Litter Picking Success

On Tuesday this week we were blown away by the fantastic support for our litter picking morning. We

managed to fill an entire wheelie bin with 116 bags of rubbish found on the various routes to school.

Thank you all so much for making such a wonderful effort to keep Perranporth tidy. As the event was

such a success we have now decided that we will run the litter pick once per term. Next time we’re

hopeful of having a recyclable rubbish bin too so that people can separate the litter they find. Recep-

tion Class managed to collect the most bags of rubbish which means that the children have now won a

trip to Suez Recycling Centre in Bodmin next term!

A huge thank you to Faye and Paulo Clifton for inspiring and organizing the event and to Suez who pro-

vided the bins, the gloves, the prize and two fantastic workshops for Y4 and Y5. Thank you!

Book Review Winners

On Friday last week the winners of the World Book Day book review competi-

tion got their prize of a trip to Waterstones to choose their own books. The

children spent a long time making the tricky decisions and were thrilled to

have so much choice. Once again, it’s brilliant to see Perranporth’s children

so fired up about reading!

Whilst visiting our school, Suez let us know of a great compe-

tition that children can take part in over Easter. The competi-

tion is to design and make a bird house or insect feeder from

reused or recycled materials. The best designs that encour-

age and support wildlife will be displayed on the footpath

around Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre. Children will also

win book tokens and book tokens for their school. If you’d

like to take part, all you need to do is design and make your bird house and then

email or Dojo a named picture of it to your child’s teacher. The closing date is Fri 11th May.

Year 2 SATs Meeting

On Tuesday 17th April Mrs Laity is inviting parents from Penhaligon Class (Y2) to a meeting to find

out more about the Key Stage 1 SATs Assessments and what they mean for your child. There will

be two sessions, 3.30pm and 5.00pm. We will also be running a crèche in Year 1 at the earlier

meeting for any younger siblings whilst parents attend the meeting.

Spelling Bee Winners!

This week Perranporth sent a team of keen spellers to the

Newquay Schools Spelling Bee. The competition was fierce

with lots of extremely challenging words such as

‘amphibian’ and ‘syntax’! Perranporth’s team gave a simp-

ly incredible performance and managed to win the entire competition

without making a single mistake! Wow! A huge well done Noah, Matthew

and Gwen our spectacular spellers!

Sport Relief

Last Friday we came into school in our sporty clothing in aid of Sport Relief. The children in

KS2 took part in our ‘run a mile’ event throughout the day with many children going above

and beyond by running several miles around the school field! Children in KS1 took part in lots

of different sporting activities in aid of this very worthy cause and Reception Class did spon-

sored circuits too. We’re extremely impressed by the children’s brilliant efforts for Sport Relief and

would like to thank you all for your extremely kind donations, we managed to raise well over £300!

The Loudest Shout

Our school choir has been invited to represent the school at the following

performance:

Saturday 21st April 2018 - we are delighted to have been invited to partici-

pate in The Little Shout (Singing Schools Project), a part of The Loudest Shout,

a three day festival of sea songs and shanties which is being held on Satur-

day 21st April 2018 at The Tywarnhayle Inn, Perranporth from 2:30pm. Please

can the children arrive at 2:15pm to ensure we are all ready for the 2:30pm

start. Parents will need to remain at the venue throughout the performance,

which will last no longer than 30 minutes, and there will be soft drinks provid-

ed for the children afterwards.

The children have been busy rehearsing the songs and we hope that plenty

of parents, carers and families will come and listen.

Class Photographs

Class and sports teams photographs are being taken on Friday 20th April.

Easter Break

We hope you all have an ‘eggcellent’ Easter Break! We will see you back

in school on Monday 16th April when we will be welcoming Mrs Jones to

our Year 3 teaching team!
