FOPS Messages

The next FOPS Meeting will be on Thursday 1st March at 9am after drop off in school. This

is a great chance to come along and find out all about how FOPS support school and

the up coming events. Please come along if you can. If you would like to be involved

but can't attend the meeting please us know via the FOPS Facebook group (or if you want to sign up to join). The

Facebook page will be updated after the meeting with a brief summary of our discussions and to let you know how

you can help us in the year ahead. https://www.facebook.com/groups/fopsmail/

On Wed 7th March all the children in our school will have the opportunity to buy a small Mother’s

Day gift especially for their Mum (or their Nan or Auntie or Stepmum or Carer!)

We will have some lovely gifts for the children to choose from, and they will be making their selec-

tions along with their classmates during the course of the school morning. FOPS volunteers will be

in attendance to help them with their choices and to wrap the presents. This event will cost just

£2.00 per gift, and children may buy as many presents as they wish. Please give your payment

with a completed form to the school office by Friday 2nd March so we can make sure we have

enough gifts for the 11th!

World Book Day Celebrations!

Due to St Piran’s Day and The Welcome taking place next week, we will be celebrating

World Book Day the following week on Friday the 9th March. On this day children can

come to school dressed as a favourite book character! There will be a prize for the best

‘DIY costume’ in each class. The winning costumes will be those that are free or very

cheap to make and created using garments/items already owned or made from recy-

cled materials.

Throughout the day children will be taking part in fun reading ac-

tivities and all things reading! To tie in with our celebrations of

World Book Day we are inviting children to take part in the ‘Perranporth Ex-

treme Reading Challenge’. The idea is for children to have photos taken of

them reading in the most interesting/extreme places. Think about different,

exciting, fun, and safe places you can enjoy a book. All entries to be

emailed to [email protected] by Thursday 8th March. There will be a

winner from Trevithick class and one from each Key Stage 1 and 2. Let the fun

begin!

We are also running our book review competition again this term. Children are ex-

pected to read a book and then write a review. Entry forms will be handed out by class teachers or are also availa-

ble from Mrs Laity (Year 2). One child from each year group will win a trip to Waterstones in Truro to

choose a book of their choice. All entries to be handed to Mrs Laity (Year 2) by Thursday 8th March.

And if that wasn’t enough book fun for you… we would also like to invite parents of chil-

dren in Reception, Y1 and Y2 classes to come along from 2.30pm on Fri 9th March for a

‘story time’ session in the Hall. This is an informal session in which parents can spend some

time with their child sharing some books from our library. There will be tea and coffee for

parents and squash for children available.

Cross Country News

On Tuesday this week Perranporth entered the final cross country race of the season. In this

race children from Y4 had the opportunity to have a go at the course in preparation for the

races next year. It was another muddy track but the weather was dry and crisp. All of the

children from Perranporth gave excellent performances and achieved some brilliant finishing

places. What’s more, we have now got several children who have achieved enough points

to enter the grand final next Thursday! A big well done to all of the runners and good luck to

next week’s competitors!

Extreme Reading

St Piran’s Day Menu

On Monday 5th March our school meal provider Caterlink have a special menu in celebration of St

Piran’s Day. They are providing children with either a steak or cheese and onion pasty, chips and

beans with a biscuit for dessert. Jacket potatoes can still be ordered as normal if children prefer.
