It’s hard to understand how fast the year goes by. In five weeks Barbara and I leave for camp. It’s eight weeks until session one. This summer holds an incredible storehouse of new things. We will open the rebuilt canteen, the new game room is on the scene and the new tennis courts will be open for use. The Broadway show for the summer is “Newsies.” Tickets are available. Just give Errick a call at 954-346-7455. This is the year for our new program, Broadway & Beyond, and the London Trip is on the schedule. Lots to think about.I’ve been hearing from many of you with all kinds of requests. Keep those emails and phone calls coming. I enjoy hearing from you. Soon, very soon,

we’ll be back at camp. Ron & Barbara

Fondly,

C am p e r & St af f Ne wsBe t h Ba c k s t ag eWe are so excited for the summer of 2012 - the staff is better than ever. With many returnees, including a few returning from a year or two off, the 2012 staff is sure to excite with both familiar and new exciting programming.

The theater schedule is shaping up nicely and a performance date schedule will be posted in next month’s newsletter. I’m very excited about next summer’s show selections, as we are including several French Woods premiers including; Legally Blond, White Christmas, Virtually Me, Forever Scrooged, Go Go Beach and Catch Me If You Can.

See you soon!

As many of you know, French Woods will be taking select campers to the Broadway’s show, Newsies, during the third session of the 2012 summer season.

Spots are still available for the trip. Please call the Camp Office for further details!

There are now 70 days left until session 1, 2012. We are on our way up to camp on May 6th and will open the office at camp on May 8th. We can’t wait.

When a child goes off to camp for the first time, everyone in the family grows from the experience, not just

your courageous camper!

You already know that camp presents a tremendous opportunity for your child to widen their horizons, make new and lasting friends and discover new strengths. The true payoff of camp will be apparent when your child comes home more self-reliant, self-sufficient and self-confident. What a gift to give your child.

So take comfort in knowing your child is about to enter a safe place that will help him or her widen their horizons, develop greater coping skills and become more resilient—just as it will you.

Fourth Session Shows 2012!Dear Edwina Follow the adventures of advice-giver extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple as she directs the kids in the neighborhood in production number after hilarious production number in her “Advice- A-Palooza” extravaganza. Written in the style of Schoolhouse Rock Live! and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Dear Edwina Junior is the perfect girl power musical for 7 to 9 year olds by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich.

Willy Wonka Willy Wonka, for years a recluse in his factory, announces that five lucky people will be given a tour of the factory, shown all the secrets of his amazing candy, and one will win a lifetime supply of Wonka chocolate. Charlie, along with four somewhat odious other children, get the chance of a lifetime and a tour of the factory. Along the way, mild disasters befall each of the odious children, but can Charlie beat the odds? Willy Wonka is a delight for children from 7 to 9 years old.

Anastasia The only surviving child of the Russian Royal Family hooks up with two con-men while the undead Rasputin seeks her death. This is a thrilling show for 9 to 11 year olds.

Tarzan Orphaned as a baby and adopted by gorillas, Tarzan meets Jane Porter and both of their lives change forever. Tarzan is a fun musical for 9 to 11 year olds.

Godspell One of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time, GODSPELL is based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew. The show, which is not built on a traditional plot, utilizes

clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics, and vaudeville to tell the story of Christ. Godspell will be performed by 11 to 14 year olds.

Star Child Based on stories of Oscar Wilde and written by Josh Freilich with Sarah Underwood on lyrics and Jenny Stafford on book, it premiers at French Woods with a cast of 11 to 14 year olds.

Go Go Beach A musical fable about the shift of consciousness in America in the mid-sixties, it is told in the style of the popular California beach party movies. It’s a coming-of-age story about a surfer who gets into trouble with his girlfriend when he falls for a runaway teen pop star and his relationship with a flower child who helps him find the true meaning of love. Go Go Beach will be performed by 11 to 14 year olds.

George M This all-singing, all-dancing musical spectacular portrays the rags to riches legend of George M. Cohan: his life, career as a director, performer, writer and composer, loves and songs. George M will be performed by 11 to 14 year olds.

Catch Me If You Can A musical with a libretto by Terrence McNally and a theatrical score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, it follows the story of con artist Frank Abagnale, Jr. A majority of the plot is borrowed from the 2002 film of the same name that was based on Abagnale’s 1980 autobiography. Catch Me If You Can will be performed by 11-17 year olds.

Greenwood Greenwood is an original musical comedy about recapturing the vitality of lost youth. It tells the story of three characters—Alex, Zoe and Sheila—and follows their journey in two

timeframes: during their young teens, and a quarter-century later, in the present day. The title comes from the name of the summer camp where the three protagonists first met—a very special place where magic is not of the supernatural variety, but, rather, comes from the power of acceptance, creative freedom, and love. Greenwood was written and produced by a team of former French Woods campers and will be performed by 11-17 year olds.

Funny Girl A Musical about the life of comedienne Fannie Brice, one of the most impressive stage talents of Broadway’s heyday in the 1920s. Brice was no great beauty, but she was a wonderful comedienne and used her wit and upbringing to make audiences love her. A fantastic musical for 11 to 17 year olds.

Annie A show that needs little explanation, Annie is a fiery young orphan girl who must live in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Her seemingly hopeless situation changes dramatically when she is selected to spend a short time at the residence of the wealthy Oliver Warbucks. Quickly, she charms the hearts of the household staff and even the seemingly cold-hearted Warbucks cannot help but learn to love this wonderful girl. He de- cides to help Annie find her long lost parents by offering a reward if they would come to him and prove their identity and chaos ensues. It’s a surefire hit for ages 11-14.

Farenheight 451 In Ray Bradbury’s classic, frightening vision of the future, firemen don’t put out fires, they start them in order to burn books. Bradbury’s vividly painted society holds up the appearance of happiness as the highest goal--a place where

trivial information is good, and knowledge and ideas are bad. After years of working as a fireman, one who burns books and enjoys his work, Guy Montag meets a young girl who makes him question his profession and the values of the society in which he lives. This is a play for 11 to 17 year olds.

The Merry Wives of Windsor A Shakespearean comedy, Falstaff arrives in Windsor very short on money. He decides to obtain financial advantage by courting two wealthy married women, Mistress Ford and Mistress Page. Falstaff decides to send the women identical love letters, and asks his servants, Pistol and Nym, to deliver them to the wives. When they refuse, Falstaff sacks them and in revenge the men tell Ford and Page (the husbands) of Falstaff’s intentions. Page is not concerned, but the jealous Ford persuades the Host of the Garter to introduce him to Falstaff as a ‘Master Brook’ so that he can find out Falstaff’s plans. Meanwhile, 3 men are trying to win the hand of Page’s daughter. This is a play that will be performed by 11 to 17 year olds.

Our Town Our Town is a three-act play by American playwright Thornton Wilder. It is a character story about an average town’s citizens in the early twentieth century as depicted through their everyday lives. Using metatheatrical devices, Wilder sets the play in a 1930s theater. He uses the actions of the Stage Manager to create the town of Grover’s Corners for the audience. Scenes from its history between the years of 1901 and 1913 play out. Our Town will be performed by 11 to 17 year olds.
