November Parent Forum Focus - Student Wellbeing

Another great turn-out to our second Parent Forum day/night. Parents were able to gain an understanding of the Department of Education’s Student Wellbeing policy and look at the processes that already exist at our school operating under the Student Wellbeing

Principal’s Message Dear Parents/Carers

Grandparents Day Thank you to all of the Grandparents who came to visit our school last Friday. Our students were excited and proud to have the opportunity to show off their school. The comments we have received from grandparents has been resoundingly positive, with many proclaiming their favourite part being the Assembly, hearing the robust singing of the National Anthem and We Are Australian.

Leadership By the River

Last week Mrs Bowden and I had the pleasure of accompanying our School and Vice Captains - Lyla, Chris, Ryleigh and Riley - to The Kyle Bay for the School Leadership Conference - Leadership By the River. They, along with the student leadership teams from all of the primary and high schools in the Georges River network, presented a speech in conjunction with a Slide show, about their leadership achievements. Our captains spoke about all of the Environmental initiatives the SRC have conducted throughout the year. They did a wonderful job and were wonderful ambassadors for our school.

framework. We discussed the increasing need for schools to address mental health and explored potential ideas for a future wellbeing program that is consistent across the school from K-6.

We also discussed how differentiating the curriculum (last month’s Parent Forum topic) has a positive impact on the wellbeing of all students; how we have been investing in teacher Professional Learning in differentiating the curriculum and collaboratively planned Stage-based teaching and learning programs across the whole school; and what the implications are for next year’s class planning. As always, I really value the input of our whole school community, and these forums are the ideal opportunity for there to be genuine “Parent Voice” in an informal setting. The parent ideas and opinions from the forum are not only taken back to the staff, they help to inform our decision making around future school planning.

P&C Last night was the P&C AGM where a new P&C Committee were elected. I would like to thank Mardi Haworth and her team for their incredible fundraising efforts over the past 3 years and the many things they have done to support our school. Your efforts have been very much appreciated. A very warm welcome to the newly elected P&C with Alison Burns as the new President. Alison and Eleni Calavrias (Vice President) have some great new ideas and we have arranged an informal catch up before the year is out to talk about the exciting new direction they want to take the P&C. We are looking forward to working together in the year ahead.

Schools Infrastructure

The department’s Schools Infrastructure unit are currently fulfilling several projects that have been backlogged for some time, so you will see some building works occurring over the next few weeks. These include painting the interior of the main toilet block, eliminating the overcrowding in the staffroom by creating an outdoor deck and clearing along the fenceline at the back of the school, including cleaning out the blocked drains. The great news about the latter is it will mean, in 2020, we can finally begin stage 1 of the Outdoor Learning Centre project that was initiated by Ms Eaton. A newly approved project is the building of a brick storeroom behind the Hall for both Church@thePeak and OOSH to share.

Band Carols Night - TOMORROW NIGHT!!! I am looking forward to seeing you all there. Thank you to the Band Committee, Ms Paul and Mr Forrester for your combined efforts in pulling this event together. I’m sure it will be a great night.

SRC Wildlife Wednesday This November our state has been affected by severe bushfires and many animals have lost their habitats. One of the most affected animals is the Koala and they are already suffering from losing their habitat. Over 350 Koala’s died in the recent bushfires. The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital is raising money to help rescue and rehabilitate Koalas that were injured in the fires and set up drinking stations around the country to give dehydrated Koalas a chance at surviving. The SRC have decided to have a special Wildlife Wednesday and would love everyone's support. If you would like to donate, please bring in a gold coin donation next Wednesday 4 December (Week 8) to help all Koalas, including our school Koala Blinky.

safety below that outlines options to help minimise parking issues. It includes a list of offences that are more commonly encountered as well as the associated penalties.

Council officers will be undertaking both on foot and vehicle based rostered patrols of schools to support this initiative. Where drivers choose to ignore parking rules, creating safety risks or traffic issues, the issue of penalty notices to these drivers remains a strong deterrent.

Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact Aaron AhTong, Team Leader Parking, Georges River Council at:

School Safety & Enforcement Program The safety of students and other road users around schools is a priority within the Georges River Council area and driver education plays an important part in reducing the incidences of illegal parking.

To assist in promoting safer parking around schools, Council has developed School Zone
