Welcome Back! Welcome back to the new school year. We hope you all had a fantastic summer break and, like us, you’re looking forward to a successful and enjoyable new academic year at Perranporth School! The children have quickly settled into their new classes and slotted back into the routine of school. The ‘new recruits’ in Reception also seem to be settling in very well and getting to know their new sur- roundings. We are very pleased to welcome some new members of staff to the team; Mrs. Sutton who is teaching in Trevith- ick Class (Reception) on Thursdays and Fridays, Miss Pryor who is supporting in Boscawen Class (Y3), Mrs Cornish who is sup- porting in the Office and Mr Barnes and Mr Lara who have begun their teacher training in Trevithick Class and Boscawen Class respectively. We hope they all enjoy their time here at Perranporth. As usual, the newsletter and the school website will be the best ways to keep informed about what’s going on in school. Newsletters go home every Friday. This is the last half term that we intend to print paper copies of our newsletter. From 1st Nov it will only be available via email or by downloading from the school website. This decision has been taken to support our efforts to become more environmentally friendly and achieve the Eco-Schools Award. If you would like to have the newsletter emailed to you (it’s much nicer because the pictures are in colour!!) then please ensure that you return the com- pleted Data Collection Sheet with an up to date email address to the School Office. If you ever have any problems, queries or just fancy a chat, you can usually find me at the school gate in the morning or feel free to come into school and we can arrange a meeting - we’re only too happy to help. After School Clubs Letters regarding after school clubs are being finalised. Clubs will be starting next week. If your child wishes to attend any of the clubs available, please return your completed form, either to the class teacher or School Office as soon as possible. Meet the Teacher Meet the Teacher’ will take place on Wed 14th Sept for all classes except Year 2 which will be on Thursday 15th Sept. Teachers will open their classroom doors to talk to parents about this new academic year; the work that children will be covering, special events/trips taking place, expectations in the classroom, details about homework, etc. It’s a great opportunity to get to know your child’s new teacher and to ask any questions that you may have. There are two sessions 3.30pm - 4pm and 5.00pm – 5.30pm (in case you have more than one child), no appointment is needed, just turn up. We very much look forward to seeing you there! Parking and The School Routine Just a couple of reminders … The school carpark should only be used by members of staff and parents with disability badges. For the safety of pedestri- ans, please do not park in the school carpark or in the coned areas leading into the school. Free parking is available in Wheal Leisure car park during drop off and pick up times - parking vouchers can be collected from the School Office. Each morning the school gate opens at 8:40. Children and parents should wait either outside of the classrooms or on the play- ground until 8:45 when the 1st bell rings and teachers collect their classes to take the children into the building. Wherever possible and appropriate, we would encourage children to walk into the school building by themselves to begin developing their independence and to help calm the congestion of people around the site. The 2nd school bell rings at 9am at which point children should already be inside their classrooms. Classroom doors are shut when this bell rings, however the green gate will still be open for a few more minutes to allow parents to leave the site after dropping their children off. If children arrive after 9am, they must make their way to the front of the school and sign in as ‘late’ through the office. It is extremely important that children arrive at school in plenty of time to ensure they are able to settle properly, ready for the learning opportunities and the exciting day ahead. Nut Free School A reminder that we are a nut free school. Your kind co-operation would be greatly appreciated by ensuring your child does not bring nuts or other obvious nut products into school as part of their snack or packed lunch. We also request that parents baking cakes for the Friday Cake Sale avoid using nuts in their ingredients. Thank you. Secondary School Open Evenings A notice to Year 5 and Year 6 parents: Seconday School open evening are as follows—The Richard Lander Thurs 22nd Sept 5pm—8pm, Tretherras Thurs 15th Sept 5:45pm – 8:00pm and Treviglas 22nd Sept 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm. Annie Lee’s Isles of Scilly Swim Challenge! In order to raise money for the bereavement charity Penhaligon’s Friends, Annie Lee (Sam and Meg’s mum) has en- tered into the Isles of Scilly Swim Challenge, on 10th September. She will a swim a total of 15km and walk 10km, to and over the islands in one day- weather depending! This will be her first ever challenge of this kind, and something she has been training very hard for over the last 6 months, so far! She has chosen to support Penhaligon’s Friends due to their fantastic help with close family friends, links with her work, and of course the fantastic support they provided for our school when Esmee Polmear sadly passed last year. They are a completely volunteer led service and based locally in Cornwall. Annie would love to raise as much as she can for the charity and if people would like to donate, the link is below. You can help Annie Lee raise money for this great cause by donating directly to her Just Giving fundraising page - https://www.justgiving.com/Annie-Lee71?

Singing Therapy!

How many times do you feel a bit down, only to hear a classic track on the radio that makes you feel happy?

Having a really good "sing" does wonders for your health and well being (regardless of the quality of the sound

you make!) We all love to sing...and it makes us feel good.

Have you ever wanted to join a choir, or meet with your friends to catch up, chat and relax? Well, now you can

do both.

An informal, adult singing group will be starting in St Michael's Church 7.30pm on Sunday 11th September. (finish in

time for Poldark!) There is no charge, all we ask is that you bring a bottle of water, an A4 folder and a pen! We will sing songs of

all styles; pop, country, folk, worship, songs of hope and inspiration, show tunes and rock.

You don't need to be able to read music. No pressure to sing solos or to be brilliant! No uniform/choir T-shirt to buy! We will do

some simple arrangements of well known songs and some straight forward sing-a-long numbers. No pressure to perform in con-

certs (unless of course, we decide we'd like to!). This is a fab opportunity to meet with friends, make new friends, have a laugh

and de-stress in preparation for the week ahead. Older children (14 yrs upwards) can also attend but must come with a parent.

School Uniform Vouchers

We would like to make parents aware of a uniform voucher service that is available to all parents of children who are

in receipt of free school meals or eligible for Pupil Premium funding.

We are now using a portion of our Pupil Premium funding to offer parents a £30 uniform voucher per pupil. These

vouchers can be used to purchase any two items of school uniform (or equivalent) at Keywear in Truro. If you are in

receipt of income support, income based job seeker's allowance, income related employment support and allowance, child

tax credits (with an annual income of no more than £16,190) then your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium Funding. If you

think your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding / free school meals, please pop in or call the school office to fill out

a short form or look on our website. Pupil Premium funding is available to children in all year groups and is in addition to the

Universal Infant Free School meals which is available to all KS1 pupils. Every child who is registered as eligible for pupil premi-

um generates valuable income for the school and this eligibility will also help you access financial assistance with various

school costs such as trips, clubs and music tuition.

Art and Craft Club

A new, fun, creative art and craft club begins on Monday 19th Sept at Muttz Cutz. Sessions are on Mondays and

Wednesdays 3.30-5.00pm for children 5-11yrs. The cost is £6.50 per session payable in advance for the half term. Children

can be escorted to the club straight from school with prior parental consent being given to both the school and the club

leader. Spaces are limited so please contact Kate Walsh to reserve yours and find out more details! Tel 07917820506.
