SCHOOL VISION:
East Bentleigh Primary School provides a rich, inviting, child-focused
environment ensuring that all students feel safe and stimulated. Our students are
able to achieve their full academic, creative and social potential, equipped for the
challenges of lifelong learning. Students develop into healthy and confident
individuals, actively contributing to the world in which they live.
Hello everyone,
I can’t believe that when this newsletter goes out there will be only
effectively 3 weeks left of school for 2017! The next few weeks will certainly
be very busy ones and before we know it they will be over.
End of year class performances have already begun with a wonderful
orchestral concert on Tuesday night from our instrumental students in
Classes 3 - 6. What a powerhouse set of performances from our class
orchestras - they were all magnificent. The concert concluded with another
fabulous performance from our instrumental teachers Felicitie, Jonathan
and Michael. As I said on the night, we are blessed to have you here at
EBPS.
Sue and I are really looking forward to attending the many other
performances over the next 3 weeks and watching the culmination of
many weeks’ work by your children and their teachers. I hope you have
noted down all the remaining important dates from the diary - there are so
many of them!
We have now locked in a provisional staffing structure for 2018. You will see
it outlined later in the newsletter.
During the last week of school we hold the Grade 6 Graduation evening,
(Wednesday 20th December), all our Grade 6 students have been
preparing for this important evening for some time now. Enjoy these last few
weeks’ children. I suggest you keep a diary for future reference if you don’t
already do it. I really wish I had written down the things that were important
to me back when I was about to leave primary school. Looking back on
such memories is a wonderful thing to be able to do.
Staffing - 2018
As you know, planning has been going on in earnest over the past few
weeks. After an extensive process we are now in a position to advise our
class structure and accompanying staffing allocations. Our school will grow
by another class in 2018 and whilst we are sad to be saying goodbye to a
number of current staff members (as advised in our last newsletter), we are
happy to welcome Sarah Boyd, Anne Wilson, Leah Morrisy, Sarah Carnegie,
Celia Hopkinson, Kate Raynor and Shelley Krycer to our team. Donna
Leibowitz will move into a classroom support role.

change in the New Year.
Book Fair
Thank you to Sandra Zylberlicht for organising the Book Fair once again this week. Thanks to all our families
who supported the Book Fair. I’m sure you’ll all enjoy your purchases and at the same time you are
helping our school in our all-important fundraising efforts.
Parent / Helpers’ Morning Tea
On Thursday 7th December at 10.30 am, the staff will provide a special morning tea to all our wonderful
helpers at our school. We are very lucky at EBPS to have so many school community members prepared
to give up some of their time. I know not all of you will be able to come, so I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all those people who have given their time and expertise to help support our school
in any way at all throughout the year. Your efforts are all very much appreciated by the teachers and
students at EBPS.
Reminder - please send in your Walkathon money to the school office by tomorrow

Student Wellbeing and Positive Education at EBPS
Positive Education Wellbeing
Monday 13 November was World Kindness Day. 3A organised a ‘Caught Being Kind’ activity
for the whole school.
Children and adults were invited to ‘catch’ someone in a random act of kindness around the
school. They then wrote the act of kindness and the person’s name on one of the fish in the
box on the shelf in front of the office.
The fish were then put into the blue ‘pool’ on the wall in the hallway. To help make EBPS a
‘school’ of kindness fish.
Keep adding to the pool – here are some of the acts of kindness that have been ‘caught’ so far:

ORIENTEERING On the 17th of November, 50 students from our school along with 700 other
students travelled to Maroondah Reservoir Park to compete in the Eastern Zone
State Orienteering Championship. We left at 8.45am and most of us arrived at
10am ready to start our competitions.
Everyone tried their best and did a great job in tough conditions. We would like to
congratulate all students who got through to the next level.

John and Lachlan for helping us train for the event. By Maya D. and Aela M.
The Reconciliation working group will meet at 4.00 pm on Thursday 7 November in the staff room. We will review our Reconciliation Action Plan to date and discuss the next steps in our plan to create a Learning Stones site on our school grounds - a cultural meeting place that can be a safe place for reflection, a place to acknowledge significant days on the Indigenous calendar or to help support educational transitions for Indigenous families. East Bentleigh Primary School acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and to Elders both past and present.
