How to calculate consumption of electrical energy?

(Wattage × Hours Used Per Day) ÷ 1000 = Daily Kilowatt-hour (kWh)

1 kWh=1 UNIT

1 kilowatt (kW) = 1000 Watts

EXAMPLES (PER DAY USAGE) Question. How much units(kwh) of

energy is consumed by a bulb of 60 watts

per hour ?

=60 WATTS

Answer. For one hour if you are turning on the light, it consumes 60 watts, that means it consumes 60/1000=.06 units of energy and if it is kept ‘on’ for 12 hours likewise when we are in hurry to reach office or college the energy lost for 12 hours is (60*12)/1000=720/1000=.72units

What is the difference between CFL and a colloquially called tube light/fluorescent

lamp?

• CFL bulbs have an electronic circuit in the base of the bulb. A miniature transformer that produces high voltage enough to ionize the gas in the tube.

• Tube lights are simply connected to the pins at the base. External ballasts must be used to supply the high voltage necessary to start the lamps.
