAPLAN.
We would like to congratulate Lucia Greenwood, Claire Kirk and Hannah Petrie in being the successful applicants to three education support positions we had advertised last term. We would also like to welcome Mrs Carolyn Fletcher who will be co-teaching the year 3/4 class alongside me for two afternoons a week and Ms Helene Cameron who will be working in our office each Tuesday.
Also, a big thank you to Neil from across the road for a big basket of apples for the children—they will make light work of them.
