SPANISH FORTRESS

99 SPOUTOne of the key monuments of the city is the “99 spouts “ fountain. It’s composed by a row of 99 different grotheque masks each with its own spouts. The fountain was built as a metaphor of the city: Like water could only take form if itsindividual components combined as a single entity so the city could work

On 6° April 2009 at 3:32 Am , occurred the earthquake with epicentre near L’aquila. It was rated 5.9 on the Richter scale and 6.3 on the moment magnitude scale.

308 people are known to have died and more than 1500 were injured, around 65,000 people were made homeless. The earthquake caused damage to between 3,000 and 11,000 buildings in the medieval city of L'Aquila. Several buildings collapsed.
