After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place; and to them he said, `You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing; and he said to them, `Why do you stand here idle all day?' They said to him, `Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, `You go into the vineyard too.' And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, `Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.' And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a

denarius. And on receiving it they grumbled at the householder, saying, `These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' ! !!!FROM THE RECTOR’S NOTEBOOK !Greetings: The past week has certainly been hectic with its usual round of parochial duties, responding to queries, hospital visitations, diocesan meetings, and ensuring that I download the newest operating system (IOS 8) to my mobile devices. !According to Stuart Fox in an article entitled “Technology changing the way we practice religion”, the modern advances in communications technology have almost instigated rapid and profound changes in religious practice. !

Both in our Diocese and across the world bishops, priests, monks, nuns and millions of lay persons recite the daily office from their iPads, iPhones and other mobile devices. !Fox states Already, hundreds of iPhone apps allow persons to bring Bible quotes, Torah-chanting practice and Buddhist prayer wheels wherever they go, allowing them to practice their religions in new times and spaces. !Here in our parish some persons already receive the weekend bulletin on their mobile devices and can be seen at times participating in the sacred liturgy with these devices in hand. !Our parish bulletin is posted every Saturday to the parish’s Facebook and Twitter pages. !Quite recently we were informed that the hymns in the CPWI hymnal have been uploaded to the Diocesan Intranet. The Synod Council has of course agreed that when hymns are used, the name of the author should also be included. !A forward looking church will see the Book of Common Prayer and CPWI hymnal being available in electronic format for purchase to mobile devices from the iTunes store, Amazon or google play. !There is the strong body of opinion that the Internet and mobile technology can be used to the advantage of the church in getting the message of Jesus Christ across to as large a cross section of the population as possible. !This ancient Christian religion has sen many changes in the world of science and technology over the past two thousand years. According to Alvin Toffler the most rapid of those changes have occurred over the past twenty-five to thirty years.
